  1. I do have an UK lisence, I learnt and got it here, but as you said, not for too long. I am also a British citizen with a British passport (don't know if that means anything for insurance though). And yes, my family is not over here :o . However, from reading this thread, i suppose an S model is absolutely duable? Especially my area is a really safe area... Eitherway, thanks again for everyone's kind help, I shall keep you guys updated if anything happens in the upcoming months!
  2. Actually i would love to! An H2 would be perfect, add on some bling bling and i'll be the happiest university student alive! Anees: I think I would just do that and see...again thanks for everyone's advises!
  3. Thanks for everyone's advises and welcome notes! Would it make a difference if I put my dad as the owner? He never owned a car in England though so would that not be wise? As for getting a Lexus, my parents are really paranoid about my brothers and I driving in other countries. They think we need a safe car to deal with all those highways here compared to all the low speed country roads in Hong Kong, therefore they would not trust something like a Toyota Yaris, this of course is towards my advantage . Basically anything under 2500pounds would do, regardless of which type the IS200 will be. So I guess its not too impossible of a deal here isn't it? Again, thank you so much for everyone's useful feedbacks, this is by far the most helpful and friendly board I had stumbled across! Thanks!
  4. thanks for everyone's kind welcome! Anees: to be honest, I won't be paying full for the car, but only with my scholarship of around 2,800pounds a year (which doesn't seem like anything now after what you told me!), the remaining costs would be supported by my parents. However 3,000pounds for insurance is still very expensive even with my parents' support, we could get a Ferrari insured for that price in Hong Kong with my dad's no claims, too bad he don't got any here! Hmmm...there has to be a way, there has to be a way....
  5. Thanks for your welcome note gord! Nice looking car you got there! Yes, getting car insurance is the only time I actually wish to be older!
  6. Hello everyone, my name is Justin and I'm new to this board. I had been checking out the board everyday for a while now and finally decided to do my first post, great board you guys got here! I got a newbie question. I would be purchasing my first car in the United Kingdom (i'm orginally from Hong Kong, but here to study) this May and had pretty much decided on an IS200, most likely a '01. First thing that comes to mind in buying cars in the UK, is approximately how much would insurance cost for me? I did some online quotes a long time ago and it was something ridiculous like 4000 pounds . Can anyone here give me an idea? Also would stretching for an IS300 be way too unrealistic with insurance? My budget is around 2,500pounds, anything higher would not be easy. I am 19 years old and a second year university student, I live in Newcastle-under-lyme. Thanks in advance! If my post is in the wrong section, moderators please feel free to move it, thanks.
