  1. On Tuesday my RX450h was picked up by the supplying dealership for it to undergo some cosmetic paintwork which wasn't done during PDI. They left me a brand new CT200h with 135 miles on the odometer registered on Monday.. I signed the paperwork in a bit of a rush as I was out working when the car was delivered. I didn't need the car on Tuesday but Tuesday evening when checking the paperwork I realised that it was possible to buy CDW to reduce the £1000 insurance excess. As I was getting up early Wednesday morning I emailed the Salesman and the Business manager requesting the extra cover at 6.30am. Murphys law then took hold. Lunchtime i was on a newly resurfaced road 70 miles from home when traffic coming the other way flicked a small chipping onto the windscreen. Bang -the screen chipped but worse it then cracked for a good 12 inches across the middle of the screen. I called the garage to be informed that they hadn't done anything about the CDW as it could only be added when I took possession of the car not after. The upshot is that the excess for glass unlike a normal policy is the full amount of £1000. It was suggested it would be better to get a screen fitted locally (the dealer is over a 100 miles from me) as it would mean I had a car for the next week and would cost less. Well My local dealer got me a screen and its booked for fitting tomorrow. The screen is £300.08p including vat , but the extra clips and fittings needed to install make the total £447.86p The fitting charge is a further £108 making a grand total of £555.86p......................... Now worried in case anything else happened to the loan car i spoke to my own insurers. They have put the car on my policy for £16.80p for a week and there is no windscreen excess and my own £250 excess will apply in the event of a claim.
  2. Anyone interested in estimating the damage on our car by any chance? Pls don't ask what happened, but we're at fault and it wasn't me . The other car (a neighbour) looks much worse, hence we'll probably have to go through insurance anyway. I've read a thing or two in other posts and understand if going through insurance you'd have to go with their repair centre. Different opinions on this as well, I know, but these would still have to use Lexus components (e.g. underrun, bumper) in case of needing replacement, right? Grateful for your thoughts. And for the insurance experts amongst us, apart from losing out of a year's no claims bonus, what would be the longer term (financial) implications as you'd still have to report any accidents up to 5 years when applying for quotations.
  3. Hi Is it normal for the drivers seat side wing to wear on the leather? It’s done 57k miles and I assume it’s standard wear but wondered if anybody else has anything to add to this? Shame as it’s gorgeous leather.
  4. Had the car since Feb and some nutjob crashed into me yesterday. The other guy was a complete tool, absolutel blamed me for everything and flurried the personal insults at me. My first crash I've ever had since I started driving in 1986 so I'm pretty annoyed about it. I am going through insurance but they have warned me that roundabout incidents are nearly always considered a "Shared Blame" so both parties are at fault. I've attached a schematic and a picture of the damage. I've also written a full statement of what happened. I don't want to let this drop and accept shared liability but with no previous experience of claiming, does anyone know what else I could do to help prove my case? Car is being inspected by a body shop in three days time, damage is to the wing, wheel, bumper and door mirror, mostly cosmetic and could by fixed with a few bangs, sand & paint.
  5. Our Lexus has suffered greatly at the hands of others. Mostly of the supermarket dent and scarper variety. The most recent event happened on the road. Someone reversed into it and when realising that it was his word against my wifes word claimed that the lexus had run into the rear of his stationary car. The result is partial loss of no claims and total loss of excess on the insurance. I would estimate the overall out of pocket cost to be well in excess of £500 for such a barefaced lie on the part of the other driver. I have now invested in a crash cam for each of our cars since it would seem the the insurers just aren't interested in fraud without being spoon fed easy to digest evidence and neither are the police. I wonder how long it might be before Lexus fit one of these little crash cam gems as standard to the front and rear of all their models. In the meantime, I would warn you all that the fraudsters are out there and they are after your insurance payouts one way or another either by organised crashing or opportunistic try ons such as my wifes recent experience. In the mean time, as well as the fraudster getting away without losing his no claims since his vehicle sustained minimal damage, the insurers will get away with charging me more for insurance for the next five years. Everybody wins except the innocent party! ( those of you who might think it reasonable that I should have my payments increased for this by the insurers could consider that I have been paying for insurance on a regular basis for cars and motorcycles for over 40 years without a single claim against my insurer. Imagine the amount of my money they have already collected during that time)
  6. Had the car out yesterday, and managed to reverse into bench that happened to be bolted into the ground! Anyone think the damage is repairable or do you think its a new/used bumper i need? There is a split in the bumper which isn't visible from the Photo.
  7. Last weekend I went to visit a friend in Royal Leamington Spa. Parked my IS200 in a council car park and came back to find out that some scrote/s decided to Starsky & Hutch it all over my car ! The roof is warped though I have managed to pull 3 of the major dents out myself, but I've got 6 very visible flaws in the roof now, they also rolled over the front of my car scratching the bonnet and nearside wing also denting the bonnet in two places in the process, one of them right on one of the folds too. To add insult to injury they even ripped off one of my roof strips - the :tsktsk:! The police are checking the CCTV in the car park but I’m not holding my breath for them to be able to actually ID the blighter/s. Took it to Lexus Stoke (my local dealership) but the price they were asking for was > £1000 and would mean an insurance jobby, which I’m really not keen on doing as I don’t have protected no claims. So I’m getting it done at an independent bodyshop in Fenton which was recommended to me by a couple of mates. I’ll post some after pictures when it’s been filled and re-sprayed. Really not a happy bunny right now though :megaangry:.
