  1. Hi All, I was looking to install Dashcam for Lexus NX 300h 2015. Could you please share some thoughts about the Dashcams you use, please? I think I saw a Dashcam offer on the Lexus dealership but failed to ask for details at the time and the centre is now closed (Maidstone). Thank you, Kind regards Bill
  2. Today I installed (hardwired) a dual-channel Viofo A129 Duo into our GS450h Premier (with rear sunblind). This is a guide on how to do it, to save anyone else time figuring out the stuff I had to figure out. For starters, don't disassemble your boot! I used the Viofo 3-wire hardwire kit (to enable parking mode). For this you need 2 add-a-fuse mini-blade fuse doublers. Front Camera The front camera location is best near the centre-line. The GS screen curves, so anywhere off the centreline starts to point outward to the side instead of forwards. I placed the camera just to the left of the Rear view mirror base, as there's some sort of camera sensor on the right-hand side at roof level. Also our car has the AHB camera on the centreline. From there, the two (power supply and rear cam) cables go up into the roof console, mainly to put the ferrite on the power cable somewhere. From there they run across the top of the windscreen, tucked into the headliner, to the A-pillar. The A-pillar is where things get a little interesting - there's no way you can tuck the cable at the A-pillar (and you wouldn't want to tuck across the top of the a-pillar anyway, as that would interfere with deployment of the curtain airbag). It is necessary to remove the A-pillar trim. Pull outwards at the top and it will come loose, but held by a captive clip (designed to prevent the trim becoming a missile when the curtain airbag deploys). You release this with a pair of needle-nose pliers, turning it to fit through the slot. You can just see the black head of the clip in the slot - it's tricky to photograph and tricky to get at. Once you've released that clip and the middle clip (just a push fit one) then you need to pull the trim piece up from the dashboard to remove the trim. Now you can run the wires down the A-pillar, along the sunroof drain tube (if fitted - otherwise that should leave plenty of space for your cables!). In order to do this most neatly, you need to go underneath the wiring connector you find there. Now feed the wires into the gap between the door and the side of the dashboard: This gets us to the passenger footwell, and onto our next section. When you replace the A-pillar trim, make sure you reinstate that top retention clip, otherwise it may interefere with the airbags. Power Supply For a 3-wire kit you need a permanent 12V and a switched 12V. In order that this all be completely reversible (ie not require any soldering, stripping, etc of the cars wiring looms) I used Add-A-Fuse units. I connected into the passenger footwell fusebox on the connections for Night Vision (not equipped, but fuse is present...) (This is our switched 12V) and into the Power passenger seat (permanent 12V). For ground, there's a handy bolt. The easiest way to do all of this is to drop the trim panel in the passenger footwell - I didn't realise how easy that would be at first. Simply pull it out and down. The bolt head exposed nearest the door is your easiest ground connection: And put your add-a-fuses into the locations described. That should cover power supply - note that you can not re-fit the fusebox cover with the add-a-fuses in place. Rear Camera wiring You've already got your rear camera wire down into the front of the passenger footwell. Simply tuck the wire under the plastic trim of the door sill, and continue along, past the B-pillar into the rear footwell and along the rear door sill also. There's a tight spot alongside the front seat, but you can hide the cable away entirely throughout this section. Continue along and tuck the cable up the side of the rear seat At the top, tuck the cable along the side of the parcelshelf, until you get to the rear blind. I was afraid that the rear blind was going to be very difficult and mean I'd have to go down into the boot and come back up (and I removed the boot trims to discover that this is pretty much impossible). However, it's actually trivial! Raise the blind, THEN feed the cable through, and tuck the cable down. The side track that the blind runs in doesn't continue much below the level of the parcel shelf and there's actually plenty of room to tuck the cable in! You can then put the blind down, partially to check that it isn't impeded but also to finish the job. Place your rear camera and tuck the wire around the edge as normal. Note that you can't place the rear camera high up because the blind will hit it when raised. I placed our rear camera just to the side of the Chimsel (That's a word! Honest! Comes from CHMSL - Centre High Mounted Stop Light). Writing all of this made it seem much easier than it felt like! Replace the removed bits of trim, and all should be good. Please note that this is for information and entertainment purposes only. If you blow up an airbag or fry your car's electrics when doing this, it is YOUR fault.
