Hold metal part of key.
Touch key to door or door frame.
Static will arc from the key to the frame, she'll hardly notice it compared to when it arcs from her fingers!
Any news on these mats? I'm interested in a set of black, carpetty ones for my GS, too. How much are they inc. VAT, discount and delivery?
(and when's my logo going to arrive? Stickers and card came through the post today...)
Ah, but they won't run on 12 volts, will they?
The one I knocked up is based on the Maplin Timing Strobe kit - would normally generate about 350 volts DC to drive the flash tube, except that I used a 6 volt transformer instead of 12 volt and tweaked the design, so the output voltage is 500 volts AC! Got a belt off it when I was testing it, too - nasty piece of kit. :D
But if you keep your keys (or better still a bunch of old keys) on a hook in the hallway that's wired to that 10kV neon sign transformer, things could get interesting... ...would bring a whole new meaning to the term "light fingered"!
You could even leave an old carbon-fibre fishing rod "just resting" against the outside drainpipe for them to use - much better than those tacky bamboo poles :winky:
Appears a good price, but the fitting seems a little excessive. It's almost 3 times the price of the unit

This week's Sesame Street has been brought to you by the letters D, I and Y :winky:
DIY also means you can fit it the way YOU want it, and the thieves won't know what to expect. For example, if anyone broke into my old D-reg Corolla, when going under the bonnet to rip out the alarm they wouldn't have expected the bonnet release handle to be carrying 500 volts! (I enjoyed building and installing that one and still have the power unit!)
Wish I could afford a Lexus hybrid - would bring a whole new meaning to the term "immobiliser"!
Why not put a relay across the gearbox "park/neutral" contacts? If the car thinks it's in gear, it's not going to start (and if you had a Mk.2 it wouldn't let you have the keys back either!)
I was going to ask "How about filling in some of the "gaps" in the Lexus dealer list?"...
Then I knocked up the list and realised that there are currently 53 dealers in the list!
31 give a discount.
So instead, I'll just suggest Lexus Cardiff (I was hoping they were already on the list, that's why I signed up).
As far as I can tell, so far we have:-
removed.
worth thinking about the prolex fingerprint immobiliser

I wouldn't want thieves trying to hack my finger off in order to steal the car! :shutit:
Just did a search on Google for "transponder immobiliser" and came up with the Microscan MI600. As long as you keep the transponder in your wallet or coat pocket your bunch of keys would be useless.
I then searched for "immobiliser gsm". Eventually found the AutoCate 800 GSM paging system - immobilise your car just by sending it a text message. Mmmm... nice!
Also came across this little beauty: the Autowatch 68Hi anti-hijack immobiliser.
Of course this is of no help to Ally - I hope it all works out well for you mate. Hopefully:-
Car will be retrieved in immaculate condition, or the insurance company will shell out full market value and you'll get one as good, or better, than the one that was nicked
Thieves get caught, the police handcuff them in a cell, let you in with pipe wrench in hand for five minutes of "stress relief"
Thieves eventually get 3-5 years
Unfortunately Carlsberg don't run a police force. But if they did, it would probably be the best police force in the world.
I use the GeoVision GV250 card from Y3K. Motion detect mode, 3 cameras, 120GB hard drive = 2 months' CCTV!
On a different note, keep an eye on eBay - thieves really can be that stupid!
If you've still got the tape, have a chat to the cops. They may recognise one of the blurry figures on camera.
Do you rotate tapes? If so, run through the earlier ones, you may catch someone taking more than a passing interest in the car...
Just remember, don't make the mistake Tony Martin did. If you "accidentally" take out an intruder, don't ever, EVER call the cops. In the bag, in the boot, in the bonfire, no worries.
Now, who fancie stealing my GS?
Hunt around, someone here got lower ball joints for £52 each, not sure whether that included VAT.
I got mine from www.lexus-parts.com (Sewell Lexus of Texas). Including carriage, delivery, duty and VAT it came to just under £135 for the pair.
Look at my post titled Cheap Non-lexus Parts for contact info.
Aha! That's nice to know. Mine does it, I thought it might be something nasty and expensive lurking somewhere in the suspension system. If it's only the pads shifting, I'm happy.
So where's the LW430 (station wagon) then? If Lexus made an estate version of the LS it would annoy Jaguar, eh?
Mind you, with the resulting boot space I'm sure LDV would be pretty miffed as well!
I was recommended PlusNet by a mate of mine who works for Costain, several of their ADSL links are PlusNet ones.
I'm now on PlusNet, so are at least 5 of my colleagues in the office. Can't fault it.
I can thoroughly recommend the TomTom Go. Added speedtraps to it, too, instantly rendering my Origin Blue i redundant.
Driving to Weymouth last Wednesday, turned off at Taunton to get a traffic announcement of a crash down the road. Hit the slow traffic, told TomTom there's a roadblock 1km ahead, TomTom rerouted me round the little back roads and back on track again. Fantastic.
