  1. Hi, after suffering an issue for YEARS with my Lexus IS220D (I just couldn't bear to part with it), I came across the diagnosis to my problems in this post on this brilliant forum (should have joined earlier!!)... https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/107523-potential-fix-for-is220d-white-smoke-smells-of-diesel-poor-mpg/?&page=3#comments I spoke to a Toyota specialist about looking into this (this is way above my mechanical knowledge, wouldn't know where to start) and he mentioned he thought he recalled a 5th injector recall. I've also seen it referred to on this forum, by an IS220D owner. However I have called Lexus and they say nothing is showing as outstanding on my car (56 plate IS220D). Would anyone know anything about this please? If not, I think I just need to get the 5th injector replaced and pray, but any more info around this that I can share with my mechanic would be great if anyone has any experience. I don't think it's the wiring, as I've tried disconnecting the battery for a while so it 'unlearns' but the problem (smoking, smell of diesel) is immediately apparent, and from what I've read it would take a little while to return if the wiring was the issue. Thank you!
  2. Hi Guys, Little dilemna going on here, need second opinion. Car details: Lexus iS220d 2007 Mileage: just under 180ish k km) 2 owners from new (got car with 120k km from previous owner) Modifications: Remapped to 510nm torque and 210bhp, upgraded GS350 6pot brake calipers and bigger discs, lowering springs, V-LAND tail lights, sport flat base steering wheel, twin exit stainless exhaust system from Honda S2000, original GS300 alloy wheels , boot spoiler, K&N filter, blocked 5th injector. Probably forgetting something. Long story short i have looked after the car and spend over 2-3k on upgrades. The car has exceptional Power/Weight ratio and most importantly fuel efficiency about 5-6 ltrs/100km. Last year i was unfortunate to put in bad diesel from a local garage and instantly noticed puff of black smoke, However being naive thought it was my eyes or paranoia. Anyway ended up changing 4 injectors (no-one told me they were priced as GOLD) , air filter, cleaned EGR valve. Finally came to conclusion it was bad fuel (probably damaged the replacement injectors too). Car has been sitting last 4months at least due to bad weather and now weather has improved but it won't start just cranks. Is this worth fighting the war to fix it, I keep thinking i am almost close to fixing the issue, I am currently using LS600h as daily but i would prefer to have the Sporty IS220d manual as daily and the LS for long trips. Problem is i have no garage space to actually take it apart to inspect any internal components and having played around with it, its probably going to be hard to get a mechanic willing to take a look at it as the road-worth test is expired since Dec 22. Attaching photos of what i was getting on Techstream when it was still starting, I have a few post here where i shared video/photos but can't figure out how to re-share. I have connected Techstream but no codes. Possible cause from my understanding: - not starting (probably weak battery even though i charged it nearly 2 days but never goes past 13.5v, i am thinking cranking Amperage is weak or fuel pump) - black smoke (bad fuel, bad injector/s leaking fuel causing over-fueling) Any pointers/advice much appreciated. 3. Hello people! I have an issue with my is220d, it’s an LHD car and has 260k km on the clock. a couple of days ago, the nightmare begun, when for some reason, the engine start bottom doesn’t show any colors, it just stays with the backlight in and if I press it, nothing happens. I tried looking the battery, it’s ok. I looked all the ground, it’s ok. I looked all the fuses, they are ok. I will be honest, the car is an ex flood damage, but the car worked perfectly until a couple of days ago. I bought the car really cheap but now I’m “balls deep” in it so I can’t just sell it because I will end in a huge loss, plus I really love the car so no reason for me to get rid of it. Going back to the issue, I removed the module that should decode the key and make the car go brum brum, (89670-53030) since I saw that the same issue happened to other people as well, they had the code b2799 but I can’t scan the car because the dash won’t turn on. anyway the only guy that fixed it said he heated it up with a hairdryer, I tried it, no work for me, I tried two different modules, no life at all. so I’m asking y’all for some help. anyone has ideas? 68694855583__D8F4725B-96FD-4CD4-B613-1CD5219D47E6.MOV
