  1. Hi all Apologies that my visits are generally only when I've a problem (had previous RX stolen in October 22)! Headline is my insurance quote with Quotemehappy has increased from c.£1.5k last year to £5.5k to renew later in March...and worse all the comparison sites are £4.5k plus. I was braced for an uplift but am in shock. I read the earlier Insurance thread and could see others starting to get the same issues in London in particular, but couldn't see anyone who'd dug themselves out of the problem yet and managed to get a more reasonable price. Background is I've a 2018 RX450HL bought in 2022. That was to replace a 2019 RX 450HL I ad stolen in October 22 (classic CANbus routine) and (stupidly) had somehow missed off no claims protection (please don't bury me on that one - terrible mistake and v expensive!). So the £1.5k I'm paying today was already a big bump on the c.£500 I was paying before. So with the £4.5k plus quotes I think I'm paying an extra premium here for only 4 years no claims. But if I don't find something cheaper I think I've no choice but to sell as I can't justify these premiums. Frustrating as we love the car, works brilliantly with 2 kids. So I am appealing if anyone knows an insurer that is pricing reasonably still on RXs - or is it game over for me? In which case any advice on a suitable non extortionate substitute also welcome! Thanks everyone SA
  2. Has anybody else had problems with trying to insure a newish car with Lexus? My NX was registered in September and my insurance is coming up for renewal so I went online and obtained 7 quotes from different companies. Over the weekend the Lexus website crashed and I couldn't complete the application but all was well on Monday. It wasn't the cheapest quote but I liked the idea of all genuine Lexus repairs so today (Friday) I decided to accept the quote. I hadn't been able to enter my registration number online but I was able to manually enter the details to get the quote. When I came to accept the quote online, I was once again asked for my registration number and again this failed so I phoned Lexus Insurance. Spoke with an agent who just made loads of excuses and wouldn't listen. None of the other 6 companies had trouble with the registration number but this agent was insistent that the problem was caused by my current insurers not registering the car properly. It is with their special operations team at the moment but I am wondering if Lexus Insurance is the right decision if their systems don't work and their staff so unhelpful.
  3. Newbie here. Please excuse my ignorance about technical terms, but here is the situation, best I can explain it. Grateful for any advice you can offer. Someone opened their car door at the last moment and my wife drove into it. Car went to be repaired, the left hand side. We got it back 2+ months later ('parts still on order' we were frequently told) with the left-hand wing etc all repaired. On our first drive with it, 100+ miles to airport, we noticed Check Hybrid System light which was coming on and sluggish power, and strange fluttering noise from lower left side. Struggled to airport, worried car would fail, possibly endanger us on motorway and that we might also in any case miss our flight if we broke down. On return from holiday, a week later, drove the other 100+ miles home again - very slowly and carefully, at 2am - and reported the fact that despite the bodywork looking nice, there were other problems, namely this light coming on and the noise. The garage took a short drive with us and said they would ask for authorisation on any further damage / to investigate but that car safe to drive. After a month of waiting / chasing, we were told by the repair company's assessor that as far as he was concerned the problem we had experienced was down to the wishbones needing repairing and that this was wear and tear not impact damage. We then had the car returned to us and MOT'd, serviced and wishbones replaced. On its return to us, the Check Hybrid System was now on again, and the car noisy when started. We complained again and the repair company said to take it to a Lexus dealer to get their opinion. Lexus inspected it and said that the transmission needs replacing, to cost around £10k to do, and that the problem could have been down to either the impact or the repairs, but they could not tell. Another month, with the car stuck at Lexus while we chase for things to happen. The repair company then asked another independent assessor to visit Lexus to inspect our car. I also asked to attend and on doing so, noted that the assessor didn't put the car on a ramp but just looked at it at ground level and decided that my own garage - which had in 2021, a year ago, changed the oil cooler - had probably NOT actually changed it, but he suspected simply recorded the car as failing for a faulty oil cooler, then five days later fraudulently MOT-passed the car having only CLAIMED to have changed it and CHARGED me for changing it. He noted that the picture the insurers' garage had taken when repairing the bodywork (sometime Jun-Aug 2022) showed a dirty oil cooler that could not have been changed in Sep 2021. My garage has since that meeting, given me a copy of the invoice for the part they bought from Jemca - all fully accurate in terms of the dates, the reg plate, the car model and so on - and, as you might imagine, insisted that of course they changed it. The weird thing is that - as of now, i.e. at the inspection - the assessor says that there is a new oil cooler on the car, and that given the photo of the dirtier one when the bodywork was being repaired, that it must have been changed sometime between Jun-Sep 2022 when the repair company's garage had it, or in late Sep 2022 in the few days that my own garage had it. Nether of the two garages say they changed it though. And the assessor says he believes it is definitely new (and not just, say, cleaned up). Because the assessor currently believes my garage faked the MOT pass, and did not fit an oil cooler they charged me for, he believes it is clear that the transmission problem is nothing to do with the accident. On the other hand, I believe my garage did change the oil cooler. Why would they order the part, charge me for it, not fit it, fake an MOT pass etc. Also given we ONLY EVER had a problem with the Check Hybrid System light once we got the car back, that EITHER the impact of the accident - which was exactly where the oil cooler is, lower left side - AND/OR else the work done or not done (including some