  1. Hi all, I have a Series 2 '98 GS300SE on standard wheels. I've begun to notice a distinct humming/whirring sound from what seems to be underneath and to the back of the car, when I'm at speed. It's at it's worst between 40 and 60MPH, but probably only because wind noise begins to drown it out above that! It seems to be related to wheel speed, not engine speed, and distinctly changes in pitch as I speed up or slow down. It's constant and seems to be getting slightly worse. I should point out that it's not yet that noticeable, but these cars are so quiet that it's starting to bother me. I'm sure it wasn't there a few months back. Things I think it might be are: * Real wheel bearing(s) * Prop shaft bearings * Diff trouble Can anyone offer any suggestions, or has anyone had a similar problem fixed? I'd like to research it a bit before taking it to my main dealer! (Recently had a big service so I doubt fluid/oil levels are to blame) Lemme know! Russ.
  2. You could try this (about a tenner): http://www.keylessride.com/order/programmi...99&model=GS+300 Might be worth it?? Russ.
  3. Hi all, Well, a small bit has torn from the front of the undertray on my series 2 GS300. It's about 6-7 inches across, and has torn maybe 4 inches down (towards the rear), so it's dangling down a bit. Every now and again it makes a terrible vibrating/flapping noise at speed. I guess I should get a replacement, so I have a couple of questions: 1. Would it be OK for me to gaffer-tape it back up or cut the "flap" away? 2. If I were to do this, should I really take it to a garage/somewhere with ramps so I don't crush my head? 3. Anyone know how much it costs for a new GS300 Series 2 ('98) undertray? Any advice would be much appreciated. Taaa, Russ.
  4. Hi folks, Well, it looks like this is a reasonably common problem: I have a '98 Series 2 GS300, and recently I've been having some trouble with the locking on the car. It's one particular door (the near-side rear) that's causing some trouble. When I lock the car, it sometimes doesn't lock. Similarly when I unlock the car, the door will often remain locked. It happens with the "lock all" buttons on the drivers/passengers doors too. You'll hear the thunk of doors locking, then about a second after, you'll hear another, lesser thunk, where the car seems to think that one of the doors hasn't locked properly. The child lock is off. The door is always as locked from the inside as it is from the outside. I'm guessing it's not the remote battery, as the problem occurs from the lock-all buttons within the car. You can lock or unlock the problem door easily using the button on the inside handle. This always works fine, suggesting it's probably not a locking motor problem. What's the diagnosis, do you think? Will I have to shell 300 notes for a central locking computer, or is it worth disconnecting the battery for a bit and resetting the car's brain? Lemme know your thoughts! Russ.
  5. Wow, I'm amazed that there're so many RX-8 fanciers here. Well I sold my Z32 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo to buy the nice dad-car GS300 I have now. My shortlist was: Lexus GS 300 SE Merc E280 Elegance/Avantgarde Audi A6 Honda Accord 2.0 SE Executive Volvo S80 Out of them all, the Merc would have been the other choice. Russ.
  6. Hi Folks, New to this forum so pls be gentle! I have a '98 Series 2 GS300SE, and there's a stain/mark on the cover of the front cup-holders (next to the gear-lever), which I can't seem to get off. It looks like it's coffee or something that's been left to go hard - the damn stuff is like super-glue! No amount of elbow grease will shift it. I've tried vinegar and a bathroom cleaner on it to no avail. I'd like to try something more deadly, but I'm worried about damaging the plastic of the cup-holder cover. Does anyone have any suggestions? Will I melt the cover if I try white spirit or something equally bonkers? Does anyone have any Alien blood? Russ.
  7. Yep, send the pic(s) and instruction to russ@nospam.tui.co.uk (remove "nospam.") and I'll see what I can do Cheers, Russ.
