  1. Sewells of Dallas, Texas have been used by myself and other members for LS parts. Contact Darrel Diller there for a quote. Cant find anything on Sewells Of Dallas on the net?. But found the one in LA, anyone have the web address for Sewells? Thanks again
  2. I need to replace some parts on my December 2000 LS430. The most urgent thing I need are the front brake sensor cables for worn pads (mine are wrecked after the pads wore down 5000 miles earlier than the dealer predicted following a service). Unbelieveably (or rather predictably) Lexus want £145.00 for the pair of cables + fitting. If anyone has a reliable site/dealer they buy from in the USA, where I could get these and some other bits (or knows of a car being broken up here in the UK) I'd be greatful..... Many Thanks
  3. THanks for trying but again they say they have not seen an LS430 to break, lots of IS's but not much else....
  4. I've got a note to myself sez 'Lexus Breaker at swiftsalvage@aol.com that you could give a call. (or 01903 856568. Good luck (envious of 430!) ← Ive just emailed them with alist of the bits I want, Ill let you know the answer, thanks for the info.
  5. Thanks for trying, but theyve gots loads of LS400's and Is's but no LS430's just looked, if anyone wants bits for those two then they are probably worth a try..
  6. Anyone know of a specialist Breakers likley to have interior parts for an LS430? I need a few of the panels that have been kicked to death (back of rear seats etc). Cant imagine theres a huge market for LS430 interior parts and cant seem to find any that are bing broken at the moment> Any ideas? Thanks
  7. Yup thats about where I am with it as well, seems that if you have a 2002 or later then chances are that a Toyota disc will do (if you can find which one) but any earlier and your stuck with Lexus discs. Still makes me mad that they are around 70% more expensive in the UK than in the USA though........
  8. AISIN AW Co are the manufacturers of the Nav hardware, their site lists their major customer as (unsurprisingly) Toyota. The name Lexus does not exist in Japan, theyre all badged Toyota so that explains that bit, but they dont make the discs or the upgrades, so were still looking for who actually does? The US site has nothing of interest on this either, but someone, somehwere must have a list of Toyota DVD upgrade discs and which Lexus models they will work in as that seem sto be the least cost option and highly likely to work. Ive seen loads of posts (not just here) eluding to this but no definitive answer and what works in what. Over £300.00 (thats over $500 for any yanks looking in) for an upgrade disc is appaling, and please dont tell me its cos it has ALL of Europe on it, that would make no difference to the cost whatsoever and is a meaningless gesture anyway, which serves to reduce Lexus's costs in not producing European Country specific discs, NOT adding any value for its customers. BMW & Merc both charge around £200 for theirs and most tellingly so do Toyota who have the same darn system in it. Hence Im looking for a better deal than rip-off Lexus UK want to provide.
  9. Its a DVD and in my PC it has no info at all regarding its origins. NO way do Lexus do their own maos so its got to be from someone else.
  10. Thanks but Ive checked a 2001 disc and its the same as a 2000, or at least the industrial estate I work on and the Motorway roundabout is still missing, so guess most of the rest is the same.
  11. I read somewhere that it was Navtec (known as Navteq) but their website update section does not have Lexus or even Toyota listed so it cant be them. Anyone got any ideas? I wanted to know to see if update discs were cheaper from them (as they are with BMW etc) If it makes any difference its for a 2000 LS430 Thanks
  12. Tesco for me, Tried about 6 people and Tesco were best. I paid £530.00 for an LS430 me and the other half to drive fully comp etc etc and that was with 10,000 miles business use.
  13. Yup, same story here, only took mine to a local garage who has a superb mechanic, cost me £65.00 less than Lexus quoted as well. That sensor is a common fault at around 70000 miles apparently. (according to Lexus Coventry - thats what they told my garage when they ordered the part --- yikes !!!) So much for faultless eh !! I looked up the equivalent part (even mondeos have those sensors by the way) for a BMW 745. (my last car) The part was £70.00 cheaper from BMW and the garage said it would have took an hour less to fit as the Lexus engine covers all had to be removed, which the BMW does not have..
  14. I have a 2000 on an X LS430 Premium Pack. Had it 3 months now. 73000miles, Silver, FLSH and never get more than 23 MPG as an average in a week though. The speed limiter kicks in at 157MPH on mine (M6 Toll Road late on a Sunday night). Which was verified by my RoadAngel speed display. It came with NO service history but I tracked all that down in a few weeks and 400 miles later over 2 weekends Id got a new service book and travelled to all the dealers who'd serviced it and got all the stamps !! Paid £16000 with 6 months warranty from an independant dealer. Had to get the drivers window runners fixed (not uncommon apparently) but the wheels were all refurbed in the price (why cant Lexus make wheels that dont rot?) and both side mirrors were replaced (again not all that uncommon). After 1 month the CO2 sensor failed, that was £260 fitted but the warranty took care of that. And a week later the double glazed offside door window got condensation between the glass, looked horrible, cost £245 but again the warranty covered it (after a fight !!). So far very happy with it, although the satnav is NOT as good as my last Beemers despite what everyone tells you. The lex at this age does not have postcode entry which is rubbish on a car costing £50k new, but the worst bit is that the voice is NOT through the sound system and at speed with the music up loud you cant hear it very well - and the DVD update discs are 2 X that of BMW (Ye Gods !!), but otherwise its great. No parking sensors was also very very mean of them I agree. Worse is that it has absolutely NO phone provision in it and its not Tiptronic - what were they thinking? - my mates got a 1999 Omega with satnav, standard fit parking sensors, and a standard fit sim insert integrated phone ! I mean if Vauxhall could do it ............ Leeds Lexus had done 3 of the services and they gave me a copy of all the work done at those (30k 40 k and 50k). I was surprised to see the amount of stuff it had needed over and above service items, door seals, a boot lock, aircon recharge and a dozen other bits, certainly puts paid to the stories that Lexus cars never fail !! Overall its a great car, I bought mine to see what all the fuss was about and Ill keep it 1 year as I do with all my cars, but the cost of ownership will be very high and that means its competing secondhand with lots of others out there and measured in that way (ie at the 5 year old level) and taking into account its "odd" looks and that repair list and my experiences of repairs, theres plenty of other stuff out there......you pays yer money and takes your choice......