  3. Hi All I have a Lexus IS 250 2008. I recently had a Nextbase 622GW dashcam fitted and hardwired (by Halfords, using the Nextbase wiring kit). Dashcam works fine but after my first long trip I realised that the cigarette lighter (which I use to power the sat nav) wasn't working. Took it to my local garage and they said the fuse had blown, and replaced it. Everything was fine with the sat nav for a couple of weeks, a period when I wasn't using the dash cam. But a couple of days ago I once again was using the dash cam with the sat nav, and once again the cigarette lighter appears not to be working -- presumably fused again. Has anyone else had trouble combining cigarette lighter/sat nav with hardwired dash cam? I'm not knowledgeable on electrics but I'm presuming that the system is getting overloaded somehow -- is this because the fuse used by the dash cam is the same as used by the cigarette lighter? Is this even possible? Can it be solved by a different type of fuse (I did say I'm an idiot in these matters). Or is there some other explanation / solution? Thank you for any pointers.
  4. Hi, I'm in the UK and have just taken delivery of a new nx300h takumi. I bought a nextbase dashcam (front and rear) from LPD and the instructions were very clear apart from one issue - the fuse box is not where it should be, in fact I can't find it ! According to the instructions it should be behind a panel in the passenger footwell behind the glove box. There is a fuse box of sorts but it only has two 30 amp fuses plus one slot which has no fuse fitted but which is live all the time. As a stop gap I'm powering the dash cam from this feed, but really want it to only operate when the ignition is turned on to conserve battery power as sometimes we go for 4 or 5 days without using the car. I aslo had a look in the drivers footwell - not there either. Nextbase state: The recommend installation type is an ignition live power supply, this can be either the cigarette lighter cable or hardwire kit. An ignition live power supply means one which is only able to provide power to the Dash Cam when the vehicles ignition is on and running. The hardwire kit includes a voltage protection unit which stops the vehicle battery becoming completely exhausted if a permanently live fuse has been selected. This ensures that you will always be able to restart your vehicles ignition and allow the vehicle battery to recharge. Using an ignition live feed would mean it's not active when parked on the road so maybe I should leave it powered all the time and hope it doesn't drain the 12v battery to the point of being too low to start the engine - bit of a quandary really maybe I should just trust the nextbase low voltage protection. Makes me wonder what the drain is from the 12v battery is for the rest of the Lexus systems ? One other small issue, it said to mount the rear camera in the centre, but doing so causes the heated rear windon element to appear in the picture, so I offset it slightly. Has anyone else tried to fit a webcam to a 2020 nx300h ? I'd be interested in your experiences.
  5. Good morning all, So I got myself an Garmin 45 dashcam. I also ordered the hardwiring kit. Halford say they will install for 30 quids. So I went to Lexus dealer, who demanded 430 quids. why? Yes they have to hide it under the trim and connect it to a fuse. All the videos I have seen takes about an hour top if you are lazy with a can of beer in one hand. How can they justify that?
  6. I have the nextbase dashcam hardwire kit and have plugged my fuse replacement holder into multiple fuse positions in the passenger footwell fuse box but I’m gettting a permanent live feed whichever I plug it into even with the ignition off. Obviously I don’t wanna drain the battery but can’t find one that seems to only come on with the ignition. Tried so many and getting frustrated now How or what do I do please?
  7. I am thinking about getting a dashcam for my IS250 (3rd gen) but am amazed at the variety am finding it difficult to settle on a particular make/model. I am looking for a mid-range model (£60 - 120 but not fixed on this) that does not need to be hard-wired in. However, I don't like the idea of a lead dangling down so, ideally, would like one that runs just on an internal re-chargeable battery. That said, it needs to be easily and quickly removed from its mounting point both for re-charging and for security when the car is not in use. If a stand-alone model is not available, then I would like it to be connected to the USB socket rather than cigarette lighter one. Any recommendations would be welcomed. Similar posts by others in this forum have included recommendations but the models seem to be no longer available.
  8. Hi, I'm planning to hardwire my Viofo A119 dashcam (as it came with a hardwire kit) and hoping to put the adaptor in the dome light housing. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows the dome light wiring? I had a poke around the dome light connector (both side pictured below) with a meter at lunchtime but it was somewhat inconclusive...... I found a permanent 12V but couldn't find an additional feed that was alive with the ignition.... Anyone else done this? Regards, Andrew
  9. Hi, Has anyone hard wired a dash cam mounted by rear view mirror on windscreen? Maybe get a feed from interior lights by rear view mirror?
  10. Hi, I am contemplating purchasing a dashcam and will want to hardwire this in. Can anyone recommend a camera and has anyone hard wired in 300h SE?? if so how??
  11. Hi Apologies to Capitalmagie for posting a similar thread to his own. I feel the need for a dashcam but am wondering if Lexus recommend a specific dashcam or whether the fit a specific one? I'm trying to avoid having wires all over my central column and don't like the idea of anything suckered to the windscreen. Does anyone have any good alternatives?
