  1. I seem to be having the same problem as Melissa - maybe it's because the instructions supplied with the Keys is wrong? As with Melissa, had purchased spare keys, which I have had cut and have programmed the transponders successfully. However am completely at a loss as to how to program the keyless entry and remote. The procedure of: 0) Keep door open 1) Insert key 2) Lock/unlock 5 times 3) Close door 4) Lock/unlock 5 times 5) Insert Key 6) Turn ignition 1, 2, 3 or 5 times 7) Remove key Does not seem to work on a GS300 Mk2. Has anybody been able to get a method to reprogram the remote working on the GS300, or alternatively, does anyone know how to? Any help in this would be greatly appreciated, otherwise my neighbours will really think I've lost it (what with opening closing doors and sitting in a car for hours)
  2. Had an Audi 90 Quatrro sometime back, which needed a complete engine rebuild after just 200 miles on Mobil 1. Probably scarred for life now. Read your comment about a little extra engine noise when using Mobil 1, and thought deja vu so decided against it (the audi started to have a little extra engine noise after Mobil 1). It's a direct replacement for the Denso 90915-20003, so should be manufactured to the same spec. The Ebay auctions state Genuine OEM and the ebay user mentioned seems to know quite a lot about sourcing parts for Lexi/uses from Japan. A lot of the stuff he sells are Original Toyota/Denso parts but at seemingly ridiculous prices.
  3. If you've never changed oil or oil filters then the following article would be of use to you http://www.lexls.com/oilchange.html The only difference I found, was that I didn't remove the underside cover for the engine, and that I needed to get a ladder to step on and remove the oil filter from above the engine compartment. The actual space is pretty confined, so the use of an oil filter spanner or removal tool would be advantageous. I sourced the replacement Oil Filters from Ebay with the Ebay user nipponnev (no connection, Ebay Sellers URL: http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...erid=nipponnev) at 2.50 a pop, and although I didn't pursue it, our local Halfords said they could not get an appropiate filter so it may be worth avoiding them for this. Manufacturer: nipparts Part Code: J1312021 (original Denso is part number 90915-20003) Replacement oil was Chevron Fully Synthetic 5W40 at ukp 9.99 ex VAT per 4ltrs purchased from CostCo. I also purchased 2xMobil 1, but didn't have the guts to use it with such a high mileage car.
  4. Use the highly instructive and helpful article on http://www.lexls.com/front_brake_pad.html if you've never replaced brake pads before. With the GS300 MK2 calipers looking awfully like the LS400 (well it looks similar to the pictures) the procedure should be the same The replacement pads I used were purchased from SAP Motor Parts (www.sapmotorparts.com) and cost ukp 21.09 ex VAT per axle set. (No connection with company, just seems to be a cheap place to get certain parts) Manufacturer: Quinton Hazell Part Number: BP1164
  5. Did a search on number plate and licence plate light/lamp replacements, and no results came up for a GS 300 MK2, so thought I might as well share my experience in case it is of any value to others. Rear tail-lights are standard 5W 12V affairs from either Halfords (Part Code: HBU501) or from CPC (www.cpc.co.uk) for a lot cheaper. To replace the bulbs, doesn't require too much effort, and doesn't require the removal of the number plate light surround as I've read about the IS200. Firstly, open the boot, and remove the 10 or so plastic grommets that hold the boot liner against the boot. Secondly, if you look up, you should be able to see the two light modules, with the wires coming out of the back of the modules. Turn the modules in an anti-clockwise motion and then retract the module. Replace bulb, use a screwdriver to tease out the out bulb if required. Return module to light surround, and turn in clockwise motion to lock. Replace plastic grommets and close boot. Check to see if you lights work.
  6. Just to let you know, mine started to show a similar Fuel Gauge problem, but the £20 quid refueling offsets the inconvience of the fuel light being constantly on. I'm going to try and have a look at the fuel gauge sender in a couple of weeks, just to see whether it's fixable, and will report back here if anyone's interested.
  7. Many thanks for the suggestions/info. I'm still a bit hesitant on using Mobil1, as my last experience of the stuff resulted in over 800 quids worth of engine damage to an Audi 90 Quattro I used to have 10 years back. Saying that, not too sure whether this is a good price, but bought 2 x 4 litre Mobil1 from CostCo - 19.99 ex VAT (23.49 inc)
  8. Thanks for the that; but what is Lexus' recommendation? ( I wasn't given any manuals with the car )
  9. Hi to this board from a new member I've quite recently purchased a GS 300 Mk II, with LPG conversion, and a full Lexus Service History upto 131000 miles, and am looking at doing most of the servicing and maintenance myself - will probably keep car for a good while - hence resale value not of importance. Having access to the Mitchell On Demand Service & Repair Manuals, I checked which Engine Oils they would recommend for the car. Back came the answer 5W-30 or 10W-30. Reading through most of the discussions, people recommend using Mobil 1 (of which I recently bought 2 cans), but this is 0W-40. So the following questions beckon: 1) Would it be wise/safe to use Mobil 1 on such a high mileage car 2) What formulation/brand do the Lexus dealers use 3) Does anyone know of any good sources for 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil, Don't mind buying in 25 litre containers 4) Is there another oil you would recommend? Thanks in advance for any responses and answers. If these questions have been asked before, then apologies, but spent over 2 hours looking and searching without any luck.
