  1. Hi, here is the part number of my roof rack: PZ403-K0610-GA They costed 210 EURO. After reading all the posting I am wondering if you are looking for rails or for bars? Actually my roof rack is composed of 2 bars (one for front - one for rear) with legs that slide into the cars roof rails channels. I hope that is what you are looking for. P.S. still don't know how to attache a picture in this forum! Can anyone tell?
  2. My personal experience with a MY2001 (with VSD) is that I manage to climb my 40% garage slope with 10 cm of snow on snow tires. Actually I just did again today, it was sharp but did it (VSD working al the time). Also last week-end I drove around in the wood paths (10 cm of snow) and was amazed how well it was doing. Very smooth ride and torque response (in snow mode), the auto box torque converter is of a great help when doing smooth transitions in less grippy ground. So with appropriate tires it becomes a very decent soft roader but don't expect to climb big muddy slopes. Hope it helps!
  3. I spoke with Lexus UK about OEM roof rails. Unfortunately Lexus have only roof bars. Formula 4x4 do roof rails, but these will not fit if you have a sun roof. I am looking for rails that would fit into the roof channels, even if I had to do some modification. Anybody got an idea? ← Last summer I have bought roof rails for my RX300 mk1, they slide into the roof channels and are sold by Lexus over here in Luxembourg. Although my car does not have a sun roof I don't think there would be a problem because these rails sit very high (probably for that reason, also thanks to their height they generate almost no noise). I cant't find the invoice with the reference but I can tell they are from Lexus (Lexus logo molded on the plastic caps hiding the bolts) although made in Sweden (probably bu Thule). They costed around 250 EURO and are superbly made out of high quality extruded Alu bars. I will look for the reference by giving a call to the dealer if you want. I also have a picture of the car with the rails fitted but could not figure out how to insert it here, anyone can help?
  4. I read the test, and took it for what it is... figures based on the trip computer..comments on how to drive, like if that wouldn't apply to any car... wait for some serious tests. ← My trip computer is dead accurate on it's read out. I assume the new rx400h will be the same!!! ← I drove the RX400h a month ago over here in Luxembourg. I did around 50 km total, where half was motorway and the other half was secondary roads. On motorway I pushed it up to 160 km/h, did some strong accel's and cruised around 70-90 km/h on secondary roads. Overall I used 9.6 l/100km which compares with a 2.0 L familly sedan. Doing the same driving with my RX300 gives around 13 l/100km. So yes the hybrid works even outside city traffic. Lexus has done a great engineering job with this car, it accelerates like a X5 V8 and consumes as a X5 Diesel and you have the power anywhere at any speed. The sad thing is that it delivers it soo smoothly you don't feel it much, but that's Lexus. For me there is no doubt, the 400h will be the next one, but I'll wait a bit, why? Never buy a car on his first year of production, even if it is a Lexus... Regards. ← How did you manage to drive this car before even lexus staff???? ← It was over here in Luxembourg when the new GS was prestended together with the RX400h on its side. The dealer told me I was very lucky because the press did not drive it yet or was just getting the first cars for short test drives. This car was apparently still a pre-prod version but already to production spec's. Apparently the cars are not hitting the different countries at the same pace. The first deliveries will not happen before september though.
  5. Thats the ones....very nice. :D ← Gentlemen, apart from the look, which is a question of personal taste, what is the point fitting 20 inch wheels on a RX300? You had an SUV and now you have to watch for the smallest hole on the road not to damage the nice rims. Look isn't everythink, watch out for confort and quietness, not even talking about parking problems... ouch my rims!!! But if you like it, fine with me

  7. problem is colin the cost of winter tyres in 17" is :tsktsk: so 16`s would be better ← If they would exchange the 16" rims by 17" ones, they would need to supply new set of 17" winter tyres and these are :tsktsk: expensive. That is exactly the point of fitting 16" wheels (16" rims + tyres cost the same as 17" tyres).
