  1. Looking like a water pump issue as I can see a small amount of pink coolant around the water pump, this would possibly cause the curry type smell as the coolant burns off. We dont have a big issue having to top the radiator up, once every few weeks or so I may need to put a cup or so back in but there is a small dampish area around the water pump where the pink water coolant is showing so Im hoping this is all it is. Someone suggested the catalytic convertor which kind of put the fear of god into me, ie expensive
  2. The Lexus IS200 has a strong curry type smell from the engine after it warms up it smells like its coming from the radiator but its that strong it may not be, any idea what this could be please the car is a w reg 2000yr with jst over 100k
  3. Fan belt - I guess they mean timing belt? That should only be done at 100k miles. It states in the book DRIVE BELTS Which when you speak to Lexus UK they state that this means the FAN Belt Not the Timing belt/cam belt. My 60000 on an IIS200 service quote was £671 at Lexus Bristol £300+ on top of the £671 if I wanted them to also do the cam belt. I called Lexus uk to ask about the initail £671 and they said they would get Lexus Bristol to call me back to explain there pricing, which they had already done. Anyway sure enough within 5 mins lexus bristol called me, I told them not to worry, they then said theyve managed to apply some discount and the price is now £491. Sounds strange and unbelievable I know but that is fact, what lexus uk told them Ive no idea.
  4. I live in Swindon Wiltshire on the M4 corridor, and last week I rang Lexus Swindon up for a quote on the 40k major service on an IS200se Auto, and was quoted £485 inc vat which of course I nearly had a heart attack over. I then rang Lexus Bristol 35 miles away down the road & was quoted £340, Has anyone else had any lower quotes from a lexus dealership than £340 for a major 40k service, it seems an unbelievable differance to be able to warrant £145 between the two dealerships. I appreciate that they are all independant etc and can within reason charge what they feel you/me will pay but has anyone else had similar huge differances in major services between lexus dealerships.
  5. No way £500 thats unbelievable, and there was me popping into halfords for a Haines manual expecting to pay about £20. They know what they can do with their £500..... :tsktsk:
  6. Nice one. Thanks for the extremely quick replies, I only posted last night & never expected any replies for a couple of days. I'll give it a bash tomorrow after work, as its bugging me, as its one of those things that nobody notices except yourself because you own it. By the way I only bought the car just over a week ago first Lexus Ive ever owned & I'm amazed at just how many people comment on it, & the exclusive brand name of lexus even had a couple of teenage girls with there dad asking if they can stand next to it & have there photo taken with there camera phone. Only trouble is everybody seems to think I'm loaded now. Are there any manuals for the IS200 as I went to Halfords etc & could'nt find any. Again thanks for all your comments. Roy
  7. Can anyone tell me how to remove the front fog lights on a W reg IS200SE as one of them has condensation in. The book states to undo the inner 2 bolts & prize the light out, yet when you manage to squeeze your head in behind the front wheel & look through one of the small slits in the rear of the lower skirt spoiler there appears to be a plastic clip holding the fog light in at the rear. This clip is near impossible to release even after undoing a few of the retaining screws on the skirt/spoiler. Surely you dont need to take the spoiler off completely simply to clean the inside of the fog light. Ive removed both retaining bolts & pushed n pulled & tried to squeeze a screw driver into release the apparent clip holding the fog light in all with out any success. Any suggestions greatly appreciated
