  1. Just been told that the engineer has advised the insurance company not to sell me the car back, as there could be implications to them if I put it back on road and there is an accident ! Anyone work for insurance companies or has ant past experience as to whether this is true or not ??
  2. Hi guys, wheels are the 5 spoke SE, but have some kerb damage (from the wife !). The sat nav unit and touch screen should go straight in another car(I think), not sure of the price, will listen to offers. I am pi**ed off with my insurance though(insure.co.uk), I had the accident on 8th Jan, and I am still waiting for them to make me an offer for the car. Have had to buy myself a run around for the time being. A Y plate Avensis, not a bad car, but once you get used to a lexus......... :-( The only good point is the 'broken' fuel guage, at least it seems that way as it hardly moves ! :D
  3. Just found out my car has been written off after me putting it down a ditch. Absolutely gutted, but may have the chance to buy the car back if anyone is interested for spares. The main damage is underneath, with steering rack and rear suspension broken, the car has the cd sat nav with the latest disc, seats are in great condition, everything inside works(switch gear etc). So it's goodye from me................unless I succumb and buy another one !! Let me know if anyone is interested in the car. Terry
  4. Whatever you do, DO NOT put cellulose or any solvent based products any where near your leather. The leather in modern cars is 99% 'finished' (painted) with water based finishes, and any solvent product will strip the finish right off. The best thing to clean your seats with is Dove liquid soap or similar, made up into a mild solution. All of these leather 'feeds' and post treatments are a waste of money, the finish on the leather is designed to be water, dirt, scratc etc etc repellant. They are a throw back to when seats were made with veg tanned leather with no finish. Sorry for the lecture, I am a leather technologist working for the biggest supplier of automotive leather in the world and it annoys me that these big companies rip people off with their hard earned money for products that do jack sh*t !
  5. One for Colin I think, I seem to remember it was him posted it last time ! I came accross a post, many many, months ago, about a setup menu on the sat nav, it involved turning the headlights on and off whilst holding certain switches( I think !), could somebody please refresh my memory. Thanks in advance Terry ps I've tried searching through old posts, to no avail !!
  6. Has it made a kind off inverted ridge in the metal (where they pressed on the keys), or is it more of a scratch ? Definitely a scratch, paint gone, you can get a fingernail in there, no chance of a T-cut or anything. Problem is, if I go through insurance, I think there's a £250 excess for malicious damage, and I can't afford that at the moment, or to get it repaired. Plus if i did get it done I would be worried sick of leaving the car anywhere in case some little scrote done it again........................ No easy solution I guess.
  7. Come back from the match the other day, and some little ****** had took a key right down the drivers side of my car. The scratch is right down to the metal in most places, so no chance of polishing it out. Glad I never caught them doing it, or I'd have been up on a murder charge now ! Anyway, has anybody tried any of these 'magic' scratch repairers, or colour magic waxes, or any other suggestions gratefully received.
  8. It has a connector and an 'adapter' of some sorts for docking. Haven't seen a 'normal' ipod so don't know
  9. My mk 2 on an S plate, has 190,000 on the clock and runs like a dream. ~My mileage is 60% motorway, averaging 26 - 30 MPG depending what mood I'm in. I can get as low as 20 in town, but again that's with a heavy right foot.
  10. I have a GS300 on an S plate which has covered 187,000 miles. Without wanting to tempt fate the car really is as good as new. The engine is quiet as a mouse, the ride is excellent and the ower is awesome.......135 MPH without a murmour(so I hear :-) ) I'd say go for it mate, you won't regret it.
  11. How do you make it beep, mine doesn't do anything when I get near a marked point ?
  12. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the settings on the automatic closure of the windows and roof? I would like it to close them with just a short press, rather than having to hold the button down until fully closed. I have done it a few times where I walk away thinking they are all closed, and come back to the car and find a window half open !! I know what you're going to say, check before I walk away, but that is SO uncool isn't it !! :D
  13. As the title suggests, I changed my battery and now my tickover is lumpy and uneven. Anyone any suggestions as to why this is, and what I can do to overcome it ? ps only cost me £39, think I got a good deal !
  14. I had a similar problem on my 99 GS, check it isn't something as simple as an exhaust heat shield which has come loose. Mine rattled like a good 'un until I ripped the heat shield off from underneath, it really was that simple, took me two minutes with a prybar, the thing was rusted to hell.
  15. Didn't get round to buying the glass, other commitments to spend my money on unfortunately. To be honest it is still useable, just looks a bit ropey
  16. Now ya tell me ! It's peeing down anyway, and the kids are wantin to go out, so no chance today !
  17. Need new pads all round on my 98 gs300, is it easy to do and what are the pitfalls? Also what tools do ya need? OR if anyone fancies popping round and 'helping' me !!! :D
  18. When I press the boot lid release button on my keyfob, my bootlid just pops open an inch or so. Is this correct or should it open fully? Terry
  19. Thanks guys, I'll ring round and see if there is one at any of the local breakers, not holdin my breath though. Failin that, I'll just crane my neck further round to see what's behind !! Don't fancy shellin out £100 quid for a piece of glass !
  20. Hi guys, The drivers wing mirror on my 99 gs300 started to lose the mirrored finish in the corner a while back, it has now spread up to about a fifth of the mirror. Is this a common problem, is there anythin I can do to stop it getting worse, or failing that can I just replace the glass, and is it expensive?? Sorry, lots of questions ! Thanks in advance Terry
