  1. Hi all, I had an issue with my 2013 is300h causing my air con to delay start while running some diagnostics in the background when I try to turn on the vehicle. This wasn’t the end of the world and was happy to live with it but then the cold air became warm. I was told the Gad needed to be recharged and so I brought it to have this done in a local auto air con specialist. He was happy to tell me it was holding Gad but there seemed to be another issue and they continued to diagnose for an hour and half. Then he came to me saying that they found the issue, the air conditioning amplifier. I got a replacement part and brought it back to the him. They then fitted it and explained it still didn’t resolve the issue and that they would need the vehicle for 24 hours. It now has a new error when started: ‘Check Grille Shutter System’ This error keeps popping up after you clear it, so it is pretty annoying. So, I have the replacement amplifier fitted and I would like to try the old one, just to see if it will get me back to the original issue, of just the diagnostics check and not the ‘Check Grille Shutter System’ I am finding it really hard to be without the car for a day as I have school runs to drop/collect three kids. Does anyone know the location inside the car of the Air Conditioning Amplifier, so that I can swap back to the original part? many thanks in advance
  2. Hi, Every time I service my IS300h, they suggest I service and re-gas the air conditioning, its required every 2 years they say. I usually resist, but after having the car for 3 years and not knowing when it was last done, I got it re-gassed at my last service in Feb. As the weather was cold I didn't really notice anything, but now its warming up I have noticed that having the temperature set to 20 degrees on auto(which is where it was last summer), the car still seems hot. I have to manually adjust it done to about 18.5 to feel cool. Mentioned it to the guy I deal with at Lexus and he said oh that's normal, he outs it done to lo when he gets in and then adjusts later? I've never done that with a car that has auto climate control. I usually set a temp and it adjusts to it. It blows out cold hard for a while and then settles down when it reaches the desired temp and just maintains. Currently at sub 20 degrees the car still feels warm. Not sure what they have done or if they are using different coolant now for some reason but the performance shouldn't be worse than it was pre service should it? If I've got it wrong please let me know, but climate control should adjust itself right otherwise what's the point? I'm supposed to take it to them to see on Thursday but I'm almost thinking what's the point? They'll probably just tell me its normal and to turn the temp all the way down then up again. Cheers, Ken
  3. As we are having such a heatwave I needed to use the aircon this weekend, firstly I was surprised to see the aircon was already on (seems like it's on by default and the only way to turn off is via menu? Surely there.a button or something simple?) The main issue even at LO the air was not cold - I can see from receipts that the aircon was refilled July 2018 so I cannot imagine it would be out already. Is there some trick or do I have my first issue?
  4. Hi guys, So I hadn't initially noticed, but after having passengers in the back of my 2006 is250 today I noticed that the air con (or heating for that matter) doesn't seem to be working, I have nothing blowing out of the rear air vents, I wondered if anyone else had a similar problem that they had managed to fix? It works fine on the front, if anything it's not ice cold like my old 3 series was and more on the warm side, but when I bought the car none of the controls were working due to a faulty mark Levinson unit, so I put this down to it needing to be regassed Regardless, I still have air coming through the front air vents, heated and ventilated seats work fine, but nothing in the rear. All controls are working on my my new Mark Levinson nav unit and surrounding heating controls albeit the touch screen is a pain to use, and I actually never use it for navigation because it seems so outdated and takes so long to input addresses and locations in, using a phone is a lot easier, maybe outdated firmware that needs updating? Not even sure if updating will.make a difference but the thing just feels a bit old and tired, even the interface, I also have no clue why the car was listed as a MM from stock as it has no DVD function, I'm assuming the MM stands for Multi Media, do some of the ML systems not have the DVD function? Went a tad of subject but these are a couple of issues going down at the moment for me and thought I'd put them out there to see if someone can give me some pointers 😀 Thanks guys, - Mitch
