  1. Yes, my excess was increased too. Believe me our bungalow, even though we live in a decent area, is well covered by security devices and a full alarm system -just in case. I’m not one for tempting fate and enjoy having peace of mind. One never knows…
  2. They’re even at it with my home insurance cover, who sent me an email, crying poverty because they are having to increase the rates this year. I’ve not made a claim for many years and yet they have increased this year’s premium by almost a third. Needless to say, I found a company on Compare the Market who have quoted me less than a third of this year’s quote. So, I’m back to where it should have been before the ridiculous increased quote. I’m currently with Toyota Insurance for my car, which went up significantly last August from my first year with them, but that said, they were still the least expensive on the market. I’m expecting it to rocket this year though. My car tax is going up by 100% this year, from a tenner a year to twenty quid. Think we are all in the same boat here. I’ve been saving up hard since I found out about the increase from the Chancellor, whoever that was at the time. There’ll be another one coming along soon to screw us. Happy days, not.
  3. Thanks! They had no way of getting away with it as the warning sign was on my screen and it was pointed out to me by the only member of staff, who simply apologised. I’d no idea how much it was going to cost at the time; but I soon did.
  4. Right…the director of the wheel refurbishing business, examined with me the broken TPMS and in fairness to him, I had to agree that the batteries in the part are not made to last forever 7-10 years. So, I pointed me in the direction of a company he uses and offered to pay for them to supply and fit a replacement TPMS which would be a clone from the existing TPMS. The job was completed this morning to my satisfaction. The wheel refurbishing people have footed the bill. After fitting the part, the warning light on my dash went off almost immediately. So, all sorted now. The technician has held onto the original part, because he told me that they never put them back inside the customers car as the part can interfere with the new TPMS. Not something I’ve ever thought about. Strange, but true. He told me that should the cloning method ever be required again, it will have to be done from the original part. A member of my family will pick it up in his car to avoid any problems. He added that the cloning method has become far less expensive than replacing an original sensor, which can vary in cost. As long as it works for the for a few years, I’ll be happy. Thanks for all replies and interest.
  5. Thanks! Quote from Lexus before they closed for the day £181. The work on the wheels to refurbish, total £168. 00
  6. I shall find out when I go back in the morning. Will report on here the results of my complaints. Thanks. Much appreciated comments. I’m not going to allow them to get away with it. I don’t think the lass on the reception has any idea of the replacement part, she will do in the morning as will the proprietor of the business. She was the only person on site when I collected my car. Perhaps the proprietor had disappeared on purpose as she stipulated that my car would be ready at 4:15, maybe giving her boss the opportunity to disappear.
  7. Cheers! I had a look at a video, which shows how these things are replaced. It’s actually very easy for a competent tyre fitter, although it does have to be recoded via the necessary technology device. The fellow who installs the replacement TPMS, does say that batteries in them usually need replacing every 6/7 years. Be that as it may, my car has only achieved 41k miles- although it is now ten years old. Doesn’t look it, nor drive like a ten year old car, I must say.
  8. Evening all, I had some surface damage on two of my alloys, so I took it to an alloy wheel repair company and the two wheels were treated and resprayed. I called in this afternoon to collect my car and pay for the work. The lass on the reception apologised and handed to me a broken tyre pressure monitor. She explained that the guy who did the job broke it when trying to get the tyre off. I paid for the work and drove home, expecting the part to be a reasonable price. Well it isn’t. It’s £181 to supply/fit and recode at my local Lexus. I shall return to the workshop in the morning to see if I can get them to pay for the damaged part. I’m not holding out much hope, especially these days The repair to the alloys with vat was less than the replacement valve. It was pouring with rain when I collected my car and only when I arrived home did I notice that the two Lexus dust cap OE parts have been replaced with black, plastic dust caps. The Lexus dust caps don’t come cheap either. I had a job done there a few years ago, when I had all four alloys on a BMW repaired and a good job was done then. I don’t know what went wrong today. The girl on the reception thought it was a weakened with age part. Needless to say, I’m not very happy.
  9. I purchased an SD card from these people, sometime during the summer for 2022/2023. It updated very easy, unfortunately it stopped indicating that I was driving towards a Road Safety Camera. So, i reinstalled the info from my original SD card and the system is back to normal. That said, since early this year, there are the new 20 MPH speed limit roads everywhere locally. The card I was sent doesn’t have any details of the recent speed limit changes loaded into it. So, I’d suggest you check with satnavishop first. They reply to all messages. Good luck!
  10. Thanks for that. Perhaps it does need replacing, so for a fiver I shall give it a try.
  11. Does anybody else have problems with the rubber cover that protects the parking brake? I regularly have to keep putting it back on the brake pedal as the pressure from my foot keeps releasing it. It’s no big deal, but thought I’d ask.
