  1. Hi All, Can I get some opinions on tyres to put on my IS300h. I currently have Dunlop Maxx RT on all corners as I did not like the firm ride from the original Bridgestone's. They're not bad, but I find they wear a little quicker than other tyres I have had and they suffer from crawing (I think its called when it slides on the edge of the tyre when you full lock). I'm currently considering: - Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 - Bridgestone Turanza T005 (which I believe are new and softer than the previous Turanza's I had) Any feedback/opinions, would be great. Also, my car is an F-Sport. Front wheel tyres are 225/40/R18 rears are 225/35/R18 and are much more limited in choice and more expensive than fronts. Does anybody know if you can use 225/40/R18 on the back as well or it will cause issues? Lastly, I need to change a TPMS sensor. Lexus have quoted me £86 for the one ands my mechanic can program for another £40. Has anybody used a non Lexus sensor and did it work ok? Or should I not risk it? I find their parts are exceptionally expensive. It's £210 per sensor supplied and fit at my local Lexus dealership. Cheers, Ken
  2. I had my car serviced, all was good apart from the tyres which will be due for replacement soonish. Currently running Bridgestone Duelers 235/55 R19 all round. These are fine, apart from some mild torque steer. The rears have plenty of life so only need 2 front tyres. Cross climates seem to be popular, any other recommendations? The Continental Sport Contact 5 and Dunlop Sport Maxx RT, appear to have good reviews, can anybody here provide any feedback on these tyres? Thanks in Advance
  3. National Tyres currently have an offer available that could make a set of CrossClimates, or any other Michelin tyres for that matter, something of a "bargain". (Quotation marks since they're amongst the most expensive tyres on the market) It's actually been running for a while so this may be old news to some, but since the deal is due to expire in a little over a week, I thought I'd deliver a heads-up. I've personally taken advantage of the deal and ordered a set of CrossClimate 2 for my IS. They'll be fitted next Friday. With the discount code applied, the price for 4 18" tyres incl fitting was £499. Significantly cheaper than anywhere else. Cheaper even than buying loose tyres and having them delivered.
  4. Hi, I'm new to the Club, and new to car ownership in fact. In other words, amateur hour here. I bought a 15 plate IS 300h Advance in April with 58k on the odo. In part it was sold to me on the strength that it had 'excellent' tread depth, which was one of my main concerns in general when looking at cars. The dealer sent me a video of the car and demonstrated with the front right the excellent condition of the tyre, zooming in on the treads, and just casually showed the rest. When I received the car, I walked around it, looked at the front right (why of course), and saw they presented it in a nice condition - although the body and windows had dozens of small chips and imperfections, I expected that much. Because it was a Lexus dealer, Lexus Exeter (Snows), which is generally well-regarded even among Lexus owners, and also because I'm a rookie, it never occurred to me that the other tyres might be old. Which they are, just realised today. Worn, cracks along the grooves. Also, this means that the front axle has mixed tyres with different characteristic due to make and age. Is that even legal, and even if so, up to good standards? I'll raise this with the dealer but would also like to ask for your input here. What's my legal position here? Why would only be 1 tyre replaced? Might this imply something, some issue with the axle? Now I'm asking myself what else did I miss, and if I should take it to an independent checkup? How much is that roughly? Thanks for any help, Daniel
  5. Good morning all, I was on the look out for some Michelin Cross Climate+ tyres to replace my Yokohama fronts and Nexan rears. The rears have only covered 10k but want to replace all four together as the Michelins are obviously an all weather tyre. Anyhow, Kwik Fit are currently offering 10% off a pair and 15% off four. You can also claim some free Michelin Wireless earbuds if you are that way inclined. So a set of four for my CT200h just cost me £415.70 including a £5 charitable donation for a children's cancer charity. The discount worked out at £63.30 and they are due to be fitted on Wednesday morning. I also went through Quidco in case I manage to also succesfully snag the £17.16 cashback which has so far been confirmed as tracked. Just posting in case anyone is considering fitting these tyres to their Lexus in time for winter.
  6. Hi All I hope this request does not annoy too many of you. I am almost down to the indicators and even I am not driving much I need new tyres on my 2012 RX450h. It came with brand new Scorpion Verdes and I hate them. They ride like train wheels (yes the tyre pressures are OK) and are rubbish in the wet. I was thinking about winter tyres - I had them on my last 430 and they were great. Any suggestions? I will entertain all weather suggestions but am not very keen. I should not complain too much about the Scopions - they have lasted ages and I get 30mpg if I don't drive like a hooligan. The wet performance is my biggest complaint. Cheers Bren
  7. Hi, changed the tyres on my NX to four Michelin Cross Climates and what a difference they make. Road noise greatly reduced and rides a lot smoother over rough roads. Has completely changed the the way the car rides and drives, well impressive...
