  1. I need to change my 12v battery, preferably to a more powerful one than the OEM Panasonic version and am having a lot of trouble identifying suitable alternatives. I believe it needs to be an AGM battery. Has anyone changed theirs for a Bosch, Exide, whatever... and do you know what you bought?? Any assistance appreciated, thank you 👍
  2. Hey All, Thought i'd put this out here as it might help others as well or have similair experience with this error message. I tried to search but maybe i didnt find it in the search section or clearly misread ( most likley the later 😄) but it's not everyday the lexus gives me trouble ( in fact it hasnt for many years) but this message - Check VGRS popped up on my dash a few days ago after the car had not been driven for a few days (as the exhust driver side back box fell off!! thats another story, different post) in this cold weather. Well it was odd as the car unlocked and had some sign the battery had life but sterring rack didnt move nor the centre console light up, but boot opened and some lights on the dash worked (didnt check windows) so after I jump started the car - which btw i didnt know you could do from the under the bonnet too (untill I googled it) its been fine and running ok for a couple of days, checked with volt meter and its showing 12.1V so all looks and sounds good unless this is lower than expected, please do tell. I think i know what caused it, my daughter left the interior lights on and it must have been on straight for 3 days, as i said the exhaust fell off and i waited till the weekend so left the car on the driveway for a few day untill i could get the backbox off completely before driving it to exhaust guys. it is the original panasonic battery , is this an early sign i need to change it or did the fact the lights and cold weather casued the battery to delplete and by me jump starting it, its back to normal OR will i find randomly one day it just wont start? The original batteries are mega £££s - crazy prices. hope it helps someone and thanks in advance to my question
  3. Hello! So I've recently changed my car battery on my IS220D 2009 model, some of the memory was reset such as seats but no radio or nav was reset. However I have just noticed that the side door floor foot panels where the lexus logo would be is not lighting up anymore as well as the interior lights when u unlock the car or open the door as they would turn on but none of that is happening anymore.. Is there a quick fix/reset for this? Has anyone else encountered this before? I'd much appreciate any help on this thanks!
  4. Hi again everyone. Hope you had a good Christmas and that the new year is good, too. I have an issue with the (auxillary) 12 volt battery going flat when the car is standing. It's a nearly new battery, bit I am aware that a new battery can be faulty. I have fitted a battery isolator switch for when the car is left standing, which resolves things (in a rather unsatisfactory way!). I detect no parasitic drain on the battery when the car is resting. I haven't tested it yet with the alarm turned on, though... Which might be tricky to do, but I'm probably going to have to give it a bash. What I have measured is the voltage of the battery (12.5v), then left the car for a day with the battery connected and the alarm on, and measured it again... 12.25v. both measurements taken with the battery disconnected. According to a handy table I've found, this represents an estimated reduction in charge state from 90% to 50% in just 24 hours😵. Given that it's a 45Ah battery this is equivalent to a 750mA drain, assuming my calculations are correct. My hunch is a problematic alarm or a knackered battery. I will see if I can establish drain again tomorrow, but with the alarm enabled. Any other car, I would have fitted a more macho battery, but Lexus haven't provided enough space for one (on the basis that we don't need cranking amps on a hybrid). Any advice welcome.
  5. I need to replace the battery in my 206 IS250. Being skint, I'm keen to spend as little as possible! A quick look on eurocarparts suggests a couple of options: The lion 030 battery (https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/lion-030-car-battery-3-year-guarantee-444770301) or The lion 031 battery (https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/lion-031-car-battery-3-year-guarantee-444770311) I think I need the first one, and I'd be very grateful if anyone could just confirm for me please?
  6. Hi All Hoping for advice. I have Lexus Is220d 2007 model. Recently something is draining my battery but i have no idea what it is. Local garage checked drain, confirmed a significant drain on battery. Suggested i find auto electrician. After numerous online searches not able to find auto electrician in local area. Any ideas what may cause a drain or even a good auto electrician in Wolverhampton area. Thanks for any advice Kully
  7. Hey, just a quick question for you all. I'm pretty sure the battery in my key fob is on it's way out as it sometimes unlocks the car and sometimes doesn't (mainly in cold weather). The battery that's in it currently in a CR1616, or somethin along them lines, but it alot smaller than the hole where the battery sits in. Is this the right one or not?