or all of the initial repairs, the delays, any driving they did to the car, letting us drive it ourselves 200 miles, not checking for the Check Hybrid System light or diagnosing the fault code, allowing us to continue driving the car for a further month) has caused the problem. The assessor says he cannot see why the initial garage would have changed the oil cooler at their own expense. And why they did not ask for authorisation for the Check Hybrid System repair. I would think that this can be answered by the fact that they failed to diagnose it. So did not ask for it to be done! The assessor also says he cannot think why they would have changed the oil cooler if not authorised to do so - and while I cannot definitely answer that, I suppose they could have done so, just as much as my own garage would not have changed it again - when they changed the wishbones and services and MOT's the car in Sep 2022 - without telling me it needed doing, or charging me for doing so. There's a lot to unpack here, but I think the simplest questions I can ask here are as follows: 1) can impact as described - car crashing into open door - damage the oil cooler? 2) could a repairing garage just end up repairing the visible damage without checking / thinking to check for transmission damage? 3) how much damage could that first 200 motorway miles (100 each way, a week apart) plus some in-town mileage done to the transmission? Would it cause an new-ish oil cooler (less 8 months old) to look old and unchanged? 4) would continuing to drive it after the problem spotted have made the damage worse? 5) given that the repairing garage subsequently DID spot the transmission fault code, is it feasible they would have replaced the oil cooler to try and remedy / cover up the damage i.e. to show that the oil cooler looked okay? Apologies for the complicated story, hope you can navigate it, and please do ask if any questions... Thank you for your help.
  4. It's that time of year, looking for a better price on insurance. Who would you recommend? Has anyone heard of or have any experience with "Quotemehappy.com"?
  5. Hi… I'm 76 years old and only do a small number of miles and my car insurance is due for Lexus is300h sport. I found this web that’s Pay as you drive http://www.bymiles.co.uk cover with AXA Insurance UK plc a crazy price for my car and 2,000 miles it’s Annual estimate £175.43a annual cost, then 38p/mile monthly total p/a £251.43
  6. On Tuesday my RX450h was picked up by the supplying dealership for it to undergo some cosmetic paintwork which wasn't done during PDI. They left me a brand new CT200h with 135 miles on the odometer registered on Monday.. I signed the paperwork in a bit of a rush as I was out working when the car was delivered. I didn't need the car on Tuesday but Tuesday evening when checking the paperwork I realised that it was possible to buy CDW to reduce the £1000 insurance excess. As I was getting up early Wednesday morning I emailed the Salesman and the Business manager requesting the extra cover at 6.30am. Murphys law then took hold. Lunchtime i was on a newly resurfaced road 70 miles from home when traffic coming the other way flicked a small chipping onto the windscreen. Bang -the screen chipped but worse it then cracked for a good 12 inches across the middle of the screen. I called the garage to be informed that they hadn't done anything about the CDW as it could only be added when I took possession of the car not after. The upshot is that the excess for glass unlike a normal policy is the full amount of £1000. It was suggested it would be better to get a screen fitted locally (the dealer is over a 100 miles from me) as it would mean I had a car for the next week and would cost less. Well My local dealer got me a screen and its booked for fitting tomorrow. The screen is £300.08p including vat , but the extra clips and fittings needed to install make the total £447.86p The fitting charge is a further £108 making a grand total of £555.86p......................... Now worried in case anything else happened to the loan car i spoke to my own insurers. They have put the car on my policy for £16.80p for a week and there is no windscreen excess and my own £250 excess will apply in the event of a claim.
  7. My RC-F Carbon is arriving on the 17th, I have a couple of quotes from Confused and Admiral of c.£1,000 which is fine...but as all you guys have lived through numerous renewals and quotes I would be interested to know who you find to be cheapest. For comparison purposed I'm 40, a company director, zero points, 5 yrs no claims.
  8. Just wanted to share my experience with this insurance company. This is one of sister companies called eSure and Sheil'as Wheels who are under same underwriter eSure insurance Limited. Nothing to hide here - I have chosen them because they have offered the cheapest insurance and that is pretty much it. One way or another I consider insurance in UK to be legal fraud and only insure for the sake of compliance rather than anything else and my hopes are rock bottom from the start. If I would have option not to insure, I would not insure - quite simply prices in UK are ridiculous. Anyway back to the point. I was using Admiral and Bell in the past (obviously both are using same underwriter as well) and both were fairly awful, every time there was time for renewal my price would jump by 30% and I would need to spend 2hours on the phone brokering world peace to get my price in order. Not sure maybe they tried to get rid of me... Now.. as some of you might remember last year I had non-fault, non-claim collision which because of arbitrary insurance rules has to be reported (why!). When I list it in comparison tool that increases my insurance costs by almost 50% (from £600 to ~ £900, that is for notification only accident). However to my big surprise and for the first time in 5 years eSure renewal price was lower than a year before and they even added legal protection and hire car upgrade. All in all it was no brainier to switch, because going with anyone else woudl have meant declaring the accident and paying £300 more, whilst staying with eSure I got loyalty freebies and they didn't penalise me for honestly reporting the accident. In conclusion from all insurance fraudsters around UK, eSure seems to be the fairest criminal and to the date I cannot fault their policy conditions or customer service. I guess I would only see their real face if it would come to making the claim, but as far as policy for mere compliance goes I am pretty happy.
