  1. Hi - welcome to LOC. The RX 350 would make excellent choice - it's 4wd enough to handle a little light off road. I had one for 3 years and it was totally reliable, comfortable, spacious and had all the toys I needed. IMHO - get the SE-L. The air suspension allows you to raise and lower the car at the touch of the button. Also it gets power tailgate. Only negatives - fuel costs. I ranged from 17/18 in town to about 27 on motorway. Overall - the 350 will be a great choice.
  2. They appear to be raising all prices to allow them to slot the new small model (HS) into the range at the bottom.

    Rx450h

4000 miles @ 30.5 mpg (mainly motorway) didn't expect to match the official figures and after having RX350 the 450 is a revelation!!
  4. Depends how much you want radar cruise, sunroof (available as option on SE-L by the way) and heads up. All nice stuff but not worth 5K so I went with SE-L.
  5. I have RX450 and can confirm that consumption does increase in cold weather - defrost, heated seats, heater etc etc. However the the operation and smoothness is not affected.
  6. Now my RX450 is certainly no Range Rover but I have to say that it has coped very well in the snow. At least as good as my RX350 did and maybe a little better even? To get out of my garage I have to reverse up through 90 degrees into the end of the cul-de-sac. Then move forward and right 90 degrees to exit. I cleared my drive but still 2 inches of packed snow and then at end of my drive it goes into 8-10 inches of snow - some packed some drift. Once out of the cul-de-sac 300-400 yards of packed snow then onto slushy main road. Well to set the scene my neighbours XC90 (bald tyres) wouldn't make it onto her own driveway. The RX?? not a problem. the electric motors seem to make it very well suited to crawling slowly through deep snow and the VDIM beeped/flashed and I kept going without a problem. As I said not a Rangie but certainly good enough to get us through this global warming stuff they keep harping on about
  7. Let them march. Ignore them or take the *****. It's called freedom of speech and it's what makes us better than they are :-)
  8. iPOD update - it appears that my IPOD needs a reset every so often. Hadn't used it for a week or so and even the IPOD appeared to be working the RX couldn't find it. reset IPOD and al well again.
  9. re IPOD - what version you do you have? The manual says gen 5 and above sorted but I had a very early gen 5 and had same issues as you - unreliable connection. Swapped for agen 6 and all is well.
  10. I tried super unleaded today for the first time and mix of motorway, roadworks and heavy traffic gave me 34.6mpg over 110 miles.... Overall I am averaging 30.5 mpg of mainly motorway. Best bit is that I am not really trying to drive in an eco way. Also at motorway speeds teh overtaking thrust available is addictive :-) as for the harsh ride mentioned in motor press - cobblers!! My SE-L has 19 inch wheels and it is absolutely fine! DAB is great. Full postcode in sat nav at last. Overall - very pleased (especially now the rattles have been fixed!)
  11. Maybe a pattern is emerging here .. My first Lexus - 2003 LS 430 - virtually faultless My second Lexus - early build 55 plate GS 430 - creaks, rattles - replaced by lexus for My third lexus 56 plate Rx 350 - one fault in 3 years = squeaky seat. Just replaced with My fourth lexus - brand new RX450h 59 plate - squeaks and rattles fixed in both doors (silent now though!) Moral is wait until the model has got 12 months under its belt. This isn't just Lexus but many brands.
  12. I am using the ECO mode - the one controlled from right square button on steering wheel???
  13. IPOD issue - mine had similar. I checked manual and it stated that gen 5 IPOD classic and newer supported. However mine was a very early gen 5. I upgraded to gen 6 and had no connection problems since. Other probs I have had - rattles from bot front doors which were fixed bt Brackell - annoying but not end of the world. I am averaging 32+ mpg since new (1200 miles) and have seen 35+ in London traffic and 40+ on 50mph roadworks on M3. Overall - fab car but once agin lexus do seem to struggle on early build cars for rattles!
  14. Just driven a 59 IS 250 SE-I as courtesy car and my first impressions is that the build quality is much improved over earlier "rattly" models.
  15. Sorry if this sounds callous but I suspect the way most of us feel about modern Britain, the faceless civil "servants" and the performance of the police we would opt to not cross the red light no matter what. The way this driver has been treated backs us up does it not?
  16. I just got a decent discount + freebies on my 450 SEL and decent APR too. Just be prepared to haggle hard.
  17. I took a testdrive in teh SE-L with air suspension today. very nice ride - better than the air in my current 350.
  18. breaking news - you can now order the sunroof on the SE-L - no need to buy premium
  19. oh one thing I forgot to add - the RX and X6 have one mjor thing in common. They look SH*T in photos and much much better in the flesh :D
  20. Totally agree with you on a "Business" user, around town the lexus wins no doubt, BUT I like many don't drive much in town, so not so good for me. What gets up my nose is all the "HYPE" about technology from Lexus and yet still is falls way short of "STATED" facts and figures. Just where have these millions of pounds worth of improvement got the car from the 400h, in short NOWHERE. LexusJohn - I understand that you have an X6 and everyone is entitled to their opinon but to say that there has been no improvement since 400h is a little unfair. To play devils advocate I have driven both X5 and X6 and yes they "out-handle" the RX450 - or to put it another way the ride comfort of the X5/X6 is absolutely woeful next to RX450 which having not even a whiff of sportiness about it is a much more relaxing drive. As for economy it is a lot down to driving style. You claim upto 40 mpg in your X6 but Top gear are claiming 24 for the same car? What car averaged 37 mpg in RX450 in their tests? It will depend entirely on journey type and driving style. One thing I do know is the RX will switch off and save fuel in traffic but X6 won't. If you are a business user you can't ignore the 14% BIK and as a non business user you can't ignore the congestion charging saving and less road tax. I also prefer to be a Lexus owner rather than BMW owner - as a past owner I was never that impressed with BMWs customer service. Anyway please don't see this as Lexus good BMW bad rant - it isn't! I just feel it is important to say that it's horses for courses. I liked the RX as it suits my driving style and I like the looks, equipment and feel of it. You seem not to - great. Just be glad that we can still drive vehicles that suits our needs and wants still in this day and age.....
  21. be careful!!! before you know it the cheque book will be out! :D
  22. Couple of quick q's on the 450h: 1. I see no rear DVD players as currently fitted to my 400h SE-L on the Lexus website - have they been dropped? 2. Do we still have the reversing camera and now the new sensors, or has the camera now been dropped? 3. Do you reckon the premier model is worth that much more than the SE-L? ------------- 1) Forgot to check - have another test soon so will look 2) camera is still there as well as side camera on certain models 3) Currently no - extra 5K gets sunroof, radar cruise and heads up. I complained and Lexus Bracknell said they are speaking to Lexus to see if the sunroof can be a cost option on the SE-L. the HUD was fun but I could live without it and teh radar cruise similar.
  23. The ciggy lighter - or 12v socket as Lexus calls it is in the storage bin under armrest (2 of them) and USB slot for IPOD.
