  1. Looking for some advice. The exhaust on my '08 Lexus IS 200 has dropped off, as the bracket rusted through. I have been quoted £2700 for a genuine replacement and £1500 for an after market. Any recommendations for a cheaper alternative would be great, as may as well scrap the car as it is only worth around £3000 anyway.
  2. Hello, everyone, I'm considering purchasing a 2007 Lexus IS250, but upon reviewing the photos, I noticed a dual-tip exhaust on one side, rather than the usual one exhaust on each side (I've attached a photo of the listing). What could be the reason for this? Is it the result of an accident or just an aftermarket modification? Additionally, I input the VIN number (JTHBK262005047425) into CarVertical, and it revealed no recorded damage or issues. However, it provided only a partial report, stating: 'We noticed that this report is not as informative as usual, There can be two reasons for that: • you've made a typo when entering the VIN - please double-check it; • there isn't enough data available from the manufacturer and other information sources.' The owner claims the car is a 2007 model, but based on the VIN, it appears to be from 2005, doesn't it? For clarification, I haven't seen the car yet, and it's possible that the VIN number provided by the owner might be a typo. Cheers!
  3. Hi Everyone The flanges on my original exhaust were rusting away so I opted to replace the entire system ( exhaust manifold, centre pipe & back box ) - due to cost I opted for a pattern system. As soon as the work was complete the GS (450h) started generating the P0420/P0430 codes, I suspect due to substandard cats in the centre section ( not OEM). I’ve tried various roots to resolve (new sensors / spacers/ confirming no leaks etc ) and it still won’t stop generating. A check on TechStream confirms the sensors are working fine but they’re outside the tight margin in the current set up. I’ve not found anyone who can manage to open the threshold on the ECU settings. Emulators for the 450h don’t exist so I’m running out of options other than replacing the centre section with OEM ( current list price £1340.06) - has anyone else come across the same and found a work around ? Does wiring a resistor into the O2 sensor resolve ? Thanks
  4. Morning Ladies & Gentleman, I am a fairly new poster here, so go easy! I have a lexus Is250 in matador red, and I need a new exhaust system, due to the old one blowing, this includes the rear tail pipes, the mid pipe and the catalytic converter. I am looking for a setup which gives me a nice tone, but something which isn't so loud it disturbs the neighbours, what are your thoughts? Id also like to hopefully add some power in the process, i have been told an invidea mid pipe with resonator will give me the result i am looking for but i just wanted a second opinion, i was also toying with the idea of just heading over to https://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/car-parts/Lexus/IS250/2.5L/Petrol/Premium/Exhausts/Catalytic-Converters/LEX5005H/1/34?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvdDks9aO8wIVjLt3Ch3xMwq7EAQYAiABEgIZWfD_BwE have anyone used these guys, and what are your thoughts? They seem reasonably priced for sure. And getting this with rear pipes of my choosing, but i am not sure on the best route to take, any help is greatly appreciated, and again, im looking for a tasteful mod, nothing too boy racer-ish, but nonetheless a nice tone, and i NO DRONE (I cant stress that enough) Thanks for your time, - Mitch
  5. Hi all, I've had my car checked today and there is a small split in the Y section near the back of the car. I had set a budget aside for an exhaust before buying the car. I wanted to see how many owners had: Tony Banks Exhaust from Leeds Tanabe Medallion Touring Another option I hadn't considered I saw this clip on YouTube, which I hope is what the Tanabe on the Mk3 also sounds like due to being a similar engine: TIA
  6. Wafting through the green lanes of Norfolk yesterday I accelerated over the brow of a hill and boom! The exhaust broke and was dangling on the tarmac, parting as the pipe enters the box on the long section including the cat. I'm loving owning and driving this car - but found that my go-to online parts supplier (europart.co.uk) had no Lexus exhaust parts listed for my car. Is this the case? OEM only? Am I really looking at 4 figures GBP for a section of exhaust?
  7. Dear All, Sorry if this is a replicated question! I have a 54 plate SC430 ... The exhaust system is quite rusty and needs a change. Can anyone suggest an "after market" that my mechanic can easily fit? Lexus want me to pay £3 million pounds (!) for the honour ... Thank you in advance! Varun :)
  8. Is a diesel exhaust from maybe another car or something that sound better then the stock exhaust, that you can find online? Or do I have to buy a custume built one?
  9. I really wanna upgrade my exhaust. The stock one looks ugly, single pipe pointing to the ground.. Where could i get one?
  10. Hope everyone is well! Greetings from the UK, I'm still fairly new to this group, I picked upa second hand Lexus IS250 fairly cheap and I'm mostly impressed. However, while driving the right exhaust came our of the centre pipe while driving and an inspection confirmed it had been welded, and quite a terrible job I might add! Anyway, I wondered if anyone has ever had to replace their exhaust or upgraded the standard stock exhaust and what you went for? Also, any suggestions as to where I might look? I have a Lexus IS250 2006, and the exhaust is a twin pipe coming from the centre. Any help appreciated!