  15. No Id filled up a few days earlier, but Ive taken the cap off and tightened it back again anyway, but no joy. Didnt get it from Lexus Im afraid and its out of warranty. The dealer I got it from will inevitably pay but just trying to sort it quickly without the 50 mile hike really...
  16. OK, 6 weeks into ownership and my 3rd fault has occured on my LS430. This time its the yellow engine shaped light on the righthandside of the dash (next to the cruise control ON light). The handbook says its either petrol filler not on or loose, no petrol at all, electronic transmission components or electronic throttle or "something else take to a dealer". The car drives fine no noticeable problems and Ive checked the levels and the filler cap, wondering if anyone has experince of this and are there a few simle things to try before the 50 mile drive to a dealer and again giving them an open cheque? Thanks
  17. The differences between a 2005 and a 2000 LS430 are minimal really. Buy the newest and lowest mileage you can afford really same as any car. There are people with intergalactic mileages, but try selling them on again, its not so much a reliability thing more a desirability thing, not many people want a car that has been to pluto and back so you have to give them away to sell them. They will go for hundreds of thousands of miles, but over 150k miles and they usually start to need suspension work and some geometry stuff. The wheels are painted by walt disney in the rain in Florida, so check they aint peeling. Front ends get stone chipped quite bad due to that "aerodynamic" shape. Only buy with FULL history which on an 430 needs to from Lexus or take around £3k off the price. Dont buy a black one, any colour but that or again old Mr Resale will bite you. Gold or Silver sell best. If its done over that 150k miles then as long as its been looked after by a specialist thats OK, but again take chunks off the price A for its mileage and B for the missing stamps. Mechanically they are pretty bullet proof if the history is perfect, search around and be prepared to travel, early ones with 70k miles can be had for £16k without much trouble upto £52k for a new one......... Add £6k for Lexus dealer prices. So much depends on how many miles you will put on it really and how much you can afford to lose at resale, no different to any large luxury car. Mines done 73,000 and Ive done 10,000 of those in the last 5 months and no problems, Ive got all the history and printouts from the Lexus dealers since it was new and its had more bits than some other cars Ive had thats for sure, but nothing major, window seals, 4 sets of brake pads !!, numerous belts, and a couple of electrical items, a broken wire in the satnav speaker and a few other bits and bobs.
  18. *** I cant remember them all, and the order might be a bit messy but here goes: MK2 1600E Cortina MK3 2000E Cortina Triumph Stag MK2 MGB ragtop X2 Several 1600 Escorts and a lovely RS 4.2 Jag (7 year old and a rust bucket but I loved it) Lancia something (I forget) Sherpa Diesel Van (my job forced this one) Granada 3.0 Granada Coupe 3.0 Capri 2.8 BMW 3.0 Coupe Granada X 2.8 Transit Van (The job again) MK3 RS Turbo Escort (torque-steer a gogo) Porsche 924 Turbo Porsche 944 Turbo (got the bug for a couple of years) 455 Transam HO (killer power spent £5k on engine mods - going thru mad stage I think) Iroc Z (do a google search - look above and you'll see why) Merc 500SL (fab fab car but some tw*t rear ended it doing 40mph) Cosworth Sierra Sapphire (lasted 6 months before I had amassed 9 points so got rid) BMW 325 Nissan 200SX (get one if you see them cheap enough then you'll understand !) BMW 535 BMW 735 Omega 3.0 (mistake I admit it) BMW 540 (this one ended my love affair with Beemers) Mitsubishi Galant 2.5 (dont even ask!!) Merc 500 SL ( again, but Ive still got this one - so far ) Jeep Grand Cherokee (Best town car Ive ever had and also the worst car over 40 MPH a great shame that one) Nissan Skyline (like the 200SX you just gotta drive one to understand) Merc 430 SLK And finally a Lexus LS 430 Ive also missed at least half a dozen out now I look at the list, but you gotta stop this somehow And yes I am older than them there hills. And yes I am a confirmed planet killing petrol head (anyone want the list of bikes as well?-)
  19. Thankyou, Ill try that in the morning... Let you know the outcome. By the way, does yours have postcode entry? mine only has telephone number entry but of the 20 or so Ive ever tried it doesnt have them stored (and 1 or 2 were large public buildings so dont know what numbers must be in there) Thanks
  20. HI, 2001 LS430 DVD based Nav system. How on earth do you check the version of disc thats in there, the manual doesnt say anything about getting it from the display itself and the unit is bolted in the boot behind the chassis member so the DVD door wont open unless you unbolt it all and take it physically out first. surely thats not the only way is it?. seems so badly designed that I cant believe they would do that?
  21. This isnt the answer you may have been looking for but if you call into a Lexus dealer and get them to have a look they will tell you whats wrong, and then you can decide if you want to pay them or just do it yourself, \often they will diagnose over the phone. Me personally I have used a local Auto Electrical Co where I live for any such problems and have for aound 15 years now and they fix ANYTHING electrical on any car, usually with no fuss no rip-offs. If you live near me (northampton) I can give you the number if your interested or there will be a similar place in most towns I would guess.
  22. If anyone has upgraded their LS430 disc I would be happy to their old one for a sensible price, as long as its 2004 or later..
