  1. Silicone & Clingfilm... Hmmmm Nope. Never tried that Still I expect it'll take your mind of the leaky trunk!!!
  2. Sorry about lowering the tone. I don't do that sort of thing now I can't, sitting here in an armchair with a computer on my lap I recommend restraint. Lets be honest we alll know it makes sense. Its just... well... sometimes when behind the wheel. Empty road etc etc. Silly me.
  3. Stop Whining. It's only a car. Had a passenger in the back of mine yesterday. How the hell did he manage to get tar, and great chunks of gravel stuck all over the formerly lovely soft pale grey carpet? Ooops! There I go now, and it's onloy a car...pet. LOL
  4. My BMW 850 got to 110 mph here...and, guess what??? So can an LS! (NO!! NOT in 2nd!, but with 'Power' biutton on and foot flat! Freaks the Beemers out! Hey Chris I've had a couple of 750's (same lovely sweet V12 as your 850). Despite being about 2.25 tonnes I reckon they would leave an LS400 for dead from 60 up. Like you I have a loooong straight stretch nearby. No junctions. No cameras. Perfect. I used to get the Beemers up to about 130+ before bottling out. There's no way my LS will get near it before hitting the corner at the end. Having said that, the LS is quieter, smoother, more comfy and very significantly better built. Those are the things I want from a car, but I could always use a little more poke Nick
  5. LOL. A sports car that drops a gear to help you loose speed. Methinks, perhaps it was doing so for another reason.
  6. YES IT IS OK. IT IS WHAT THE SHIFTER IS FOR. That and engine braking ON LONG DESCENTS Sorry about shouting!
  7. Im with Lexicon on this one. Read him and believe!! Another reason why you should not coast your car in neutral. OK This bit's going to be a bit hard for everyone to swallow, here goes. I've never had a Lex stall, but if it did while you were coasting in N. Well first you'd loose your powered steering, and then after a little light braking you'd find you also had no braking assistance. Have you ever tried this? If you were to be towed, by say the AA. OK I know this is impossible in a Lex so have a laff if you want. But if you have been unfortunate enough to be attached to the basck of a tow truck in a big car, and I have (nope it wasn't a Lexus). Its VERY HEAVY. Not the steering and braking you want as your bating up to a school crossing. Big cars I've been towed in. BMW 7 once and various Grannies and Vauxhalls, more times than I wish to remember. I gues thats why I'm so happy to have a Lexus sitting on my driveway tonight. Cheers Nick
  8. 40 mph in second gear seems a bit tame. These cars will easily rev to 6k and I think 2nd equates to about 80mph. Or am I going barmy? Anyway. Use your engine to brake if you want to but whatever you think, you are causing more wear to your engine, not only that but to your transmission too. Think about it. How can your enjine slow your car if it is not converting your speed (kinetic energy) into something else. IE Heat, Noise, whatever. I say let your brakes do the braking and keep your engine for driving (or doing 80 in second perhaps) LOL Nick
  9. Sod it How did I manage that. Same post twice!! If the first one did't bore your tits off then I was bound to get you with the second. Some really interesting cars in all the posts so far and quite a few similarities. Keep them coming and apologies to everyone for the Bollox up and the language Nick
  10. OK Folks. Hope this doesnt bore you. Here follows my personal automotive history! Singer Chamois (Hillman Imp) The most unreliable machine ever devised, bar none 2 Mini 1000's. Small, noisy, Fun Capri 2 1600 GL. Dead flash back then (well I woz just a lad) MGB GT. Old rustbucket, but new mortgage dictated Cortina Mk3 2000GT 2 door. Probably my favourite car of them all. I don't know why, but I loved it Cortina Mk4 2000 Ghia, auto. Hmm Granada Mk2 2.8 GL. Big & my first car with electric windows. Those were the days Granada M22 2.8 Saphire. Very pretty 2 tind job Granada Mk3 2.8 Ghia X. Electric seats on this one!! I was on a roll, even the wife had Grannies! Renault 25 V6. A fantastic radio Audi 100 CD. Sorry, the ride in no way compares with an LS. It's a typical German Audi ride. Quite harsh Vauxhall Rayale 2.8. Immaculate but a botched repair mean it needed wipers on the drivers door window Renault 25 V6. I needed another of those radios Rover SD1 3.5 Vitesse. Fast (in its day) no road holding, only car I ever had to carry a tool kit in. It could have been so good, but it was a BLMC/Leyland/Rover whatever Vauxhall Senator 3.0 CD. Wonderful ride (switchable dampers) and the quietist until the LS BMW 730. I did not want it, my wife did and the seller decided I was going to have it. I was glad once I'd driven it a bit. Shallow, but people react to cars like that BMW 750iL Had the power the 730 misswed and so much space (the kids were getting bigger) BMW750iL. OK I was on a roll. The cure was crappy BMW dealers, the amazing bills and I finally stuffed this one by belting into a shallow'ish puddle (5 inches or so) and locking the engine with water. Fortunatley the insurance paid up Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 GL. OK I needed a car fast. I rather lik them Renault Laguna 3.0 V6. Such a crap car. The only contender for Rover build Ford Explorer. Erm. Well. It was in you face, you would not want to kick down as the engine sounded so awful, but it got us out of V Festival late one night and back home while one of my kids was still in the car park exit queue (off road has its uses) Vauxhall Omega 3.0 Elite. Boring to look at (then the LS aint so great there), went well but kep breaking To the present. LS400. 1995. Oldest car Ive had (times are hard) I wanted something comfy, quick, that would look OK outside a customers place. I'd driven them at Millbrook years ago, and never forgott them. 140 mph round the 2 mile bowl. I've done 20k in 11 months and nothing has broken. Definatly by far and away the best build car I have ever had. I want a newer one now Oh yes! A better radio than the Renault 25's Thats the list mates. Ive probably jumbled them upa bit and missed the odd one off. If there is a theme I guess I like big, comfy, fast and the LS does all this. For the chronologically interested, all but a few of the above came to me 3 years old. Ex lease

  12. I have same problem with motion sensors on My LS400 95, when its cold! Funny that. Anyway, if you have the seperate fob for locking/unlocking, with the slider button on one side, you will find one position flashes the indicators and beeps 3 times. This equalls Motion sensors on. And the other position flashes the indicators and beeps 2 times. This equals Motion sensors off. Hope it helps. If anyone has any idea what may be triggering the motion sensors, I'd love to hear about it
  13. Hi There My LS400 doesn't whistle as such, but it has been known occasionally to fart. Well. That's who i'm blaming anyway!
  14. He who dares wins That Lex on the Isle of Wight looks great, but you'll only know if you check it out in the flesh. So, if it comes to a trip, look on it as an adventure, with the bonus of possibly aquiring a great car The only thing that's for certain is if you do nothing you garauntee failure. One last point. It's on the Isle of White and lots of buyers will be put off by this, so it might come in cheaper than a LS400 from somewhere better connected. Best of luck with your search