  11. Hello everyone, hope you are all safe. I have a few modifications in mind and thought of compiling them into one thread, so here it goes: 1) I would like to change the exhaust tip of my IS220D as it looks pretty bad in my opinion. I have tried searching for a tip to make it look a bit better, but due to its large diameter and downwards looking shape, I haven't been able to find something. Has anyone faced such an issue and is there a solution? I thought of replacing the rear muffler/resonator. 2) Can the rear lip / diffuser be replaced with an F -Sport looking one? 3)To kind of combine the first two, can I change the rear part of the exhaust system to add a second pipe? That would need a second exhaust cut-out on the diffuser and I don't know if it's possible. Its the first one that I am more interested in, as its probably the cheapest to do and wouldn't mess with the car too much. The other two are things that I would like to do but I am open to criticism. Also here is a picture of the back of my car: Thanks to anyone reading!
  12. hey everyone, I hope you are all well? I made a video of the amazing LC 500 V8 growl if you would like to hear it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7ju3us2KB0
  13. Hi guys, I've decided to put my Build Thread on here on a permanent basis if that's okay? Thought it would be easier.... So, here is my IS200 SE. I've owned it since October, I've had a few issues already such as the Immobilizer and the Battery. So far they have been fixed, fresh discs and pads all round as well as a new Sill. Couple of slight modifications, such as your basic Black Sunstrip and tinted front and rear lights. Coilovers have also been fitted (see previous post). I've sorted out a set of wheels which I've had for a while which will look mint I just need some rubber wrapped around them. Exciting times ahead but so much more work to do. Next up, full stainless steel exhaust. - M
  14. Hi peeps. I have a Lexus GS300 - BHP: 209 Engine Code: 2JZGE Drive: Rear Wheel Drive Camshaft: DOHC JZS147 - 1993-1997 and about a month ago it failed the M.O.T. It failed because of a rusty old mid section exhaust assembly, the part with the silencers. (Diagram attached) For the past month I have being trying everything I can think of to get a replacement, from trawling ebay for scrap dealers to searching online for automotive companies. The only one I found turned out not to be in stock but they did kindly offer to get one directly from Lexus for over £1000 😒 My plea is this. Does anyone have or know how I can get hold of this item so I can get my lovely old girl back on the road, as so far it seems to be one of the rarest things on the planet. Thanks.

  16. Hi, I’ve got a 2000 GS300 which is a mark 2. Found a good exhaust system for sale, only thing is he says it’s off a 1997 mark 1. So will a mark 1 GS300 exhaust got a mark 2 GS300? thanks
  17. Hi there, Last summer, just after I bought my LS, I discovered that one of the exhaust pipes didn't blow as strong as the other. The difference was quite significant. At first I panicked a bit, but a quick inspection led me to discover a leak in the right back box, precisely its bottom wall, centrally located around half way length-wise. It was big enough. The corrosion was pretty bad, so I decided to get a new one. I wanted the best solution, and thought that I should get it from Lexus, (a ton of money) or if from any other shop, it should be as close as possible to the original. The search was long an painful, and I was giving up when found a small (home business) manufacturer in Poland. They are making all kinds of custom-made muffler replacements. I pre-ordered and in less than two weeks I had both of my boxes delivered - brand spanking new as shown on the picture. I also had a chat about my problem with the engineer from that company, who said that LS430 back box has a built-in design flaw, and that's why they all corrode and screw you up always in the same way. Not waiting any longer I grabbed an angle grinder and the results you see on the pictures. As it turns out, the mid-section wall has a flap on a metal spring. This spring gets exposed to pretty corrosive environment (water, and temperature), and you don't have to wait very long (I wonder how long) before it's so corroded that the flap cannot open any more. This leads ( you can guess) to excessive exhaust gass back-pressure build up, which is not very nice for the engine nor it is good for the performance. My flap was quite badly stuck closed, which also leads to excess water accumulation in the compartment before the flat, which in turns causes the bottom of the box corrode all the way through. On the finishing note, I am happy the new boxes do not have that annoying flap, the car runs nice and quiet, so far no problems. What I discovered in this case is to me an example of typical blind over-engineering, without thinking through about materials, the environment they are working in and the consequences. Had I gotten my brand new boxes from Lexus (for an astronomical price) , I would have had the same problem back in a few years soon.... Regards
  18. Hi, My middle and back section of exhaust need replacing and I'm struggling to find anywhere other the Toyota to buy one from. I live in the north west of England does anyone have any suggestions of anywhere to buy these parts from please? Thanks, Dave.