  5. I noticed on my display that the AC option was flashing on and off today. I pressed it once (OFF), pressed it again (ON) and it stayed on. Will need to keep an eye on it... ( I should check the small green window too. )
  6. As I've had my 2014 GS300h for just a year now, I thought it was time to get a 6 year/'60000 mile' service at Lexus Stockport last week. This is the first time that I've had a car of my own serviced at a garage for the last 50-odd years, apart from first services for the odd new car. But I've decided that I'll get my GS serviced professionally for a few years at least. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with Lexus Stockport - eagle-eyed mechanic spotted a tiny split in a wiper blade and an object in a rear tyre, both of which had probably been missed at the MoT (local garage) a couple of weeks before. The car has actually done 41K miles, so I asked for an 'Essentials Major' service (with nothing to be added without consultation). (£415) The only real difference between that and a full-on Major Service is changing the spark plugs. They did recommend that (I suppose Lexus tell them to push it) but the fact is that the plugs in that engine do not need changing at 41K - they just don't - they are good for 60K plus at least. That saved £250 more or less - a set of plugs (4) can be had for about £60 and changing them on the 300h is a doddle compared with a 450h - I'll do them myself around 60K. They wrote 'No plugs' in the service book. Wipers - the original wipers are Denso and I've deduced that the blades are Denso DUR-065R and DUR-045R. By ordering those codes you can save a few quid compared with buying Lexus ones and they are identical (with some minor design changes since 2014). They are fitted to several different cars. If buying, make sure you get the genuine Denso ones - a search brings up many 'equivalents', not all of them even hybrid - once Denso had the hybrid thing all to themselves but now several other manufacturers make them - eg Valeo and Heyner. You don't save much in the grand scheme of things by shopping around, but hey, you've beaten the system! A pair of blades are available on Lexuspartsdirect - bizarrely a pair are cheaper than the drivers side alone, but postage brings them up to more than I paid on eBay. There was a metal object in a rear tyre fairly close to the inside edge (see pic) - the mechanic reported that the tyre was punctured and the object could not be removed without losing air and it could not be repaired (too close to the edge) - tyre condemned. But when I got home I thought I might as well see what happens so I pulled it out - surprisingly easily. Turns out it was a horrible inch or so long metal spike - looked like part of a tool (screw extractor ?) or something - anyway it was in crossways across the tread and no deeper than the tread depth. So A OK - no air lost, the tyre appears to be OK -it's a nearly new Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 5. I did put the specified dose of PunctureSafe in it before extracting the spike - that is a gel you put in the tyre before any punctures occur - it is permanent and works well, and it can be used after a puncture, preferably putting it in before extracting the nail or whatever. It will ameliorate the effects if the tyre fails in the future. It's not a 'get-you-to-a-garage' type of gel. Advisories on the front tyres - they're pretty evenly worn but down to 3.5-4.0mm. One is original. I'll just keep an eye on them until they are 3.0mm or so. Despite that the 'quick check' wheel alignment showed the front toe was off the scale out of spec and the camber (on the original tyre wheel) was way too negative. So I booked in at Blink Motorsport in Winsford - they operate a 'latest and greatest Hunter Hawkeye Elite TD wheel aligner' (according to their website). The place is a bit chaotic and laid back, but they seemed to do a good job. Report and specs below. If you're in the Cheshire area and need a wheel alignment you could seek them out. Aircon - service recommended - so I had the system regassed at my local garage. I hadn't noticed any problem but it was about 120gm down (out of 570 +/- 50 gms spec) so worth doing. Passed the hybrid health check of course. Busy and expensive week but now everything is tickety-boo. Do most of you get your GS serviced by Lexus? Do you get them to fix any issues or take the car away, make your own decisions and diy or go to a specialist instead? Apologies for the long post, but hope it's of interest to someone!