  8. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for removing this wire from the positive side of the plastic surround around the battery. I can't seem to work it out. Is it the black bit actually on the plastic case I need to pry away See image below. Many thanks
  9. Hi I had my alternator replaced with a RTX back on August and I think it is failing again. Flickering lights, rough idle, battery light is flashing on and off intermittedly Does this all make sense? Anyway been quoted for a LUCAS alternator as the DENSO ones are on back order. Any one have any experience of these and whether they are worth the effort? Many thanks
  10. Flat battery on 2020 UX250h. I cant find a way to open the power back door to enable me to use a trickle charger on the flat battery. I've looked for the solution in the car manual on line but cant find the answer. Any suggestions?
  11. Hello All Has anybody here replaced the 12v battery on an RX450h? Lexus want £235, but have seen batteries from the fast fit places like ATS provide a battery for £90. Does the main dealer use a 'special' battery? Is it worth paying Lexus? Or will any battery be sufficient?
  12. Bought a 2007 Lexus last Friday SE L and love it. Drove all the way from Winchester to Stafford and back the next day. Then didnt drive it for four days. Car started and i drove 10 min to get petrol. After filling up, the car wouldnt start. Lights would come on but it would click click click... Anyway called the AA and eventually they came. Thought it was the battery but it seemed ok. So they think its the alternator... Is this what it probably could be?!!? They charged the battery a little , jump started it and my wife drove home. Any help gratefully received.
  13. An odd morning... Wife taking out dog in car (RX350). Her remote would not work, so she used her spare key. Then about 1 mile down the road, it did the thing it did about about 12-18 months ago, whereby it just speeded up. She tried braking, no response. She said she thought she was going to die. She managed to stop - though she can't really remember how - by driving into a side road with a hill. However it did, she stopped - in the middle of the road. She then rang me. First she rang the AA ( she had let it expire, Lesson 1 ), then she rang Green Flag ( she had the wrong/old number in her phone, Lesson 2 ), then she rang Green Flag on my phone ( correct number stored ) and found she had no cover. So... NO cover. I managed to get my daughter to collect me and drive to where my wife's car was, with my portable Starter - bought on Amazon and inspired by this Forum. I had bought one for my wife, but... the car seemed dead, would not start, starter was in the boot and the boot would not open - still won't. Currently charging the car, which I drove back home. So... those starters are great. It's a 3.5 litre engine. Started first time with my starter. ( It went down to 62% so I am charging that as well. ) I'll make sure they are not stored in the boot. Not sure why as yet it will not open. ( Lesson 3? ) So... it has happened at least twice now - accelerating without the pedal being pushed. ( I think it may be a known Lexus issue? ) I think she will probably buy a newer Lexus or similar as I think she is too scared to drive it now. Oddly, also when trying to open my Lexus RX300 - to get my portable starter - both my remotes would not open my car. Had to set the alarm off, quickly get the starter and then manually lock it again. An odd morning... and a scary one for my wife. PS. If anyone has any words of wisdom regarding opening my car, I'd be most grateful. Key fob batteries are recent, though I do have another spare I can try. Turning the key in the lock just sets the alarm off...