  9. So all it's that time of year again. I'm looking at agreed value policies this time. Any advise on who to speak to or go with? Before people say Adrian Flux... I called them this morning and the guy at the other end of the phone was not remotely interested and said we can't insure you. So sod them.
  10. 10% MEMBER DISCOUNT ON ALA FIVE STAR GAP INSURANCE GAP Insurance covers the shortfall between what you paid for your vehicle and the insurance pay out should you be unfortunate enough to make a total loss claim. If your vehicle is stolen, involved in an accident or damaged by fire or floods and your insurance company declares it a write off, they will settle at the value of the vehicle at the time, this can leave you out of pocket by thousands of pounds. A brand new car can lose up to 70% of its value in the first three years alone, while a second-hand car can lose as much as 20% in the first six months, giving you an idea of the financial impact a write off could have. 11. Hi, Just thought I'd share my insurance quote with the board so you may get a laugh. After a couple of false starts I've managed to do the deal on a 2015 RX450h, picking up this week. My insurance quote from Lexus Insurance was £3K. I'll be 38 next month, driving nearly 20 years. I've got 10 years NCD and no accidents or convictions in the last 10. My girlfriend has a fault claim and an SP30 from last year but it didn't seem to affect the quote that much, she drives a company car which I also drive. 8000 miles a year as I work from home and don't need to commute. We live in a reasonably good area with low crime (although it's NE which I realise puts the prices up a little). I wish I'd not bothered with the Lexus and gone for an Audi S8 instead :) :) :) :) :) I've managed to get a much more reasonable (if not somewhat more expensive than I expected) policy from Aviva for £600. I tried Adrian Flux for the Gold Members discount but they came back at nearly £1K and were pretty rude on the phone. Hopefully it's all worth it!!! Andrew
  12. Someone left a nasty dent and scratch in the corner of the front bumper of our RX450h (pics to follow). Sigh. This is a week after someone left a scratch on the corner of the rear bumper and along the rear wing. Double sigh. I am wondering whether or not to get it fixed at my own cost... or claim on my insurance which currently has maximum no claims and protected bonus. Is there a threshold above which an insurance claim becomes the more cost effective option? Also, I am tempted to go to Lexus as, in my experience, their standards are pretty high. Should it matter, our RX450h is velvet black, i.e. non metallic. Would appreciate any advice.
  13. My insurance has offered to insure my tyres against accidental and malicious damage, at a cost of £89 for year This entitles to 4 claims per year. Tyres must be legal and cost less than £250 (they do a similar policy for tyres that are over £250, but the premium rises to - I think - £109) Excess is around £30 You can claim as soon as the policy has been paid for and activated, which means that you could take the policy out and claim against it the day you have a puncture. Seems like a no brainer but... Thoughts anyone?
  14. My insurance is due for renewal and I have started looking around at various providers. I have been offered £368 (fully comprehensive + protected no claim + courtesy car) from my current (online) provider, which I do not think is a bad deal, following an own fault accident 4 months ago. Do any of you recommend Lexus' own insurance?
  15. Last weekend I went to visit a friend in Royal Leamington Spa. Parked my IS200 in a council car park and came back to find out that some scrote/s decided to Starsky & Hutch it all over my car ! The roof is warped though I have managed to pull 3 of the major dents out myself, but I've got 6 very visible flaws in the roof now, they also rolled over the front of my car scratching the bonnet and nearside wing also denting the bonnet in two places in the process, one of them right on one of the folds too. To add insult to injury they even ripped off one of my roof strips - the :tsktsk:! The police are checking the CCTV in the car park but I’m not holding my breath for them to be able to actually ID the blighter/s. Took it to Lexus Stoke (my local dealership) but the price they were asking for was > £1000 and would mean an insurance jobby, which I’m really not keen on doing as I don’t have protected no claims. So I’m getting it done at an independent bodyshop in Fenton which was recommended to me by a couple of mates. I’ll post some after pictures when it’s been filled and re-sprayed. Really not a happy bunny right now though :megaangry:.
  16. I was recently involved in a non-fault accident, which when I advised my insurance broker ( RAC ). I was put through to a company called DRIVE ASSIST, who I was assured would deal with the repair & supply a replacement vehicle at no cost to myself, they claim it back from the third party insurers. To cut a long story short, they supplied a replacement car in the dark so the delivery inspection was difficult. Following the repair of my IS200, they collected the replacement car two days late & accused me of causing damage to their vehicle, which I had'nt. This resulted in a dispute which has taken months to resolve. Having Googled Drive Assist I found that similar problems have occured with a lot of other people, in fact they have even been on the BBC Watchdog program. Should anyone come up against this company I would advise you to have no dealings with them whatsover.