  8. Hi All, It's time to change the tyres on my Lexus IS300H. I have tried to have a research on the differences between Run-flats and standard tyres however I haven't found anything that's conclusive. Does anyone have any experiences on using the different types of tyres and if so what would your recommendation be? TIA, Shy
  9. Tyres are a common topic for questions and debate regardless of your Lexus model. Anyway, I thought this might be interesting/useful as we approach the end of the Summer. It's a good watch imho. Tyre Review Summer v Winter v All Season The same chap did a big review of 'regular' tyres which is also interesting (if you like that kind of thing!). No surprise from me to see him rate Falken so highly - I've used them for years (although can't get the size for my NX) and they have always performed superbly for me. Multiple brand tyre review
  10. Hi All, I was hoping to get a recommendation on tyres to use on my 2014 IS300h F-Sport. Took it for service at Lexus over the weekend and one of my tyres is quite worn on the inside. Booked it into Kwik-Fit and used their tool to find the correct size based on make and model (225/40/R18 Bridgestone Turanza T005 good for the front and the back per their tool). Turns out that's wrong (should have checked the wall) for the back they're actually 255/35/R18 and the ones I currently have are Bridgestone Turanza ER-33 with a nice protective lip to protect from curbing - the T005s do not have such an advantage. The ER-33 are on all my wheels currently with a slightly different size on the front. I can order them and they can fit it but it will cost about £100 more than the ones that were previously suggested which isn't too bad (but not great). My issue however is that they seem to be terrible tyres from the ratings - F for efficiency, C for wet and I've seen a few user reviews from different sites saying they are bad in the wet and common for aquaplaning. I've had my car almost a year and never experienced any issues but now thinking is it worth spending so much on what seem to be terrible performing tyres (mainly in the wet) with the only plus point being that they are hard wearing? May favourite tyres of all time are the Good Year Efficient Grip (but they don't seem to be produced in this size). So my question are: 1. Should I stick with the ER-33s as they may be better than suggested in the reviews for people who have IS300h and have used them longer than I have? 2. Or should I change and if so can anybody suggest an actual tyre to go with which has the protective lip over the alloys as well? I need to change the tyres quite quickly and get it booked in before the weekend (MOT) so quick responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot, Ken
  11. Just a 'Heads Up' that this promotion starts on Monday at participating dealers.Well worth investigating if you need tyres in the next 2 months. My local tyre dealer Chris Mullins in Gloucester is doing the promotion, as are Protyre (Un) Fortunately my wife's Fiat 500 was MOT'd yesterday and has advisories on tyre wear for the fronts. She only does 3-5,00 miles a year trubndling the grandkids around and I was going to put a set of medium priced all weather tyres on it (Nexen , Yokahoma or Pirelli), but Chris is doing the Michelins for £90 each (cheaper than Black Circle) and with the £25 cashback I am more than happy to pay the extra for the known quality of Cross Climates (had them on my last RX gen 3 and they were fabulous. The Promotion will issue a prepaid Mastercard or a direct bank transfer to the value of: £10 for two or £25 for four 14” and 15” MICHELIN car, van or 4x4 tyres purchased, £15 for two or £40 for four 16” MICHELIN car, van or 4x4 tyres purchased, £20 for two or £50 for four 17” and 18” MICHELIN car, van or 4x4 tyres purchased £40 for two or £100 for four 19”
  12. Hi has anybody taken out and used the dealer offered insurance for tyres and alloys. What was your experience like, was it worth it. Seems expensive to me.
  13. Folks New to the Lexus forums, having only recently bought a 2015 RCF. Starting to get used to the car but have noticed that the back end is light and wondered how it copes with the winter roads given it has a lot of weight up front and a lot of torque in the back end. Are winter tyres a good investment with the RCF, any views would be appreciated. Richard
  14. Hi All, I need some new all seasons rubber for each corner for my 06 GS450h, however I've heard the TPMS modules can be very delicate and easily broken by tyre fitters, I've had a look around the form and see mention of a 'fitting kit' 04423-02010 but I don't see this PN listed anywhere on Lexus or Toyota parts sites or ebay, although I haven't called Lexus service centre yet I guess that's the right place to find them Also is it worth just going to Lexus to get the tyres fitted, I'm assuming they would know the right procedure to replace without damaging the sensors? Thanks Dan
  15. I have been reading various post and comments on tyres, the good, the bad and nexen for the CT and i have always disliked the stock lexus tyre. However just a FYI these Michelin tyres are amazing in the dry (hea (26 degs) and brilliant in the wet. If its snows this winter i will update the post. The car is now silent. and sure footed like never before. 1. no road noise, 2, stops better, 3. in rain it feels glued to the road 4. i am sure in the ice and snow they will be just as good. - no more snow socks Yeah!! Just my view... These ALL weather tyres on the CT are the way to go. Highly recommended. Mark
  16. Hi, been reading something a little disturbing on the internet about tyre wear in relation to 'automatically-engaged 4WD systems' - specifically, the need to ensure similar tread depth front to rear in order to avoid breaking the 4WD system. The item referred specially to the Kia Sportage - does anyone know if this advice also applies to my recently-acquired RX450h?
