  1. That doesn't sound right. That rear parcel one is the subwoofer, and when turned up high can even rattle the shelf.
  2. Well I've been looking to jump ship, so have been looking at a few competitors. Liked the deals, and test drove an Ioniq 5. Not bad for a Hyundai effort. Not the high quality materials in Lexus, but I suspect most of the price goes to that 77kWh battery. Then I found this ( I know how to pick em, eh?) 🤦‍♂️ https://www.mylondon.news/news/motoring/motoring-news/owners-say-50000-electric-vehicles-27948765
  3. I got quite a different response to my recent letter, in which I cite our forum members, despite having secondary protective measures, still being targeted along with the financial fallout. That many of them have moved on to other manufacturers. I posed the question "are you developing a fix for the ES, or should I move on too?" The response included the below: "...we are looking into development of protective measures to protect our models, however we do not yet have any details to share on this for the moment that we can release publicly" What do you make of that in writing? He continues with: "Regrettably at this time we do not have any direct products or specific measures that we can offer for you in additional protection for the Lexus ES model"
  4. You may be safe. Lexus quietly encrypted their canbus from MY23 forward. The problem in that last statement is the word quietly. Which means you may still be targeted, with a £5600 repair bill as above. Without a loud recall immunizing all non encrypted cars, I see no end to this. Collective action is the only way I see to force lexus' hands.
  5. Not an adequate solution, just a delay. They're also only doing it for the RX, all other lexus products of the same years are just as vulnerable. Head over to the ES subforum and read through the thefts, and attempted thefts. Lexus has dropped the ball badly on this one. It will cost them reputation and sales.
  6. If it's a specific location you're struggling in, don't forget to consider local/non-car solutions like a motion floodlight in your drive.
  7. They weren't suggesting it isn't a good fix, they came right out and said it. It is effective in South Africa because it was tackling the different problem of carjackings. Those are very time sensitive and adding a couple of minutes is enough to scare the perpetrators off, have police on scene, people helping...etc. Add a couple of minutes to a thief in the middle of the night is neither here nor there. No sadly the current plates are not compatible with the ES, I would have tried them if they were. As mentioned by David another layer, but not a real fix when they only delay.
  8. FYI the plate was developed to tackle car jacking in south africa. It's a delay device, no more. Sorry to rain on the parade but long term it's not a solution that will stick I'm afraid. I pushed for a trial install on my ES, before i learned of the above, was told not to bother by a lexus employee in the know who explained what the plate is and clued me in to the above information. Exceedingly disappointed by lexus at the moment.
  9. Maybe it depends on the region, but I doubt any region would have no penalty. Here's for the northwest it's now a 3.02p/kWh penalty, and the benefit is down to 18p/kWh difference: GO: Night rate (00:30 - 04:30): 9p / kWh Day rate (04:30 - 00:30): 30.23p / kWh Standing charge: 49.77p / day Flexible (aka standard variable): Electricity Unit rate:27.21 p/kWh Standing charge:49.77 p/day
  10. The standing charge does also increase by about 1.5 pounds a month, 5p a day. Factored into my calculation above.
  11. Your need to charge at least 75Kwh a month just to break even on the heightened day tariff. That's about 260 miles of electric only driving at 3.5 miles per Kwh. Don't forget you also need to charge at certain times to get the cheap rates, so may at times be inconvenient. That calculation is based on a 20p saving per Kwh for charging and a 5p penalty for the rest of the time and a 300Kwh monthly home usage.
  12. Seems they're moving north, outside of the m25 ring. Where did this happen?
  13. As above, looking for a competent detailer to take out scratches, swirls and holograms. Picked up a Honda e demonstrator for the better half, 22 reg, less than 2k miles. Sadly the dealer's washing practices are as expected. Add to that they had stick on decals on the doors and they rotary polished after taking them off. Results again as expected, second the sun hits it = holograms galore. Took out most of the larger scratches by hand, but I'm missing my DA polisher and stamina. Holograms are not going to come out easily by hand. I'm not 25 anymore. Would appreciate the forum's wisdom. Please include price. Thank you.
  14. Honda e Interior quality very high. Range not so much.
  15. I also got confirmation that the ES from MY23 forward also have had the vulnerability addressed.
  16. Noticeable, yes. Annoying, not really. Although, on the motorway I tend to have the blind drawn and that eliminates it.
  17. 50L is correct. Zero range is nannying overprotetion that all car manufacturers are doing to make sure you don't run out.
  18. Don't forget your green insurance card. While not strictly necessary in the EU. Gov.uk stipulates you may be asked for it at the border. See: https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/driving-abroad
  19. Yes the new RX and NX platforms are on an encrypted, dealer said scrambled, CANBUS.
  20. Sadly, bad all around, and you likely have the upgraded encrypted CANBUS. Was told by my dealer past MY21, it was scrambled. He's sure the new RX and NX are on the new encrypted system, he's asking about whether our ESs were also upgraded in/past MY21, or just with the facelift, if even that. Will report back what he learns. I'm dreading next year's renewal. If this continues I'm thinking of trading in for something less desirable to thieves.
  21. Steve's right https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/accident-assist
  22. Boy am I glad I have set the ignore algorithm to automatic. It detects anyone who hasn't driven the car for more than 10 minutes and automatically ignores them when they're trying to explain how the thing drives what mpg it gets and how cheap and nasty the plastics are long term. No wait I did that manually. One can dream of these functions though 😁
  23. Read the same. I think they have their numbers wrong. Just looked up 2022 operating profits for several insurance companies. Aviva 300ish mil AA churchill LV ALL 50ish mil each. Find it hard to believe they're running at a loss.
  24. Do me a favour please. On the day could you please bug them on my behalf about other lexus vehicles, namely the ES, since we're being targeted too.
  25. I think he meant the level was a little high after the service (a bit too much put back in, or not allowed to fully drain). If on the other hand, it was at a normal level after the service and then later on it raised due to fuel contamination, then yes that would be of concern.