  4. I recently received the Techstream which I brought from ebay 2 month ago for checking the Block percentage of DPF. “Luckily”, my DPF problems happened again (the 3th times in 7400 mil) and I recorded the data before and after the DPF regeneration using the TS. The TS dose show more data compared to cheap EM327 OBD2 scanner. An it dose provide DPF regeneration function that you might simply sit still and rev the engine to regen without dangerously stop-start driving on motorway. So, I wanna share with you guys. In the NEXT TWO screenshots below, please pay attention to the “0” column and "DPF PM BLOCK" row. The ECU saved the P2002 error with last 3 data, the time error occur data and 1 data followed. These 2 screenshots record the data at when the DPF block error occured. After checked up the ERROR code P2002, I start to looking for some data to show the available capacity of DPF. On other cars, it would be shown as percentage like "150% full". But I failed to find it. The only data I could check is the DPF differential pressure, which also shown on upper 2 screen shot. The differential pressure is also the source that ECU tells how much the DPF is blocked. The data highlighted in screenshot below is the DPF differential pressure. This screenshot was taken at I was just going to start DPF regen. Throttle in IDLE, you can tell by looking in Engine speed. This screenshot below was taken when I just started to regen. After I switched on the regen, one data related to DPF regen change, which is the After Injection Period. I think it means that the engine is actually started to heat up the exhaust gas. But I didn't notice when I took the screenshot. As the requirements (tank not overfull, rev at 1750 to 2750, coolant above 75 Celsius, shown in the TS when selected the regen test. but not shown in the screenshot) of regen process, the car was sitting still and gearbox in neutral with engine revved at around 2000 rpm. (Is the throttle not controller by TS? I had to press the pedal by myself). You can see that the differential pressure going all the way up to 11kpa (110mbar) when the engine revved at 2200rpm. I kep the throttle at around 2000 rpm for about 5 minute. (The regen was acutrally works but I didnt notice at the time. So I doubted that the regen dosent works. I stopped it and decided to have a motorway run) The screenshot was taken several minutes after I started regen( you can see on the engine running time.) It actually improved by seeing the differential pressure 8.9kpa compared to 11kpa (2 minutes ago). After I went on the M1, the car did enter limp mode a few mils at 3rd & 60mph. But never enter limp again. The process time is much much shorter than previous times (10 stop-start period) Then I cleaned the error by OBD2 scanner. Here are the screenshot after all the works, please take attention on the DPF differential pressure The engine was on idle. These 2 were on 2000 rpm The diff pressure which is much lower than which before the DPF regeneration. I can feel each time after the DPF regen, the car throttle respond is improved. I do record the time that DPF problem occurred and the additive I added. I post it out as a reference. It looks like the DPF problem happens to me every 3000 mil. The recent time mileage is 107400. The regen test looks like this. The description is in Chinese but nothing important in it. My driving style is already change a lot from last time, always 5th@70mph, 6th@above 75mph. EGR cleaned and exhaust recircle error is always very low (0~10%). I still dont know how can I fix the DPF problem. i didnt try to update my ECU since the car was last serviced in lexus centre in 2010, the ECU might be out dated. I have call lexus and hope to get my ecu update soon. By the way, the TS does have a ECU upgrade function, maybe I can do it myself but I want to try lexus centre first. Does any one know the cost of ECU upgrade? The check with TS every several hundreds mils might help me to monitoring the DPF and tell me when add DPF cleaner.
  5. Hello! So I've recently changed my car battery on my IS220D 2009 model, some of the memory was reset such as seats but no radio or nav was reset. However I have just noticed that the side door floor foot panels where the lexus logo would be is not lighting up anymore as well as the interior lights when u unlock the car or open the door as they would turn on but none of that is happening anymore.. Is there a quick fix/reset for this? Has anyone else encountered this before? I'd much appreciate any help on this thanks!