  14. Good afternoon all. I hope someone can help? I have had a look through the forum but could not find the answer to my question - Sorry if it is there...😇 So over the lockdown my battery kept dying and I charged it using a AGM compatible charger. Now that I am back at work and driving it normally i find that the battery goes flat every couple of days so definitely time to change the battery. I have found a battery but.... Does this vehicle have a Battery Management System that needs to be reset by a main dealer or is it effectively plug and play? Many thanks in advance! 😍😍 Roddy
  15. My car is IS250 2006 I found my car battery flatten on a weeks ago. After charged, I monitored the battery voltage everyday. It kept draining all the time. Today I just got a multimeter with 10 A current measurement capability. I measured the current in idle, car locked, all switch off, including my dashcam. Still got a idle current at 1.8A. which is reasonable for my estimation per voltage drop. I believe this is also the correct number during nights. I have check 4 out of 5 fuse box. pull out then plug in to see if the current changed. But not them. 2 out of 3 in engine room and 2 out of 2 in carbin. I wasnt able to located the box2 in engine room untill i got back home and check the manual. will test it tomorrow. below is the schematic for box 2. they are more for lights The battery is fine, i believe there is no issue with battery (tested charging/idle voltage and current, and i use the current to estimate its capabity, not seeing any issue.) Have anyone dignois similar issues like the one i am facing? any experienece will help. Thanks,
  16. Hi guys, my SC has been laid up for 4 weeks now so checked it this morning and found it wouldn't remote unlock so the battery is prob flat... doh! Before I unlock the door manually and set off the alarm, assuming it's still operating, how can I quickly disarm it once it starts? Key into the ignition? Or maybe wait till 8pm tonight so everyone thinks it's for the NHS??? LOL Thx :)
  17. Hi guys, I was showed in the service how my battery is totally unsecured you can just shake it by hand. But we do not know what part needs to be ordered. Anyone had this same issue, or know what I need to buy? Many thanks! Suzie
  18. Dear All, long time no post. I'm confused. As will become manifestly clear very soon, I'm not much a of a mechanic but the local Lexus garage want to charge me about £350 to supply and fit a new battery (I'm in Switzerland) for my IS 250 (2007/08). They did this previously, 3.5 years ago, and the battery has, they say, only a 3 year warranty so I'm not falling for that again. After reading and re-reading all the posts I can find, it seems I should be going for Bosch S4 026 Type 68. But here's why I'm confused -- every S4 026 I see has the positive terminal on the right: https://www.bosch-automotive-catalog.com/product-detail/-/product/0092S40260 and no mention of Type 68 (which everyone here says is the correct one) or Type 69 (apparently the wrong one). And I've seen messages saying don't get the S4 027 as the terminals are on the wrong side. OTOH, the Bosch site itself says that the correct battery for the IS 250 is the S4 027, and as hoped, the positive terminal is on the left: https://www.bosch-automotive-catalog.com/en/product-detail/-/product/0092S40270 BUT... both 026 and 027 seem to have the terminals at the front whereas mine has them at the back. Am I going nuts? My car has the positive terminal on the left. Is that the same as everyone else? If so, surely S4 027 is the correct one? But will the front terminal cause a problem? And perhaps a very stupid question, is the battery not a uniform shape i.e. can I not simply turn round a battery whose terminals are the wrong way round? Thanks for any enlightenment!
  19. Hi everyone, hoping you can please advise, my RX400h has developed a problem where the 12v battery is drained overnight. Started a month ago the alarm drained the battery completely.. my fault, down to like 7v with the multimeter measurement. After trickle charge back to 12.7v battery was fine for a month. Last week after the rain, I discovered puddle of water on driver side floor. Probably sunroof blocked. I unblocked now, but at the same time discovered 12v battery is completely drained, measured at 5.3v. Again I trickle charged for 3 days back to 12.7v. After re-charge car goes to READY state and drives ok with no warning lights. Parked up overnight. Next day battery drained again down to 7v. Not even enough to power interior lights. The battery is only 1 year old and its a lexus/toyota battery from the dealer. Any help would be appreciated on direction to solve this.