  17. Hi all Driving along a new stretch of super smooth motorway the other day at low speed due to traffic. The car was rolling as if one or more wheels was oval, very bouncy and very un Lexuslike. Jacked each wheel in turn and checked wheel bearings and for running true, checked tyre pressures and wheel nuts but at a loss. Any ideas from you gurus? Regards Mike
  18. I see in the online brochure that the F Sport and Takumi models come with run-flat tyres as standard... Any comments on how this affects the ride and comfort? My wife's mini has run-flats and the ride is pretty harsh, although I accept that this could be due to the suspension than to the tyres themselves. They are also a lot more expensive to replace than "standard" tyres.
  19. Well 75 miles from home on the coldest day of the year jump into my car which has Been parked for 1 1/2 hours to find the TPMS light on and 4tyres showing 2.4 bars and one 1.9. Now the car was serviced on Monday so it's all a bit odd. Bearing in mind the wheels were refurbished about 3weeks ago. Pull onto a nearby Asda forecourt and pump all tyres up to 2.5bar. It's snowing and 1 degree. Drive on M54 to Shrewsbury a 20 minute drive and now 3 tyres are 2. 6 Bar and one is 2.4 bar. Decided to ring Cheltenham Lexus who advise me to call in. Arrive there at 3pm and car taken straight into workshop. 2hours later the news- The refurbished wheel on the rear nearside is leaking air around the valve . They have removed some excess paint but it still isn't sealing. They have managed to seal the leak using a standard valve. The car is booked in on 15th for the wheel to be refinished and I'm having a loan car. I shall be keeping a very close eye on the pressure in that tyre during the interim period as the TPMS light is constantly on now. I suspect that checking the pressures at service was enough to make the leak apparent. Hey Ho.
  20. Well 75 miles from home on the coldest day of the yeayI jump into my car which has Ben parked for 1 1/2 hours to find the TPMS light on and 4tyres showing 2.4 bars and one 1.9. 21. I noticed that there are a few topics on here relating to tyres for the NX. I've done 28,000 miles now on the original Yokohamas so decided I had better start doing some research. The consensus seems to be that the Michelin Cross Climates are a sound choice but I had a slight panic as availability seemed to be an issue for some forum members. I went down to my local ATS and they said that they could get the tyres that I wanted tomorrow and as there is a deal on they would be £150 per tyre. If you look on the website you could be forgiven for thinking that Michelin doesn't do a tyre for the NX as everything is listed except those. I'll be getting four cross climates fitted next week. There is loads of life on the rears which is a shame but I will be happier with some decent tyres
  22. I've just bought a 57 plate RX 400h with 112,000 miles and an impeccable service history of ten main dealer stamps. I love the drive but am surprised and disappointed about how much road noise there seems to be. There is a constant 'whooshing' noise as soon as you go faster than 20 miles an hour. The tyres on the front are brand new Falken Azenis and there are two good Bridgestone Potenzas on the rear. I'm not sure whether the noise is the tyres but it seems a good place to start. I can't detect anything wrong with the door or window seals but it definitely sounds like more noise is coming into the cabin than you would expect. The nearest analogy I can provide is that it sounds a bit like the noise you get in a fast train because of the air pressure. Am I expecting too much from the car in terms of its quietness? I would be very pleased if some more experienced drivers of these cars could let me know what is normal.
  23. I'm starting a new thread for my Winter tyres (Bridgestone Blizzaks) now that they're fitted so I can post on-going observations as - and when - we have some cold weather. Lexus Swindon fitted them today to my spare set of wheels which were previously provided as a goodwill gesture by Lexus UK. So, my NX Luxury went in with standard silver wheels and came out with black wheels from the pre-facelift NX Sport. I quite like the change of look...😀 I also had new valves fitted so that going forward I can just bolt the wheels and tyres on and off as the seasons change. I only do c8k miles a year, so with two sets of wheels and tyres I should be good for 5 years plus. All we now need to do is sort out the TPMS which activated on the drive home - and won't re-set for some reason - and wait for some ice and snow to see how these tyres perform. They are well reviewed online, and available at a good price from Oponeo (£116 per tyre).
  24. So needed new boots on the front. The rears probably had about 1k left on them but decided to get them all changed at the same time. The rears have lasted about 30k miles (Avon ZZ5) and the fronts around 40k (Bridgestone Potenza's). Went for some Vredestein Quatrac 5's. Went with all season tyres this time to hopefully keep me out of trouble this winter (didn't want the hassle of switching to winters, etc. so please lets not start that debate!). Anyway, went with Blackcircles in the end and had them fitted by local ATS folk: https://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/brands/vredestein/quatrac-5 Lets see how I get on...
  25. Hi All, I need 4 tyres and have been doing a lot of research but need some advise as I am on a budget. currently I have Bridgestone Potanza all round. Now I have seen Avon Z7 - front 65 (225-45-17) each and rear £95 (245-45-17) however I have also seen Debica tyres which are made by Dunlop and very affordable so can make a saving. Anyone have any advise if Debica is good? My preference is A for Wet and at least C for fuel in terms of ratings. Also another option is going part worn with good thread at about £45 per tyre for a premium brand. Any advise please and any good sites as I have seen BlackCircles, ATS, TyreGuru and TyreLeader. I have about 4mm still left on my set. Thank you 😊
