  1. I've noticed my fm signal strength is poor and wondered if that is usual of an 07 GS radio? just about every car I've had for the last 15 years has managed to keep a station and had very little if any white noise interrupting. Today I drove 300 miles and at some points I could find any station and at one point could t pick up bbc for about 30mins. If I drive more than 25 miles it needs retuning and loses signal. It behaves like a car radio from the early 90s! anything I can do/check. Is the aerial in the screen? cheers
  2. Hi All, Had my GS450H about 6 weeks now and I've noticed a surge/change/stutter (can't quite put my finger on it) during heavy acceleration around the 70mph speed. Is this variable valve timing changing as revs rise? Completely normal? Apart from that I think the drivetrain is sound, regularly get 37-38mpg (I do long journeys) and no unusual noises etc. Any help, advice would be appreciated. Chris
  3. Good day all. The 12v battery on my GS450H has decided to give up. I have looked at the battery and noticed a number of connections and wires attached, on the left of the battery there's the Neg terminal, vent pipe and I believe the temperature sensor, then a fused connected wire to the battery holder bracket which leads to the back of the batt where there's a white fixing holding it. My question is, is this white fixing a plug just holding the wire in place or another connector?. I have seen Bosch, Exide batteries on the the web stating they will fit the GS450h but the measurement seems different from the one on mine, I have roughly measured mine without taking the battery out and there seems to be a small difference to those advertised. Has anybody else gone and changed their battery and if so, where did you buy yours?. Thank you for reading and hope for any help, getting desperate now.
  4. Hi Gents, This is my first time on any forum but after the other day i just had to come on and have my say. I have a Gs450h which i must say is a very nice car indeed. After a lot of research I decided to swap my S type for one. On coming out of the house the other morning I noticed a flat rear Tyre. I promptly got to work to change it for the space saver in the boot. Soon the space saver was in place and nuts tightened. The problem I then had was putting the flat wheel in the boot to take it for repair. I cant believe that the flat wheel is unable to fit in the boot Evan after removing all the carpets and trays I still couldn't close the lid. I found my self putting a dirty wheel on the back seats of the car to get it to the repairers. I was obviously aware of the boot size after my research but not for one minute did i think I wouldn't be able to put a flat in the boot. Im only glad that the flat was at home and not on the M1 with a car full of people ?
  5. Hi all, Just wanted to post a quick review regarding Hybrid battery conditioning. I think it was off this site I learned of Hybrid Battery Solutions based in Northampton who I contacted after getting a diagnostic from Lexus. The car lost it's initial surge of power from the battery and would always move off using petrol engine only. Battery indicator would drop to purple very quickly. MPG dropped from about 29/30 to 23-25mpg. I had a CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM message, but it was solid - not flashing check VSC etc as others have described. Lexus ran two separate diagnostics and said it was a smart battery ECU which needed replacing at a cost of £1250 + vat. They gave me a print out of the error code and when researching online it was more common that it was 'Battery pack seriously deteriorated'. I couldn't find much literature regarding the smart battery ECU other than a workbook note suggesting that this is replaced first then if this doesn't work, the battery pack should be replaced. Not knocking Lexus at all but I wasn't overly convinced or filled with confidence. My car is probably only worth £3000-4000 (ambitious?!) and has 150k miles so didn't want to pay for this smart battery unit and then a battery if it didn't work! Using my logic I thought it was more likely than not to be the battery - after all, all batteries do degrade and this seemed to be much much more common when looking online. I contacted Richard at Hybrid Battery Solutions in Northampton who gave some advice and we had a chat about hybrids generally - in fact, we didn't even discuss him 'selling' me his service until I asked (always a good sign I think!). Anyway, cutting to the chase I drove from Teesside to Northampton and averaged 26.2mpg. Left it with Richard for the week and I was astonished when I got it back. It felt like it had been remapped - it was better than before (probably cause I never had from brand new myself). On the same journey back (about 190 miles) I averaged 38mpg. Even after almost a week of short journeys, spirited driving (and traffic light drag racing again ) I am still on 33.4. I am almost gutted that I didn't go for the grid charger (which I think uses some kind of witchcraft to keep the battery cells in their best possible condition) but I might well need a bigger boot to fit a pushchair later on in the year so the car might go although with hindsight, this would have been a good selling point when selling the car. He can do this separate from conditioning I believe or both at same time. It has given me confidence to go and buy another higher mileage hybrid. There is a solution which is significantly cheaper than Lexus and urge others who were in my situation to have a look at this. Hopefully this isn't breaking any forum rules - it's just my experience of this company and that others find it informative.
  6. MY HV battery on my GS450h is poor. I intend to pull it out and check each cell for corrosion, and trickle charge/replace where necessary. When i disconnect the HV battery, will the petrol engine still run as normal, and will all my electrics work? IE, do some electrics require the use of the HV battery? thanks
  7. hi all, i am trying to diagnose my ABS light staying on. I recently replaced the rear hub, but didn't touch or dislodge the sensor, and everything seems in order, visually. I bought the following item off amazon, it has plenty of good reviews, yet i can't get it to connect to my lexus. I tried a friends toyota, and same thing! I am using a laptop with windows 7. The USB connections are good, and the cable lights up when connected. Please help! I don't want to be ripped off by the stealer V8.30.023 MINI VCI for TOYOTA TIS Techstream Cable & Software
  8. Evening folks, After many years of German cars I am new here. Very taken by the GS as a value for money alternative to the usual suspects. Just looking for a nice comfy cruiser. I have decided on a Lexus GS and as you know the 450h is probably the most prevalent. Before I make the leap and buy a 450h I wondered if there are any members on here with the (rare) GS460 8-speed? I've been looking out for one but none have come up for sale, unsurprisingly. I liked the car but not a big fan of the CVT gearbox on the 450h and a bit more boot space would be nice. There is a 450h SE-L (ACC, ML, Sunroof) out there at the moment which feels like a super deal to me, an early 08 plate so 186g CO2. 12 months Lexus warranty, under £8k. I will have a search on the forum but if anyone can advise what the best iPod connectivity solution is, I'd be grateful. Looking to connect digitally and have navi screen access to files and folders rather than having to select on the iPod itself. If there is a Lexus kit then great, I will see if I can order that from the dealership.
