  1. Hi, I know you did say the cambelt was changed but it sounds like the tensioner to me, mine sounded like that until cambelt, tensioner and water pump got replaced and then it just was fine.
  2. Well guys thanks for all the replies most helpful. I took Scudneys advice and used Heeley Alden to replace my front shocks with KYBs, very good family friendly service I think I will use them next time. I also had the MOT retest done today all sorted happy days again ;)
  3. These have got to be worth a try Rainsport 3 Uniroyal very very good in the wet. Check out mytyres.co.uk they got good reviews and at £108 a corner.
  4. Hi there, I got my MOT done today and it failed for the very first time in 10 years of ownership. :eerrrmm: Failed on 2 things : 1) Front nearside shock absorber leaking 2) Wipers not cleaning screen effectively. I had only changed the wipers less than 6 months ago as my previous Bosch were getting noisy. Anyway they quoted my £158 for Part +VAT+ labour to do 1 shock absorber, about £90 for labour, does this seem a good price. I got 10 days to get the retest done so need to get it sorted soon. How easy is it to do this DIY as I could not find any previous posts, I've got spanners galore but no compression clamps. Also should both be done at the same time? I'm tempted to get this checked at another garage as they could not show me the leak as it was off the ramp when I came to collect. Anyone know a good reliable garage in Northampton?
  5. These are the sensors that communicate with the 2 wireless headphones you should have also got.
  6. I had the same problem when I purchased my RX400. I thought it was the headphones itself but Lexus Bolton sent me a new set, these did not work either. I visited Lexus MK and they basically taped over one of the leds and this worked, it doesn't look great but it works. You may need try this on your door pillars and see if this works. Good luck
  7. The leds are definitely for transmitting sound to the wireless headphones. Enjoy I have the same model, fantastic car and value for money.
  8. I`m thinking of changing the rear brake pads on my Is200 as I was quoted around £95 by a local garage. One question, does the rear caliper need to be removed in order to push the pistons back. Could I push the pistons back using a screwdriver with the caliper in situ?
  9. Hi there, looking to buy a RX400H in the next 3-6 months. I would like to know what is the difference between an SEL and SE model apart from the DVD screens and the extra money. thanks
  10. Its every 100k or 6 years I know it says 100,000 miles or 6 years in the vehicle service book but I think you'll find from previous posts on the subject that Lexus now recommend changing the cam belt at 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first mishman, might be worth contacting JEM who are just up the road from you ....they might be cheaper than Lexus for a timing belt change Called them this morning around £390 cambelt + oil service. Thanks for the tip car going in next week see how it goes. Did you get your cambelt and oil service done ok mishman? Would be interested in your thoughts of JEM and whether you'd recommend them? Had the above work carried out needed a few extras done coolant, tensioner + additional belts. Unfortunately my offside caliper was also siezed this added on another £370. Work was done well, can`t be certain my caliper was siezed as I brought it back home. Otherwise the service would be around £520 + caliper = £890. Still cheaper than Lexus I guess. Was given a YAris courtesy car for 2 days quite pleasant.
  11. Gave the car into JEM Edgware they changed the caliper as mine was siezed. Car running sweet now, but my wallet is a lot lighter, £367 for the caliper all in.

  13. Just got a quote for 40k service which includes cam-belt change from Lexus @Edgware. £845 this seems extortionate for a is200 2001 sport you think they would try to entice you back with cheaper servicing now the new model has been around a while.
  14. Tell me Tigerfish how do go about testing / releasing a siezed caliper.
  15. Both brake pads and discs were replaced last Oct.
