  1. Managed to smash the passenger wing mirror on my 04 RX300. When i called the dealer they wanted £280 just for the glass !! Any ideas where i can find an alternative? I'm not too bothered about losing the heating and dimming function. Just want something that can do the job of a wing mirror. The original wing mirror housing itself is fine and the motor still moves so i just need the glass. Cheers Adam
  2. just had another call - apparently the compressor has also failed. they are sending out an engineer to assess. this just gets better. part of me would rather have these problems and have them solved now. the other part of me is so scared of having a car that has multiple issues that is just going to cause me headache after headache.
  3. A quick update. The bad smell turned out to be damp from the boot. A small hole was discovered that had let in water. They also disinfected the aircon system which apparently had a bacterial infection. They actually stripped all the interior carpetting out to check and dry The warnning lights on the dash were a faulty brake switch which was also repaired under warranty. I had the car back for about 3 weeks then another warning light on the dash telling me the air suspension wasn't working. This was about 2 days before xmas. Apparently one of the valves had gone faulty and required replcement. After a bit of discussion Lexus sorted me out with an RX 450h loan which covered our new year trip away thankfully. I am still without my car and it seems to have spent more time being repaired than being driven by me. To be fair Lexus compensated me for the first two problems. But now i'm feeling i've bought a dodgy car. I have spoken to head office customer services and the guy in charge of Lexus croydon. I am wondering what I should do? Ask to find a totally different car? Or get it independantly checked and any issues fixed and ask for another year warranty in compensation? The customer service has been good so far - i can't complain. My gut feel is that this one was sold without being thoroughy checked and slipped through somehow. Your thoughts very much appreciated as I truely loved driving the RX for the brief time i had it. In fact i think it was more pleasurable than the 450h that they have loaned me ( please don't flame me). Cheers
  4. Hey peeps, Figured i'd try on here as i'm not having much joy with the dealer. Our SEL arrived on Tuesday and i've got some queries i raised with our dealer that i'm not happy with the responses of. 1) We had 3 warning lights appear on the dash yesterday (on 2 occasions) one included hand brake the other i forget but they were the same both times. Restarting the vehicle cleared the lights. 2) We live on a relatively steep hill. Our IS used to idle quite nicely on it without rolling back. This cars doesn't seem to like it so when we take our foot of the brake to accelerate we roll back quite quickly. The dealer tells me this is normal. 3) When we purchased the car it had just been valetted. There was an odd smell which the dealer put down to cleaning products. 4 days on and the smell is quite strong and a friend reckons it could be mould. It's a strong smell when you enter the vehicle but fades within seconds. Each time i get in the car it's just as bad. We bought it from Lexus Croydon and the entire sale was a bit awkward as on the day the car was due to be delivered the guy we did the deal with was away. He hadn't seemed to hand over to anyone so they hadn't planned to deliver it. They also hadn't dealt with the few issues we had requested. That being said the sales guy standing did get the entire thing turned around in the morning and the car was delivered by 2pm. Just wondering if you guys have any advice. I love the car - it seemed like a good purchase and will be happy if i can get the above sorted. However, i worry i may have bought a dud. Being that i purchased from a lexus dealer i'm sure i have the right to return it if i'm unhappy. though i'm not sure of my rights right now and don't want to leave it too long. It may be i can hand this back to the dealer to rectify. these items. Or am i on my own? I'm sure the electronics issues will be covered under the warranty. Just don't want this to be the start of a long long headache where i'm forced to purchase further warranties to cover potential problems. Cheers in advance. Sorry for the waffle - we have just had a baby and my mind is like soup at the moment. Yimpy
  5. they are not far from me at all. i'll give them a try tomorrow thanks :) i popped to costco tonight and picked up a parrot slim (plug n play). awesome bit of kit for under 50 squid. voice recognition is spot on. i may settle for this and opt for the vais kit people are raving about for ipod/mp3 playback
  6. something about the amplifier in the mark levinson unit. both halfords and a local in car specialst said no. i spoke to parrot uk and they said it's possible but requires specialist knowledge. i just tried the hifi and it doesn't play mp3's on cd - so i'm a little miffed. any ideas gratfully received
  7. thanks for the reply noman i'll take a look. though my prime requirement is bluetooth for safety. i just came across this whilst googling and looks like it would coverboth my ipod and bluetooth needs in one hit. http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-fr.../parrot-mki9200 anyone had any experiences with this product good or bad?? i'm seriously tempted to go for the parrot mki9200, though halfords have told me they can't fit it to the RX as it's not possible. I may try to fit this myself if it's possible to get the full funcationality going through the car speakers. Is there good instructions floating around for removing the dash and stereo etc? car arrived this afternoon at home so very excited to get this done soon.

  9. Morning, I've not been on here for a long while. Was a happy owner of a 52 plate IS200 until Friday, at which time i part X'd it for a 2004 RX300 SEL with 39k on the clock. About a month ago our family grew to a total of four, so the teeny boot in the IS wasn't cutting the mustard. The RX300 is being delivered on Tuesday :) from Lexus Croydon My problem is that i understand the Mark Levinson audio system does not support bluetooth or ipod/iphone. Just wondering what people think a suitable bluetooth kit would be? Perhaps one of the Parrot's i see advertised everywhere. I'll probably try to fit it myself as i managed to fit my last Sony Ericisson B/T in my IS ok. I've been reading these forums and see the ipod kits people are raving about are about £200 all fitted which might be a bit expensive for me right now. Does anyone know if the Mark Levinson hifi supports MP3? If so i can probably live without an ipod kit and just get a decent bluetooth system My wife has an iphone 3G and i own an HTC Hero. thanks in advance :) Adam
  10. absolutely mean tail light (just couldn't remember the correct terminology). i'll give my local dealer call and see if i flash my loc members badge will make it any cheaper. cheers for the quick response. adam
  11. Good evening, I have a 52 plate IS200. Someone kindly caught the drivers rear corner whilst it was parked. They have done minimal damage. But the drivers rear headlight needs replacing and the bumper is scuffed and slightly dented. I'm wondering anyone can recommend somewhere to get the cover from and a rough price? Also same question about the bumper, though i'm thinking that we'll probably just touch it up. Thanks in advance. Adam
  12. got a couple of pics - how do i insert them into the thread? Thanks Adam
  13. sure thing - will do my best to get a couple of pics tonight. not sure how much it'll show though as it's all in neat and tidy without too much on display. also off topic is my gold member login totally separate to this login? (if so how would i get the little logo associated with this logon) Thanks Ads
  14. Hey peeps, This is my first post on here, as i picked up my first IS200 at the weekend. Hopefully you guys can shed some light on what i've got in my boot. The owner beforehand kindly removed the standard stereo and installed a Kenwood KVT 920DVD and a couple of screens in the rear headrests. There seems to be a Kenwood amp in the boot (think it's 5.1 amp) and additonally some kind of black box with loads of ports and cables etc. I'm hoping i can plug in a camera to aid with my lovely wifes reversing. Wondered if it'd be easy - and if the black box would be were i'd plug the video signal into. cheers in advance for any help. Adam