  20. Hi everyone. I have a Gen 1 GS300 and I'm having some issues with it. I put a post up previously about my car starting, running for a couple seconds and then cutting out. Also all the interior lights and gauges have stopped working. Initially the issue was that the alternator was not charging the battery and so it died. I have since had the alternator changed, unfortunately the 'genius' AA sent out to help me get the car home shorted out the battery. (Put positive terminal to negative) I'm completely lost as to what the issue is, the alternator has been changed, the car starts fine so I don't think it is the battery. I have changed the interior fuses for the 'Gauge' and 'Panel'. None of the electrics are working at all, sunroof, windows, steering wheel. Nothing. But the exterior lights do work. Also I noticed if I keep the key in the car for a few minutes it will refuse to start at all, take the key out, put it back in and starts no problem, but then cuts out again. I am reluctant to take it back to the garage because I just don't trust them anymore. Has anyone else experienced this before? I am really stressed out about this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Aamir
  21. Hi everyone. I am having an issue with my 1997 gen 1 GS300 Sport where the engine starts but immediately cuts out. It died on me right after getting my mot done. I was advised by the AA that it was my alternator that was not charging the battery. So I got the alternator replaced, put the battery on charge until it was full. Put the battery in but now the dash is not working at all, and the car immediately cuts out. When it died the first time it wouldn't even start, now it starts no problem but only runs for a couple seconds. I'm at a bit of a loss here as to what it could be. A new battery maybe? I'm not very adept with the mechanical stuff so any help is much appreciated. Thanks Aamir
  22. After I took the jack from the boot to raise the car to check into an O2 sensor problem I didn't close the lid completely. 7 hours later the battery was down to 6V, but it may have been low before. After recharging it I tested the current drain with everything off and the car unlocked. It was fluctuating between 0.83 and 0.87A, so something was varying the current. Using 0.85A every hour over a weekend would take its toll on this standard capacity two-year-old Toyota battery. After 4 days without driving I'd never been able to guarantee it'd start , either with the original or new battery. I never checked why as it seemed an inherent characteristic worldwide so I lived with it...but now I'm interested. Removing fuses one by one and only possibly finding what's happening isn't very appealing, so, did anyone come to a definitive solution?
  23. Hello everyone, my first posting here , so hope I get the format right ! Yesterday , after several years of fault-free driving of my GS450h , the engine management light came on, but the car continued normally. I drove it for 30mins. Several hours later , it started ok , everything appeared normal ( apart from the said engine mgmnt light) ,Then I heard an odd noise from the boot, and the exclamation triangle came on with the associated "check hybrid system" warning message. On the Energy/Consumption middle main display- 3 blue bars were indicated, flow arrows were moving around the engine/battery/electric motor/axles as normal, apart from no directional arrows out of the battery .I pulled over. Nothing appeared untoward at the battery site, or the other control box areas in the boot. I continued for 20 mins. 3 bars became 4 - then 1 ..... panic ! then the dash lit up like a xmas tree ! - engine died on me . A road-side recovery guy put diagnostics on it and said "the battery is not keeping its charge -it must be the alternator " - This car , I believe doesn't have one ! ??? Many other faults came up -not surprising as hardly any juice in the battery....I have sent it to my local Lexus$$$$ dealer , any thoughts ?? new battery ?? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
  24. My GS450h is an excellent car but I have one recurring problem. The boot comes open while its in the garage at home, leading to slow run down of the starter battery. The car is often in the garage for a week or so as its only used for longer journeys. Prime suspects are the keyfobs in my pocket and my wife’s handbag but our other car is rarely affected this way and the Lexus doors never seem to get unlocked this way. Could it be some strange wireless interference? There is only one other house within wireless range. i have removed the bulb from the boot courtesy light which has reduced the battery rundown if the boot comes open but the warning light on the dash still consumes some power. I have only recently discovered the luggage security button in the glove box which should prevent it happening again but putting stuff in the boot when going to the car is now a minor hassle! anybody else had this problem?
  25. I've bought a Bluetooth OBD dongle, and installed the Torque app on my android phone. Other than the immediate benefits, such as checking for fault codes (I have none!), I also hope to decode the PID information provided by the interface so I can check on hybrid battery health and so on. I'm having trouble finding a list of the codes for the RX400h. I have a spreadsheet I downloaded from PriusChat (which was the result of a long topic on there regarding the RX400h), but some of the values being displayed on the Torque app don't make a lot of sense, eg: Battery voltage -2800v. Has anyone got access to this information?