  7. Hi all, does anyone know where I can get the high and low caps that go on the air con ends? regards Joel
  8. Hi all, so I had my aircon re gassed by a aircon specialist and even though the car has taken on the correct amount no cold air is blowing out. when I turn on the ac I can’t hear then any engagement like it us too before. Also my engine fans have stopped working could they both be related. The specialist will be back out Monday to use some software that Will isolate the aircon sides of things I was just wondering has anyone had similar issue? could it be as simple as a fuse? the compressor is new as it was replaced by Lexus Teeside less than a year ago. regards Joel
  9. Hi all, so my air con compressor has packed in and needs replacing, the noise it’s making sounds like metal vibrating around when the engine is on and the air con is off or on. I can see the pully has seized too. Car drives fine but sounds awful 😥 Has anyone had this issue and what was the cost to get it repaired. Have seen a Denso compressor on eBay £345 so not sure if that’s a good deal or not and get a garage to fit it? Regards joel
  10. My aircon compressor clutch isn’t firing on my RX300 2004. My clutch turns quite easily. The connection gets 12v when I switch the ac on then quickly switches off. I assume because the clutch doesn’t spool up. I’ve tried a direct feed to the compressor but it still doesn’t get the clutch to fire. I can only assume the coil is faulty, so if I can get a coil I will. This leads me to my question. Does anyone know if this coil is available anywhere? Also does anyone know what the three pins in the connection are? Before I purchase one I will be checking if it’s definitely blown.
  11. Hi folks, calling on your technical wizardry.... On Tuesday evening, I started my engine and it immediately started to hunt with a rev range of about 200. Drove off thinking it would clear as the engine came up to temp and it did. Today I noticed that my A/C light was flashing. I pressed it and immediately the engine began to hunt again. I turned off the A/C and the engine stalled. I tried it a few more times with the same result. Just to make my day I just handed £1100 over to Lexus to get my car through it’s MOT but that’s another story. Any thoughts? Should I be looking to replace my pride and joy. Best wishes to all. 12. On start-up I'm getting a diagnostic message 'Change aircon filter'. I've done this - the front filter was heavily occluded, the rear much less so - but the message remains. Is this indicative of a deeper problem?
  13. I have a Y plate ('01) Lexus IS 200 SE and have had an issue recently with the aircon system. My wife and I noticed a white mist/gas emission (?) coming into the cabin from the passenger side central vent. Then the aircon system showed remarkably less cooling ability. After about 20 mins, there was cooler air coming from the passenger side vent vs. the driver side central vent. At the same time, and when the air con is switched on in the car now, there is quite a high-pithced squealing noise from behind the centre vent console somewhere. I ran the air con with the bonnet up and the noise is hard to pinpoint but is aggressive enough for me to be quite concerned about it (albeit from a position of very limited knowledge). When the air con button is switched off, the noise disappears completely. Is there a belt or fan that may be causing this noise and the air con system to not function correctly? What was the white mist/gas emitted into the cabin when the noise first appeared and the air con system stopped working effectively? Currently, we have zero/very limited cooling from the system whatsoever. It is not noticeable either way really compared to how it should be. I have read a bit about this issue on other forum posts but not found the conclusive answer as to what it most likely could be. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/81830-air-con-compressor-clutch-pulley-bearing-a-positive-experience/ (??) Any advice or points of view would be greatly appreciated. I am in SW11 (London) and if anyone knows of a decent aircon specialist within about a 45 min drive (who wouldn't rip my face off having a go at fixing it) then I would be keen to get their contact details. I always prefer to go armed with some info as to what the most likely issue is from the clever folk on this forum first though. Many thanks in advance. Antony.
  14. Hi guys, Ladies My Lexus was involved in a rear side smash. Had to replace my sub frame and some other rods. On the day i went to get my car at the workshop the mechanic tried to start the car but according to him the battery was too flat and that blew the Alternator fuse. I don't know what they did before i arrived. Anyway, replaced the 120A fuse, car started, i was happy and I left. While driving I noticed my fuel light flashing and gauge showed empty. Put in R200 fuel but light still flashed and gauge still showed empty. Put on my radio and nothing happened. Came home, checked fuses and replaced one tha was blown. Radio now working but gauge still dead. Also found out that my TRC, SLIP and SNOw indicators does not work. Aircon dead. No light comes on when trying to demist rear window. Everything elsse works fine. Checked all fuses and they check out fine. Two sender units are fine (0 - 55 Ohms) What could the prob be. Did they mess up my computer? Please help Also not getting any voltage on my sender unit terminals
