  1. Yep, the silver square bit! It's deformed out of shape and hence I'll need a new one attached, but I think the black inner workings beneath it are still okay... Any ideas for the cost of just that silver panel?
  2. Hey all, Managed to hit the front bumper on a railing this morning and the left headlamp washer has broken off. Any idea how much these things cost to get fixed by a dealer...?
  3. The keyscratching culture in society today makes me absolutely sick. People can't respect the fact that other people work hard to earn the money they spend, they simply think they have the right to damage what isn't theirs... It's absolutely disgusting and I bet the UK is much worse for it than other countries are. I've no evidence to back that up but I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions. I really do hate the absolute dregs of society that do this kind of stuff!
  4. Hey guys, Have finally purchased my first Lexus! Got a silver 2002 '51 reg IS200 Sport Navigator with 22000 miles on the clock for just under thirteen grand. Had to fly up to Edinburgh to get it but figured it was worth it for the price. Anyway, have been using the DVD sat-nav and had a few questions... Is it normal that the voice directions simply appear to come out the right speaker? I had expected the sat-nav to shut the radio down totally, but it appears to simply stop it in the right speaker..? Also, does anyone else think that the volume levels are set way too low? If you have the window/sunroof open, and music even fairly low, you need the volume all the way up on 7 in my opinion. Secondly, can anyone say whether the newest version has pubs as points of interest? I was quite surprised to find that (to the best of my knowledge), the 2001 CD has 'wineries' as a category, but not pubs?! Lastly, when searching for a point of interest, is it not possible to choose your category, and then say 'find the nearest'? E.g. when searching for a pub, or perhaps a better example, a petrol station, there's no point trying each one individually and seeing how far away it is - can you not find the closest PoI to where you are? Am very pleased with the car on the whole! Many thanks! Peter
  5. Colin - one more question; any info would be much appreciated. You mentioned the IS got facelift in Aug 2001 - aside from the sat-nav and controller, was anything else changed in the interior? Thanks a lot!
  6. Thanks for the updates - glad that the DVD features more of Europe, and the split-screen seems pretty useful (i.e. the upcoming service stations feature). Must confess that I was ignorant as to the difference in screen size. The more robust controller is the icing on the cake really. Cheers everybody :)
  7. Thanks for the info guys! I'm slightly confused - I'd always thought the screen was the same size for the CD/DVD versions - what can I do with a dual display mode? Have the map on part of it, what can I have on the rest? Menu..? Phil - any chance you'd be able to check sometime whether the DVD you have includes countries other than France/Germany? Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated! Hope to pick up an IS200 sometime this week! Would ideally have been Granite Grey, but I think I can live with Astral Black...
  8. Thats good news over the controller, but given what you've said about Lexus not hiring out DVDs, it'd be annoying if I get the newer sat-nav system but find its basically a retrogressive decision, in that I'd have been able to hire out European CDs, but have to pay £300 for the DVD equivalent... Thanks for the info, much appreciated. If anyone has a similar-age car to that I'm considering (2001, '51-reg) and is able to clarify that the sat-nav DVD does indeed contain more than just major roads in France/Germany, it'd be much appreciated. If not I'll just have to fork out £300 for a newer DVD... the price seems pretty extortionate however, no matter how good the sat-nav system is.
  9. Thanks for the info Colin. Could you possible elaborate on 'not much of Europe' - I'm assuming it includes at least Germany/France/Italy, etc.!? To clarify then - if I get the '51 reg car, it'll have the DVD system then? I've played with the CD system in a W-reg car - does the DVD system offer any new functionality? Is the controller the same? (I thought the controller on the W-reg that I looked at was slightly annoying - had to really force it left and right to make it move, build quality seemed a bit cheap. I know the latest IS certainly don't use the exact same controller, but I don't know when it swapped). Any more info is much appreciated!
  10. Thanks for the info guys. I don't think the DVD system was introduced onto the IS quite that early, although I could be wrong - anyone have a definitive answer? Glad to hear its not a problem hiring the CDs out though!
  11. Hi all, Am purchasing an IS200 very soon, and had a couple of quick questions over the Sat-Nav system: 1) I'd probably end up getting a car with the CD-version, which will of course only cover the UK. One seller told me its possible to hire CDs from Lexus that cover Europe - is this correct? Or do I have to buy them outright? 2) When was the CD system replaced by DVD? I'm considering a 2001 - '51 reg car - might that have the DVD system? Many thanks, Peter