  12. I’ve mentioned elsewhere on a thread (that I started) that this afternoon I decided to remove the micro sd update card and replace it with the old sd card as the new card wasn’t warning me in advance of the road safety cameras, although it was working in respect of the camera near to where I live. But not others. It had been working until recently when it stopped The road safety camera alerts and the ANPR alerts are functioning correctly as previously. So, if you do decide to buy from the satnavishop the £35 update, I’d be interested in knowing if you are still getting the alerts. Cheers!
  13. It sure is. Maybe if I use the Lexus update system which will cost me far more than the £35 I paid to the satnavishop, I might get the updates with the safety camera warnings. But I don’t think I will take the risk. Cheers!
  14. I decided today to replace the recently installed sd update card, which was cheap enough at £35, and replaced it with the card which came with the car and believe it or not it is operating correctly again, even alerts when I am approaching ANPR cameras. Doesn't explain why the new card was functioning correctly until I had the car recently serviced and why it actually works when approaching the nearest camera closest to my home but not others. I shall continue to keep the sat nav operating under the original system. Maybe if I venture far and need to be aware of new road layouts and changes in road speeds I might swap to the new version. Anyway, I have solved the mystery. Cheers!
  15. Imagine them trying to introduce that here, the underwriters and the brokers would be lobbying the politicians and palms would be more than greased. Like you say, we are being exploited in this country.
  16. Just my opinion, but I feel that there’s a need for motor insurance costs to be fairly regulated. Last year, Toyota charged me £425. This year it was £572. Admittedly I had a new windscreen fitted, but it was still a big increase to my current premium.
  17. Well, whatever speed zone you are driving in, the speed will always show on your screen, marrying up with the advance speed warning. It’s just standard. If it’s not showing up on your sat nav screen when you are driving, I’d be very surprised. If it’s not, I’m afraid I can’t help you.
  18. I bought mine from the same dealer a few months ago. The first card never worked so I returned it and satnavishop replaced it. The replacement card did the updates easily. The speed camera alerts were working correctly too. Only had a problem since I had the car serviced last week, as highlighted in my other recent topic. I’m not blaming the service people as it was mentioned to me by their service manager that their technician would have no reason to update the sat nav system. I can’t see my problem being related to the new updates as it’s been working properly until last week. For £35 it seemed a good buy compared to Lexus prices. The update is for 2022/2023, but it doesn’t show the 20 MPH zones which are popping up all over the place recently. Those zones are still showing up as 30 MPH.
  19. I never noticed, I have to be careful looking down at the system as there were lots of traffic and hazards not too far from us. I’ve just been to visit our son and the local camera was bonged but every other camera I past including ANPR cameras never caused the alert to sound. I’ve arrived home and have set the sat nav volume up to seven. I shall check it again tomorrow. Thanks for all your efforts to help. Cheers!
  20. Thanks, mine is the premium system. I decided to see if the guy who had been attempting to sort out the problem had done something to make it work. Well, I was delighted when I got the warning bleeps coming towards the first road safety camera, but after that, nothing when I approached another camera and nothing from the two ANPR cameras along a two mile stretch. Will take look at the info you have indicated to.
  21. I’m with you…will try looking at the voice settings. Odd though that nowhere can I find in both the manuals that I have, where it mentions a warning sound will be given when approaching road safety cameras.
  22. Thanks again. Plenty of those cameras around here and even a couple of ANPR cameras. Cheers!
  23. Well, I’m astonished, because if I’ve read what you say about it working when instructions are being given, mine works without being given directions. I do have the maps displayed on the screen though.
  24. Great and thanks. Apparently the lead technician has been dealing with this model since production. I would have thought he’d know that the car has a warning in its system.
  25. I’ve had my Lexus two years this very month. One of the things I noticed when first using it was a bonging sound and only realised when I went passed a few speed cameras that it related to the cameras and I was given a warning. Great piece of equipment, I thought, and then last week after its annual (Lexus) service, it has stopped working. Thinking that a technician might have turned it off, I contacted them. This afternoon the service manager called and spent a while going through the settings to locate the problem, but couldn’t even find the means of turning it on or off. He eventually tried a factory reset, with no joy. Subsequently he spoke to their lead technician who told him that the series I have, never had the facility. Well, I know that neither me or the wife are going mad, but it definitely had the technology and was working properly. It even notified me when I was approaching any ANPR cameras. A few months ago I updated the satellite navigation system from an independent source. The update was successful and the speed camera warning alert continued to work. I have both owner manuals for the car and have spent hours trying to find reference to the technology and it’s definitely not on any of the pages. The service manager tells me that he will go back to the workshop and will download everything that my car came equipped with. Until he comes back to me, this is definitely a mystery. Be interested to read the views of any of you folks. Thanks in advance all.