  19. The rear section of my exhaust has a blow,at the 'split' where the two rear pipes separate, i can pretty much see it, but neither the Holts gun gum, nor the Granville paste, seem to be able to stick for long enough. A few hours drive, and the dried paste has managed to push out and away. I don't really want to spend £600 on a new rear section, surely there must be a simpler way to repair it? Even if it involves a 'bodge'? cheers all
  20. So to my amazement my late 2000 (T3?) GS300 passed the MOT with its very aged and knackered exhaust. Two advisories, webbing of a seat belt and "oil leak pinion rear diff". So two questions if I may for your thoughts, experience and knowledge :) 1. Theres no Diff whine, and though wet, I'm not getting any drips. And to be honest I've not had a leaky diff on any car before. Is this common? Tough to fix? Indicative of anything major (other than the diff running dry of course)? (cars just coming up to 150k miles) 2. Exhausts. How much difference to the sound do the "resonators" and maybe third cat make internally? I don't want to lose back pressure anyway, but I see/read that people who have fitted stainless steel systems without the "resonators" on the middle/Y-pipe are getting a lot of drone inside. What needs to stay in some fashion to keep the internal noise level as close to stock as possible? I ask because I still want to replace the system from the front to the back (not the manifold and 2 front cats though, they're okay). Standard systems used are £300+, third party new totals around £400 or so. Stainless steeel fitted new, cheapest quote so far is £390 (I've had loads of quotes). However, thats almost certainly without the resonators/mufflers on the Y pipe. Last option and most likely one is some shiney tail pipes from the USA (those plus shipping works out cheaper than UK fitted ones). All I want is a healthy system in the middle (third cat/front pipe and middle Y-piece) and shiney non-OTT tail pipes that just give a little more external tune for the lovely 2JZ. Seeing as standard rear boxes are pushing on £200 a piece new, I can get a pair of stainless steel ones for about £280, or for £340'ish I can get a Manzo cat back (Y-piece and rear boxes) however the Y-piece has no "resonators" and tempting as it looks, I fear a terrible noise inside and possibly a drop in back pressure I'd rather not have. Sorry for the waffle, but the whole picture might save some guess work for you :) (Images of a standard system and a Manzo cat back for reference about what I am waffling on about)
  21. Hi all! Having had my latest GS300 for a couple of months now, the MOT is due and I know the current exhaust is an issue (see pics). I have been desperately hunting for a stainless steel system in preference to an OEM seeing that the two used ones on eBay are a mighty £350! And MIJ have quoted me £445 for new S/S with life time warranty (as an FYI). So the questions are: 1. If I plug that hole in the back box, and make sure that and the awful paste all over the joint isn't leaking either (thats how I bought the car, not my handy work I'll add) might I stand a chance I wonder, as technically the fail is excessive corrosion. But I fear all that putty is an obvious giveaway of excessive corrosion even if its not leaking. 2. Another MOT requirement seems to be the correct number of baffles/mufflers, so should one slap a S/S cat back on would it be an issue. Or should I maybe say has anyone taken there car (any car) in for an MOT with a S/S cat back and had any issues other than possible noise or emissions? Many thanks! I am getting a little frustrated that in the last two months I've not found a single second hand S/S system and I'm not really wanting to throw to much on the car just yet until I've had it a while longer.
  22. I am new in this forum just bought an is250 two weeks ago. It's handle fantastic. I am looking for a good exhaust which sound great. It will be please if anyone can tell me where can I find one nice e.g. Invidia or Hopefully anyone of you guys got one used can sell it to me. Many thanks
  23. Hello everyone, hope you can help. Does anyone know what this part is called so I can try and buy a replacement? It was just above the exhaust back box until yesterday, corrosion seems to have taken care of that though :( Thank you everyone Mark
  24. Hey guys, lexus failed on the mot sure to the back box, corroded and started to crack, they want £450+vat for OEM Does anyone have a recommendation for OEM spec that doesn't cost the earth, the car is 14 years old now and although it's still tidy it's probably only worth £3k so don't think I need to go direct for parts anymore I have only another week before the current MOT expires so any quick help is greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Rory
  25. Hello I am new to the forum. I bought an approved used is250 with extended warranty on 20 Nov 2015. I have only driven the car for 400 miles and today noticed that exhaust is blowing. I am not sure if it is the middle or rear section. The car was MOT'ed on 20 Nov by Lexus Bolton at the time of delivery. There are no advisories on certificate. I would not expect this issue to happen in such a short period of time. During this period the car was not driven for three weeks (22 nov to 14 dec) due to holidays. Seems like Lexus did not check the exhaust system properly during their inspection and MOT. The car had full service done before delivery and has full service history by Bolton. I am just wondering what are my options here? Surely the new exhaust is about 2000 GBP fitted. Any help/suggestions will be helpful Thanks