  9. Hi guys My 2009 GS450H is due a 60,000 miles major service. I think it needs brake pads or discs replacing as well because it makes a noise when im reversing or braking. It needs a MOT as well. The 60K service is quite expensive at the dealership, approximately £600 + all the extras. My question is whether it would be possible to do this service at an independent specialist and if so where is the best Lexus indy in the west midlands (Birmingham/Coventry area). What kind of savings can i make. Thanks I
  10. Good Evening Everyone I'm looking in to buying MK3 GS450h (2006-2008) and was looking for anyone with one of those to check if my pram would fit in to the boot. It's a small pram but still I'd prefer to check that. Doesn't cost you anything but would help a lot in terms of making up my mind. I had an LS400 back in Poland and it fitted perfectly. Now I've got even bigger boot in Mondeo but I want to go back to my favourite brand and hence the question. I can even bring a pack of coffe or tea if we could take it for a ride as I've never driven to an E-CVT car and would like to see how it performs. By the looks of Fifth Gear presenter it's not that amazing :) But what do they know?! Kind Regards Bart
  11. Hi I'm John from Blackpool, Lancashire. I joined the forum a while ago but I've only just got around to buying one. I pick up my 2008 GS450h SE L tomorrow. I'm changing from an E39 BMW 525i. I joined a BMW forum when I bought it and those guys have been amazing. If I get half the info from here that I got there, I'll be well pleased.
  12. Hi everyone. Just thought I'd pop in here as I've just put a deposit down on a used Obsidian black GS450h SE. It's going into Lexus for a service and a look over before we collect it next Saturday.
  13. I've just had my GS450h in for its 60k service. Two points came up. One was "both rear callipers seized, not sliding". I got suspicious when the dealer said its very common and that the customer who's just left had had his done. I don't see vast numbers of people mentioning this on the forum either. My question is, if the callipers a re seized, how is it I still have great braking and is it common? I was told it's likely to be a £300 touch :(
  14. After 6 years with 1999 GS300 I decided to save some money and bought a IS220d SE-L. It's not a bad car, but after two years I understood IS220d is not 100% Lexus and now I am moving back to the GS series. 2007-2008 hybrid will fit best for me (I like the power, comfort and fuel consumption). Anybody have specifications for SE, SE-L and Sport models? Is it Sport model suspension the same as Se or SE-L ? Thanks, Kes
  15. I guys, I acquired my 08 GS450h a few days ago and love it. My question is about the guidance lines on the reverse camera. I have done a google search and had a look on here but I cannot find out how to turn them on, what am I doing wrong?
  16. Hi I'm happy to report that I am finalising a purchase of my first ever Lexus - a '13 GS450h F-Sport in Mercury Gray with Mark Levinson audio. It's an ex-demo and I got a very strong deal. Whilst I may be approaching my 40th birthday, I don't think that this is a sign of ageing! It was a challenge when comparing cars in this category, but I compared it to the Audi A7, BMW 535d, Merc E class and the Lexus won hands down on performance, luxury (with an excellent standard set of gadgetry), great service plans and friendly (not pushy) sales teams. I hope that this is the start of a great journey. I collect the car next Saturday and will no doubt be a regular visitor. Hello all! Pete (Dorset)
  17. Hi Newbie just joining after buying a GS450h 2007 this week. Got hybrid problems already but it's going in to Lexus next week to be looked at. Love the car, moved from the dark side (BMW and Merc) but so glad I did :-)
  18. Hi All. Been around the houses with loads of company issue cars and including Audi A6, BMW 2.0D up to 335 coupe and many more too numerous to mention. Even an IS200 years ago. A few bullet thoughts... Opted out of company car scheme and went sensible with a BMW118D at 52mpg and although it was a nice car I missed the space/comfort. Opted for an 09 and went for a 450h L and wow what a car.... Took a test drive and could not believe that the car had 57K on the clock as felt like new. Thought I would be doing few miles but racked up 13K in 4 months and observations so far.... Economy poor? Hardly, as averaging 37mpg and that includes 2K road trip to South of France. Engine acoustics don't encourage vigorous acceleration. Reliability? No issues and only niggle is squeaky drivers seat but can live with that for all the other plus points. Other issues in previous ownership were listed as siezed caliper and dodgy xenon. Handling? Not a 335 but not on Nurburgring and on M6. Levinson sound system is a big WOW. What a hidden gem and probably need to book a service as no sign of the oil service light but guees it needs a change. More kit than any car I have owned. Depreciation? Done that with a 335 coupe from 34K t0 17.2K in 13 months and only added 11K miles. Be diiferent and buy one while they still make them. Happy camper...
