  1. The general advice is to not reveal that you have it installed. I guess the idea is to have the potential thief stumble and panic, instead of prepare and go looking for it in the usual place they are usually installed. I had an S5 tracker installed alongside mine last year. I know it won’t stop the attempt in theft but I feel better knowing that I can always track it at least.
  2. I had been with LV for 4 years, and in January the renewal came with 80% increase and with notice that it will not automatically renew unless I call and speak with them first. I ended up moving to Marshmallow, but the increase this year has still been 60% on last year. Friends and colleagues are also seeing increases but no one has yet to match the 60% increase that my RX has received this year and the difference must be the increase in thefts (via the canbus weakness). How many more increases can Lexus owners afford before they start to change, and/or how soon before the cars become uninsurable? Is a permanent fix even in the works for the canbus weakness yet (the plates are a delay)? Based from Lexus UK interaction, the plates are it and the issue is resolved.
  3. I am selling my GromAudio LEX89VL2 kit purchased for my Lexus RX 450h 2018 and is being barely used, hence selling. I thought I would open up to offers from the Lexus Owners Forums members before going to eBay. DM me an offer and if local, I can also help you install it.
  4. I thought the exact same thing when I received their email.
  5. @herbie you beat me to it. Lexus replies to my email with the same template as well. Today I had an S5 tracker and immobiliser fitted as I wasn’t comfortable with the car being so vulnerable. When the plate becomes available I will have my dealer installed it for extra protection but I am not too worried now. edit: forgot to mention. The installer of the tracker and immobiliser told me that he has been installing lots of these on Lexus RXs and NXs and he was aware of the canbus hack.
  6. Hello fellow Lexus owners. After a phone call with my Lexus dealer and after I was advised that the only way to protect myself from the car theft was to upgrade to a new model, I decided to email BBC Crimewatch Live. here is my email to them. “ Dear crimewatch team, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to you in the hope to bring up to your attention a recent spike in car thefts using a new method using canbus hacking. A YouTube video of one such example is below. Toyota and Lexus cars seem to be the most vulnerable due to the fact that their canbus network is not encrypted their headlights are connected via canbus straight to the cars main computer and access to the wiring on the front headlights being easily accessible by prying open the bumper by the wheel arch. This vulnerability is being used so much that Lexus models are now near the top of the list on the most stolen cars in the UK as it can be seen on the Telegraph article below. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/05/23/most-stolen-cars-foi-reveal-dvla-thefts-jump/#:~:text=Land Rover has topped the, hundred Land Rovers was stolen. Toyota/Lexus have been informed and have known for a while that this is an issue but so far they have failed to carry out any action to help their customers. From my personal experience when calling my Lexus dealer, their suggesting is to upgrade to the latest model and have suggested that Lexus can not fix the issue once the car has been sold. I disagree with their reply and I am sure that Toyota/Lexus would not like to treat their customers this way but I feel that the only way to get any official response from them would be via media coverage. Myself and other Lexus owners at the Lexus Owners Club forum would really appreciate your help in getting the necessary attention by Toyota/Lexus and hopefully stopping car thefts in the process. https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/140710-attempted-theft-of-my-rx450h-2020/?&page=6#comments I look forward to your help and response. Kind Regards, “
  7. @Herbie Wow Herbie, congratulations for going all the way with this and for the first impressions video. Any more updates since the first impressions video? Is the “Snap to” feature available ? From the first impression video it is not clear? Any issues with the controls being unavailable at first car switch on until you switch over input with the Media button?
  8. @Herbie Yeah, I tried to do the same with mine and I couldn't get the side off either.I believe that in order to remove the side panels you need to completely remove the top section. I gave up when I tried it as I thought the cables were not long enough to reach at there. Have you tried to test fit them there first? I did however run two USB cables as an extension to the rear of that console using cable pull rods. You can find these at screwfix and you can try to pull them one by one using that method. Oh, and regarding the switch for the power, I didn't want to damage the kit just in case I had to call on the warranty or in case I ran into any issues ;-). In the driver footwell I was able to get to it without too much problem, I just had to use some hand gymnasitcs :-D.
  9. @Herbie Can you upload a video of the "snap on" movements in Apple Car play please? I might pull the trigger and buy this again if they have resolved the issue with the controls not being available in the Lexus UI at start up and if the snap on feature is now available. Out of curiosity, where did you locate the unit itself? When I installed mine I had it on the drivers side footwell.
  10. Hi Herbie, I had Vline 2 installed about 2 months ago for about 2 weeks on my RX 450h 2018. The reason why I ended up removing was an issue with the mouse/trackpad not being available on first start ( most start ups) until you switched screens via the Menu button and back again. As far as I know, they were working on solution for it but I couldn’t wait until that became available and having to put up with the intermittent nature of will the trackpad work or not and especially if you already started driving and having to chase for the Menu button to do the switching. The other reasons why I didn’t want to wait for the fixes was the way that the trackpad worked within the interface. In the Lexus ui, the trackpad can jump to the nearest button, making selections while driving easy. In the Vline ui, the trackpad is a mouse and as such, it’s not easy to control the UI while driving. Imagine having to use the keyboard on maps with a mouse while driving… The positive of Vline is that they have a good customer service and I would give it a go again if those two issues are resolved. hope this helps.
