  1. Hello, I have an is220d 08 model. Im having an issue with carbon build up. I had the car fully serviced and the EGR valve taken off and cleaned. The mechanic sent me some pics and it was properly clogged. Even the manifold inlet pipe was clogged. He cleaned the whole lot out and the car changed in how it responded etc. FYI for the better! The service took place in November so it hasnt been that long at all. The issue is, is that im having similar issues to what i was experiencing before I had the service done which is slow take off. Then when i hit 2500rpm it kicks in! But on hills if im in 2nd gear its not going anywhere. So im thinking that the EGR valve is blocked up again and needs a clean. I will do that this weekend, but wanted to know why it would get clogged up so quickly? The lexus garage (when i took it to them to reset the engine code) suggested it could be the EGR valve cooler?? Any ideas?
  2. My RC-F Carbon is arriving on the 17th, I have a couple of quotes from Confused and Admiral of c.£1,000 which is fine...but as all you guys have lived through numerous renewals and quotes I would be interested to know who you find to be cheapest. For comparison purposed I'm 40, a company director, zero points, 5 yrs no claims.

  4. Hi, I've had enough of other brands and remembering how reliable was my father's ES300 I decided to go for a budget Lexus. It's a GS300 from 2005 (I live in the UK, ES300 was imported). I read stories about people having the car over 200k miles and going strong, but there's lots of stories about carbon build up that scare the hell out of me (mostly US though). I have few questions: - for those who got into owning a GS300 that's potentially affected, did you regret your decision? - there are services that offer engine carbon cleaning - do these work? - I'd be using premium fuel, is it enough to eliminate the issue? The car I'm looking at is over 100k and the previous owner had it for over 8 years, so I assume it should be ok, but maybe he's selling it as it's out of warranty and he's started experiencing said issue, I don't know. There are no outstanding recalls on the car. It's the £305 road tax bracket - but I don't think the higher tax has anything to do with engine redesign that avoids the issue? After all, I just want a reliable Lexus. I'm going to go all the way south to see the car on Friday. I'll need to take it there and then or not. It will be covered with engine and transmission warranty for one year, but I understand these carbon build up issues are hard to reproduce, and from what I red Lexus dealerships avoided responsibility in the past by saying they couldn't reproduce the issue. I'd be more interested to see if regular engine carbon cleaning (yearly?) is a solution (I don't want to add cleaner to fuel every time I top up the tank)? Any other advice and tips will be appreciated! Thanks
  5. Hi Guys first time posting on the forum but wanted to share my experience. I have a 07 Is220d for almost a year now with 120k. I drive about 400 mile per week motorway driving. When I got the car it wasn't great so got it remapped. I then got it carbon cleaned through the air box and put some fuel cleaner in it to and still not great. Low revs poor. Couldn't get 40mpg no matter what I done. Monday night I decided to pull of the egr valve and it was totally blocked. The fuel cleaner and 1 hour carbon clean was useless. I soaked the egr valve in brake cleaner and also the steel pipe. Used a tooth brush to get as much carbon off the manifold. Put it all back together and I'm now getting 50 mpg at 75mph. Takes any gear at low revs. Different car. It took me about 2 hours and it's only 6 nuts. Hope this helps some of yous.
  6. ** UPDATED - New Photo's Added - 15th March 2013 ** Hey guys i've been busy in the past weeks wrapping my interior with carbon fibre wrapping... Motivation for doing this was to: 1) Make it look fresh and stylish. 2) The previous owner must have been a smoke, as they have tried to use touch up paint on the centre console... So really it was bugging me! 3) Couldn't find any right-hand side trim on the web... Except for the horrible wood effect!! 4) Lexus quoted £315 to replace the centre console!!! What I've done: 1) All 4 door panel control + the plastic cover inside the door handle 2) Centre console + Can holder + Ashtray 3) Key fob 4) centre vent Still to do (Work in progress): Air vents both side - I started to work on it but had to temporarily abandon this due to time constraint, still left the photo Possibly considering: 1) Steering wheel control (don't know if i have the guts to take that a part.. I'm scared the air bag might go off, will refer to Ahmed post on how to do it) 2) Silver trim that fits all around the edge of the speedometer instrument cluster panel 2) Overhead lights Attempted but abandoned: Tried to do all the small button panels i.e petrol, boot, snow, ect... Couldn't get the vinyl to stick to the surface as its not smooth! Total Cost for Project: £8 Obviously pictures can never do the same justice as see the actual thing for yourself but at least you will get the idea
