  1. Great explanation. Up 'till then I thought anti-lag was a system only available to the police!
  2. I assume that it is to stop lights going on & off all the time - especially if you are driving in a well lit city centre, or if there are a lot of bright headlights around you??
  3. Sorry! Was a 'tongue in cheek' joke. the fact is that most jobs & especially sales jobs are really stressful these days.
  4. And finally please don't compare us to Estate Agents!! ;) They get 1% of something, regardless of how low they go, with us we sometimes get a % of something if anything is left! AND we have to work on Sundays! Going off-topic I know, but as a former estate agent of 15 years before I got a 'proper job' there are very few other businesses that will spend hundreds or thousands of pounds marketing their customer's own possession, with no money up front & no guarantee that they will get any money back afterwards. A high percentage of sales fall through & many sellers just change their minds. British agents charge the lowest fees worldwide & only usually make any money once the sale goes through - often several months or even a year or two later. Many also work Sundays & late into the evening. These days it is a very cut-throat business with loads of stress. One large firm I worked for had a staff turnover of 200% p.a. The image of Estate Agents is way out of date. There are still some underhand agents but these are usually the large firms who dont mind how the money comes in so long as it does. I now have my own business & still work long hours, but you wouldn't drag me back to Estate Agency. Got that off my chest - now to paraphrase an old joke: Q:Why don't car salesmen look out of the window in the mornings? A:Because they wouldn't have anything to do in the afternoon!
  5. If she gets her claim form in asap it will probasbly take 2-3 weeks min before they give the go-ahead. Suggest you get the estimates done anyway to save time. If you go thru your insurers they will be quicker. Keep a note of all your expenses & try & claim them. If you are claiming direct from her - get her to write & confirm she will pay for the repairs. If it is thru her insurers - pester them!
  6. I worked in a claims department many years ago, but I doubt if things have changed: Strictly speaking you should report any accident to the insurers regardless of whose fault it is. Reason being that the other party may well dispute the claim once she has told her hubby & he might try & be clever & get some old damage paid for by you! It often happens even in clear-cut cases like this & you would be amazed how it suddenly becomes you that must have been driving fast while she was stationary. If you don't report it - your insurers will wash their hands of it & leave you to argue it out. They will also reduce your no-claims bonus 'till it is sorted. The fact that they have quoted for renewal already makes no difference. If you do report it they will probably reduce your bonus because of a possible pending claim & will not reinstate it untill you have been paid in full. If you have comp insurance you can get your insurers to repair it (probably at Lexus) & they should then claim from the other side less any excess which you need to claim. If you claim direct from the other party, or their insurers they will probably ask for 2 estimates & pay for the cheaper one. If you go for the more expensive - you would pay the difference. You would probably have to pay for the job first yourself & claim it back after. I know this doesn't make you feel any better, but insurance is a nightmare! If you have an additional policy for legal expenses, you should find that they will take it all over for you. Good luck & I hope you find there is no damage & we have been wasting our time. Have a good look along the side of the car from about 3ft behind the bumper for any wavy panels/dents.
  7. Sorry - can't help regarding alignment, but it may well be the bottom ball joints that need replacing. Same thing happened to me & despite passing an MOT it was found that they were well worn. Buy them from Lexus (about £50) & get them fitted elsewhere. Easy job that cost me £50 with a local guy. Lexus wanted £300 to fit them!
  8. SO! You think she'll let you have the Lex back so easily??? I had to get rid of the wife to get mine back. Not before she'd put half a dozen dents in it & kerbed all four wheels. Just couldn't bear to go on. It's the not knowing what she was doing with the car when I was out!
  9. I am after one (grey, drivers side) too! Anyone have one for sale at a reasonable price? Thanks
  10. I also e-mailed him last week to ask how long had he owned the car, service history etc. No reply. If he had interest at £9,700 why is he asking £5K now???? Do not touch this one!!
  11. Hi & welcome to the club. The IS is one of the most reliable cars you will find & as long as it has good service history you should not have a problem. There should be plenty about with Lexus history as it seems that more owners than average stick with dealer servicing. Obviously consumable items like the clutch & dampers may need replacement soon, also the bottom ball joints are prone to go (check for wear on the inside edge of front tyres). The only common faults are corroding of the alloy wheels (might be still under warranty) & an 'err3' message on the CD player which Lexus extended the warranty to 4 years for. Mine is 5K past its 60K service & the oil is still a golden colour which speaks volumes for the quality. I believe the 100k service might be an expensive one (search elsewhere on this site), but become a gold member & save around 15% & also look at the Lexus pre-pay scheme. They are great cars & you will be smiling every time you drive & you won't even mind polishing it! Lastly, have you looked on E-Bay?
  12. Put on some talcum powder (imperial leather smells nice) - will stop it immediately. :D
  13. Q: What's The Difference Between An Is200 & An Is300 A: 100
  14. Selling because the Lex is too small! Will part ex for a Harley or a Mini???
  15. I agree you shouldn't take a chance (I did once with a Transit van which collapsed - it wakes you up!), but there was no noise or looseness. Obviously the MOT station did jack it up & pry it (I watched them), but why did Lexux T.W. say they were worn??? :megaangry:
