  1. I'm looking at trading in my 2000(X) IS200 SE for a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi PPP. The trouble is, the Scooby is very competetively priced, and the dealer will only offer me £7000 for my Lexus as part exchange. The Lexus has only done 52K miles, has full Lexus service history, tax/test till November, very good condition, and the nice dark grey colour that most people seem to like. £7000 seems ridiculously low to me, but when I've been looking around on the net, there's so much spread in prices, it's hard to know whether to try to sell it privately for more money, or just bite the bullet and let it go. Any advice would be gratefully received :)
  2. Just a quick question - I've tried searching, but there don't seem to have been many threads on the subject, and no clear recommendations. I've got my IS200 booked in for its 50k service in a week, and thanks to reading threads on here, I requested a quote with and without me providing the oil. If I provide it the cost will be £44 less, which seems worthwhile. So... can someone please tell me what type of oil I'm best going for? I know it has to be fully synthetic and 5W40, but what's best for a standard Lexus? Also, they said that I will have to provide 4.2 litres of oil - does it usually come in 4l bottles, and are they just saying this to be awkward? Many thanks for any help!
  3. Has anyone here had their stock alloys refurbed in anthracite? Just wondering if there are any pictures anywhere, as it's something I've been considering doing. The alloys on my IS200 were refurbed when I bought the car, but the finish isn't brilliant and the (Saab) garage I got it from kerbed one quite badly in between me buying the car and collecting it (I didn't notice till the day after I got it home and when I complained was told that they couldn't be sure I hadn't just done it myself...) Any opinions on whether it would look good? I'm a big fan on anthracite-look wheels, but can't decide whether it would suit a Lexus or not :duh:
  4. I recently bought a used IS200SE, and my previous car was a Bravo HGT (the 2 litre, 20v model) - I still think Bravos are great looking cars. I've had the Lexus about 2 months or so now, but am still not entirely sure whether I did the right thing. I love the way the Lexus looks, and it's extremely comfortable and well equipped. However, on the other side of the coin I've been disappointed by its lack of power (it seemed quicker when I test drove it!), and its dire fuel economy. Officially, the Bravo HGT has a worse mpg than the IS200, but I've found the IS200 much worse. It doesn't help that whenever I drive our other car (an MR2 Roadster) then get back in the Lexus, it feels like a tank ;) I'd bear in mind that the running costs (not including insurance) for the Lexus will be huge compared to your Bravo (servicing alone is horrendous), but I don't think you should be put off buying second hand if you can find one for the right price.

  6. I recently (2 weeks) ago bought an X reg IS200 SE, and have been very happy with it so far. Thanks to this forum & the LOC, I immediately got some nice caliper stickers which look great on my freshly painted calipers; also seen many other useful bits on information in the few weeks I've been reading the forums. The thing that has horrified me most about the Lexus is the fuel economy (or lack thereof). My previous car was a Fiat Bravo HGT, that's the 2 litre, 5 cylinder model, which is notorious for being very fuel greedy. The official combined mpg for the HGT is 28 whilst the Lexus is 29 (figures from Parkers), yet I'm finding the Lexus much worse. I don't drive the car especially hard, and it's mainly dual carriageway driving. I've seen from past threads that many other people seem to get similar (low 20's) mpg, though some mentioned 30+ :o Still, I love the way it looks, it's very comfortable and the stereo's excellent!