  8. I there! I have got some news on my vibrations problem: I just made a few checks to my rims hubs and adapter's rings: what comes out is that the hubs dimension is 59.9 mm (nominal should be 60.0 mm, but we can tolerate 0.1 mm on machining) while the plastic adapter's rings are at 60.15 mm. At last this gives a total play of at least 0.25 mm of the rings on the hubs (adding to that a tolerance of 0.1 mm for the rims machining and at least the same for the assembly of the rings on the rims). If you followed me until here it means that we are now talking of around 0.45 mm total play of the wheels on the hubs (actually it is visible only by placing the rings on the hubs and trying to move them around)! Now I can better understand where this vibrations are coming from... Actually I decided to make some experiments to prove my sayings ... What I did was simply to decrease the play by adding a thin tape on the inner side of the rings and to try center the wheels on the hubs as good as I could (hand tightening each nut one after the other) before thightening them strong while still off the ground. I first did this for the front wheels and the results was much little vibration and vibration amplitude, it improved to the point that I could easily feel the vibration coming from the rear wheels on the seats. Thus I decided to repeat the experiment on the rear wheels, and it had the same effect as for the front wheels. Overall I now have a much lower vibration level (only noticeable on a perfect flat road and above 130 km/h). Of course it is not perfect but at least I know where these crazy vibrations where coming from. As a conclusion, although my AUTEC rims are adaptable to the RX300 mk1 through the adapter's rings, they are far too bad for it. Therefore my advice is to always use genuine rims (or other parts) on a Lexus, this vehicle ride quality is so good that it becomes very sentitive to any deviation in tolerance you could not feel in other cars. Now I am gonna go back to the Lexus dealer that sold me the wheels and could not figure out the problem for 3 years and see what they say... Thanks for your contibution. ← Went back to the Lexus dealer and they are ready to replace the AUTEC rims by ... Toyata RAV4 genuine steel rims! The problem is that in Luxembourg all cars sold were equiped with the optional 17 inch wheels, thus there aren't any Lexus genuine 16 inch available over here. So the only option is RAV4 rims. I am not sure what I'll do because after my findings and a full geometry check the car now feels close to perfect.
  9. in the UK there are no set sizes on the certification document as in germany, switzerland etc. - i am assuming that this is what u mean??? ← Exactly, I was refering the the TUV type certification.
  10. On the RX300 mk1, the original tyres size is 225/60/17 and there aren't many manufacturers offering these dimensions. I would advice to keep the Dunlop SP270 with the original dimensions because of some feedback I got from tyreshop salesman (who rather sells Continental!). Apparently as the RX300 mk1 suspension was tuned with the SP270 and is very sensitive to tyre structure variation, changing for another brand could cause some trouble (i.e. resonance with suspension). I did not experience it myself (I kept using the SP270 trying to avoid the trouble). Moreover changing the tyre width could impact the vehicle balance even further, not talking about the potential certification issues in case of an accident. Nevertheless, if you would still like to give it a try, you can find the equivalent total wheel diameter sizes in the table below. Keeping in mind that the first two are the ones certified by Lexus. width / series / diam / rim diam (mm) / wheel diameter (mm) 215/70/16/406,4/707,4 225/60/17/431,8/701,8 245/55/17/431,8/701,3 245/50/18/457,2/702,2
  11. One way to find out if this comes from the auto gearbox is to down shift manually to 2nd or 1st while slowing down and them accelerate (you should be in the right gear then). If if the problem is gone it means it was coming from the gear box trying to select the right gear but with too much of a lag, if not it might be anything else (i.e. Electronic Throttle Body faulty position feedback).

  13. Actually my rims use plastic type centering rings, which are no the best, but they have also been changed twice. I will try centreing the wheels with the nuts while off the ground, this would explain why the behavior changes every time they are mounted and re-mounted. Also I will try checking the centering rims dimensions against the hub.
  14. Hello, I own a 2001 RX300 and since last year I have started smelling burned oil after driving on the autoroute. It is quite ennoying, especially when you stop and let the car idle for at least 30 sec - 1 min, then you can easily notice this ennoying smell coming through the aircon or even outside the car. The Lexus dealer did work on car several times but never found the root cause. Anyone with something similar? Thanks.
  15. Hi there, I am writing you because it has been 3 years since I am experiencing vibration on my RX300 with my set of winter wheels. I have bought these from Lexus dealer but the rims are not Lexus genuine parts. They are AUTEC wheels in 7.5x16 and tires are of original size 215/70/16. I experienced vibrations on steering wheel and even seats above 120 km/h since first time mounted. The dealer has tried about everything: new tires (I got about 18 winter tires!!!), new rims and still the problem is there. Nobody else ever complained about this (as per my dealer). Problem is that once I fit the original set of wheels (17 inch) there is no vibration Anyone experienced anything like this? Thanks for your help.
  16. Hi there. If you see a difference between you RX300 display and the one with Sat Nav, it probably means your car is not an european version. All European versions have a common display (color LCD) with the buttons for navigation already there but not active. Therefore it seems that in addition to the DVD reader in trunk + GPS receiver you will have to change display and wiring. I had this checked because I wanted to put the sat nav on my RX300 (Euro version). The result was that although display and wiring were in place, the price Lexus asked for the DVD reader in trunck + GPS receiver was +/- 6000 EUR without labor!!! And you know what? I have got now a PDA with TomTom navigator for 500 EUR which I can use in any of my cars. The only way would be to get an original system from a crashed car... but them who can guarantee it still works fine? Hope it help.
