  1. Tesco, Direct Line and Privilege and other insurers underwritten by UK insurance require a Tracker for all vehicles over £40,000, and also on some specialist cars like Subaru Impreza's. Click on the link above or call me on 01635 521818, if you won't a quote for insurance without the need for a tracker
  2. Are A-Plan one of these companies? We are a broker, so it's not our decision. Of the 40 odd schemes we have got I would be comfortable in saying that 98% of them would let you buy it back. There is only one of the insurance companies that I know of that won't always, and we don't use them in Newbury as they are never competitive on Lexus cars for us.
  3. Hi guys, its difficult for me to comment as each case is taken on its own merits, and at risk of teach you all how to suck eggs I'll try to explain how the insurance companies treat these sorts of claims. (We have approximately 40 different schemes available to us at A-Plan Newbury, and our other branches will have other schemes that we do not have and vice versa. I do not recognise the claim in question so I don't believe it relates to my branch) There are several different categories of "write off", these are: Category A must be crushed. Category B salvage is to be broken down for parts only. Categories D and C are deemed, uneconomical to repair. These are cars which have been involved in a major car accident and are simply uneconomical for an insurance company to repair, or have been deemed a write-off by an insurance company to minimise hire car charges. Categories D and C can be "bought" back from most insurance companies, for a nominal amount i.e. the scrap value. You are then free to sell the parts of the car, or make the car roadworthy yourself and subject to certain paperwork (e.g. engineers report and MOT) able to put the car back on the road. The value of the vehicle is always determined by the market value for the vehicle at the time of the write-off(unless you have an agreed value policy, which is usually only associated with classic car policies). If your car is repairable some insurers will only replace with standard parts, others will replace with the modified parts. (Of those that replace with standard parts, some are willing to replace with modified parts if these can be bought and fitted cheaper than the standard parts. As a general rule of thumb most insurance companies will replace with standard parts. It is therefore important that if you want like for like replacement you specify this at the time, so a policy of this type can be sourced from a brokers panel of insurers to accomodate this. Hope this helps
  4. A windscreen repair should be free, and a replacement you will have to pay the excess for. Double check your policy wording though as sometimes the excess can change if an approved repairer is not used, likewise the insurer may only payout a certain amount towards a windscreen claim if an approved repairer isn't used.
  5. I believe you have a legal right to get the car repaired where you see fit, and the insurers will have to agree costs with one of the lexus dealerships. Who are your insurers?
  6. The beauty of using a broker is that if the prices rises like this then they should be able to find another policy similar to what you paid last year, because at present (NU being in the minority) prices are still falling.
  7. Potentially we will be able to do something, we will need you to give us a call, so that we can assess your needs and requirements and advise you from there. 01635 521818 rang you the other day (a plan not you individually) for a turbo is, you couldnt do anything apparently, is this the case or can u sort something out?? Cheers Elliott Are you sure you rang the Newbury branch, no one in my office recognises your details, perhaps you should call me tomorrow on 01635 521818, or pm your number and one of my staff or I will call you
  8. Potentially we will be able to do something, we will need you to give us a call, so that we can assess your needs and requirements and advise you from there. 01635 521818
  9. As I discussed with yourself earlier today, this is simply not the case with the renewal discounts we have in place with NIG. The NIG product is very good, offering Guaranteed No Claims Bonus over and above Protected No claims bonus amongst other benefits that you do not get on direct policies.
  10. Insurance wise you are looking at increase of at least 15% for it being a lhd
  11. If you have taken the policy out in the last fourteen days, you can still cancel and get a refund for the number of days you haven't used. (Financial Services Regulation + Direct Marketing Directive) The comments on here are right following a total loss claim with Elephant your policy with Elephant is cancelled, you are not able to change of vehicle on the policy or get any refund for the time that has been unused. Admiral are the same with this.
  12. Yes that was me, thanks for recommending us!!

  16. Yes we can do mods, we have several insurers that we deal with that are 'mod friendly'.

  19. Which branch of A-Plan did you try? The specialist branch is Newbury 01635 521818
  20. Do you know if Norwich Union are mod friendly? I heard they don't accept cars with tinted windows.. If it is NU through a broker then would certainly would insure a modified car, if it is NU Direct, then I'm afraid i am not sure on there underwriting criteria (but they probably will) If you are through a broker and are over 25 I would be surprised if NU are the most competitive for you (not really their target market) perhaps you should give me a call Depends who he is insured with, but with 99% of insurers he would not need to diclose any of it as they would be classed as dealer/manufacturer optional extras. Being bodykit though if it were me I would double check.
  21. What if you put larger Lexus wheels on? Where does the manufacturers std spec stop? A friend bought a 200 Sport with 18's, TTE bumpers etc brand new from Lexus Cardiff - what does he have to declare? If they were optional extras which were put on the car from new, then it is unlikely that he would need to disclose them
  22. Depending on who you are insured with it will make little difference to the premium. Worst case scenario can be that if you crash into another car at it is your fault, and your insurers find out that your car had modifications. They can through the courts look to recover their total outlay for the claim, i.e. the costs of the repairs to the other persons car + any personal injury claim that may have been made by the people in the other car If you find that your insurers are not mod friendly, then call me on the number below and I will see if we can help you out
  23. Glad we could help if anyone else is interested in a quote our branch telephone number is: 01635 521818
  24. Glad we managed to help MacRS200 Regards Alastair
  25. I was a bit disappointed with 5th gears coverage on this one. I thought they only really covered the hybrid part of the car, without any real mention on quality of the ride, interior and gadgets etc.
