  1. That's a good shout - I'll have to look for post-upgrade models and hope they aren't crusted either but it's definitely worth the effort! Odd that no one bothers to sell them on eBay considering the price hike - you'd think some breakers would've caught wind of this and jumped on the extortion train!
  2. Doh!!! This makes so much sense why didn't I think of it! You saved me a potential window shattering mate, kudos to you. I'll be moving onto repairs then!
  3. I had this 'welcoming sound' on my 2006 110K car. Topped up the coolant as it was touching the low line and it seems to have gone away.
  4. A small pedantic thing maybe worth adding is - during the test drive, open all of the windows and step on it (safely of course!) for a good 5-10s, best to do uphill. Do this and see if your car fills with horrible sulphury smell especially if it's a 2005-2007 as this will indicate a worn out rubber flap in the boot vents causing smelly gasses from the exhaust to enter the cabin (potential sulphur poisoning??) - this will happen almost every time you step on it hard so to some this might not matter. The repair is very easy but mildly costly considering it's just a piece of rubber: https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-is-phase-2-rear-quarter-panel-vent/?utm_source=LexusOwnersClubUK&utm_medium=ForumLinks I might add you won't find this part outside of the above website (if you do I will marry you!) I believe post 2007 or 2008 Lexus upgraded the vents so they don't dry up and crust away letting the gasses in (supposed to be a one-way vent originally).
  5. Hey all of you chosen ones (you know who you are), I dove deep into the well known sulphur/eggy problem on older IS250s and found multiple people pointing towards the rear quarter, trunk boot, air duct, vent, rubber seal, insert other tags here for the poor soul searching for this problem in the future - to be the problem. For you my friend who found this in the future, this is the part you need: https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-is-phase-2-rear-quarter-panel-vent/ My question is simple but quite unusual... Given the low availability of these, the prices are quite silly especially considering you can't just get the rubber insert that's deteriorated and since Lexus upgraded this part sometime post 2007 - I have no certainty whether the above is the post or pre upgrade version so: Can I just block this vent out to avoid the nasty smell/sulphur poisoning? Does anyone know what the technical purpose of this vent is? Is it to avoid 'bloating' of gases in the boot? Is it a redundant safety feature? Will I be hurting some weird niche part of the 1000 inner workings our wonderful cars constantly do without us knowing? Thanks a lot, I love being a part of this community - if you're reading this in the future I highly recommend you sign up! EDIT: Or does anyone know if any other car's vent might fit??
  6. I tried both front seats, both footwells and holding the new key near ignition - all of that ends with the same result of the timer running out causing a failure. Autolocksmith is my next stop if this doesn't work, I was hoping it's the usual "DOH! Stupid me!" scenario and since I went through the trouble of getting the cable working and connected, I hoped someone here could make me feel silly once more (in a good way) before I take the car to a specialist.
  7. Hey all again, I've been trying to program an additional key for my IS250 and I managed to get it connected, get the setup wizard started, tap my key on the ignition, tap the blank key on the ignition then my laptop says something along the lines of "now place the blank key on the passenger side seat" and nothing that I physically do with the key let's me progress, always ending in failure of the setup. I have tried arranging a visit to the local Toyota/Lexus technicians as I don't mind the small programming fee but they have been messing me about for the last three weeks leaving me with "best do it yourself then!" attitude... Thanks!
  8. Is there any specific way to go about finding out the correct sizes? Is it car specific or range specific? Apologies for being a block head but I only recently started looking into rim, wheel and tire sizes and I'm struggling to absorb it all! Thanks
  9. Hey all, Long time listener, second time caller! My 2006 IS250 with 110k miles on it (spotless engine though!) came with your typical 220d 16" rims, the nasty silver ones you can find on eBay for £30 a rim. The speedo shows way too much compared to GPS. It goes something like this: GPS - 30mph, car - 35mph GPS - 40mph, car - 47mph GPS - 70mph, car - 82mph I initially thought that the car must've had shot rims and the seller bought the cheapest fitting set (16s) and assuming the 250 comes standard with 17s I bought a nice set of Lexus 17 inchers and fitted them but the speedo readout is still the same (not sure if identical but still way too much). Does anyone have any experience with this kind of issue? I'm emailing specialists all over the place with mixed results, some saying the tires are too small some saying my GPS is wrong and my car is correct?? I tested this against multiple cars, two GPSs and one of those digital speed signs that measure your speed. The margin of error between these controls were the standard 1-2mph between them. Appreciate any insight or ideas, thanks!
  10. That's same as my 06, no reaction to any of the programming sequences. I only just started playing with techstream and I'm not sure if it's working correctly as so far the only thing I'm able to access personalisation wise is the aircon settings. But that's an issue for another day and another forum (plsnoban!). I'm considering taking my car to one of the Toyota specialists like Osaka or ITS for them to have a proper look (they use Techstream). Will post results here!
  11. Got one for £30 off eBay a few days ago with genuine software and a cracked version of the latest v16, I'm struggling with the drivers at the moment (classic unable to connect to vim error) but the eBay seller is extremely helpful and is going to walk me through it tonight but if I can't figure it out by the end of the week I'll be in your DMs mate haha! If anyone stumbled upon this message looking for the mini VCI send me a private message I have a fantastic seller who goes above and beyond to get it working for you.
  12. Oh that's very interesting, would've been lovely if Lexus made a mention of it in the manual! My car is a 56 plate, I'm going to have to do some research on this regard. Thanks for this info! I don't think I would've ever stumbled upon this nugget on my own! I'm currently wrestling with Techstream, once that works (if it does) hopefully I'll be able to confirm this for good.
  13. Hey Hey, I love all checking! Yeah I have tried to program it on several different occasions (and drove the car many times inbeween), there is still no autolock. When I input the sequence the car doesn't lock-then-unlock as shown on the videos and threads, it just does nothing asif it's not responding to the commands.
  14. Hey all, new (proud) owner of an aged but still super-smooth 2006 IS250 here. Long time listener, first time caller! I have looked at numerous videos and threads regarding the auto-locking setting (as seen in the user's manual) and I followed all of the steps meticulously 10 times over (All doors shut, IG-ON, Set to P/N, Hold Lock/Unlock for 4s/5s/6s/7s/etc.) and my car doesn't seem to respond to any of it at all in any way. The auto-lock feature is currently entirely turned off and I would like to set it to either D = lock or move = lock and P = unlock or to be fair at this point I would like to set it to anything just so I know the programming actually works. When I follow all the steps in all the ways you can possibly try them - the car does absolutely nothing. Also annoyingly I have it set so if I lock from inside and come out using driver's door then all other doors remain closed... I would love any tip at this point as I'm going a little bit crazy with the amount of things I have tried in this regard but fully open to the idea that I'm just an absolute block head. Thanks! ______ Some of the things I have tried multiple times (every time I'm bored and want to sit in my car again which is a lot):