  6. Hello, I have a problem with my Lexus IS220d 2006 for more than 1 month, I don't have enough fuel pressure to start the engine, I suppose to have 550 bar but I have just 50-65 bar. I sent to check the injectors and the fuel pressure pump, they told me that they are OK, I took the fuel pressure pump from another car and tested on my one, still didn't work, I put my fuel pressure pump and common rail on another car, they are working. I didn't swap the injectors with another car and now I think they are the problem but I sent them to check and they told me they are OK. I don't have any electrical error, I just don't have enough fuel pressure. The motor starter it's trying to start but not enough fuel pressure to start. The only way to start the car it's the easy start (with a spray). Do you have any ideas? Thanks
  7. Hi All, Been searching for what other model headlights will fit the IS200d (2012) tried searching but couldnt find anything. My son reversed into the passenger side headlight so now looking for a used replacement so was hoping that a 220 or 300 model might fit. Any help appriciated Lop
  8. Hi all Today after almost a year I decided to clean the EGR valve as it had been 10K since I last did it and the car was feeling a bit sluggish. When I removed the engine cover, to my surprise it was covered in sort of black tar (but hard to the touch) around one of the injectors and burn marks and similar crust on the underside of the enigne cover as well. When I started the car, with the bonnet up and engine cover off, it was like a steam engine. It was blowing sort of steam, stream from the injector on every turn of engine about every four ticks I presume. So.. I dont know how long its been blown for as I had been feeling the car was becoming a bit sluggish and MPG was going down quite a bit and I thought it was the EGR valve. Problem is that when the engine cover was on and I was usually sat in the car with the windows up and AC on, I would not have heard that steam engine blowing So I am a bit scared now what to do about it. Its on 118000 miles now. The head gasket should be OK as the pink radiator fluid is still pink and no residue inside the engine oil cover. I am trying to post some pics with this thread but don't know if they will come out properly. Any comments? suggestions what to do next?
  9. Hello, guys, I recently bought a Lexus is220d and discovered that whatever I do, the front seats, even if they are turned off or on, blow continuous cold air. Do you have any idea what the problem would be? Or if someone can help me? Thank you!
  10. Hi Lads, I've a 2009 IS220D that has thrown a tantrum with its electronics. I was driving yesterday and everything was perfect, engine was running smooth and all electronics working fine. However I went to start it today and the power steering light and ABS light stayed on. Now the power steering doesn't work, the dash display shows no values for outside temp/Fuel range etc, the electric windows don't work from the drivers switch and the engine temp gauge doesn't move on the dash. The check engine light is not on and nothing else is displayed on the dash. It also seems to be a bit dead when out of boost, I know the lag feel is fairly large on these engines but it seems more like its in limp mode now until it comes on boost, then it feels fine. I checked all the fuses in the drivers side, passenger side and engine bay and they are all intact. The battery seems ok as it doesn't struggle to start and I measured the alternator charging at just over 14V and battery at around 12.8-13V with the engine off. Has anyone any idea what can be causing this? I'm guessing its the ECU but I'd rather see if this has happened anyone else before I start ordering parts. Thanks.
  11. Hi guys, I need to change my rear shocks absorber from my Lexus IS 220D (ALE20L-AEFLYW) - more info about orignal part. I was at Lexus Service and one shock absorber cost 320euro x 2 pieces left/right = 640euro without installation, expensive... I checked in service the number of my shock is Tokico Japan 48530-53141 or 4853080416 - ALE20..RHD..ATM MARK 48530-53141,MALAYSIA SPEC,MALAYSIA SPEC&TIRE & DISC WHEEL-225/45R17+245/45R17,SUMMER TIRE,ALUMI And I find alternative in Japan: Tokico 4853080413 - GSE20 MARK 48530-53121,TIRE & DISC WHEEL-225/45R17+245/45R17,SUMMER TIRE,ALUMI - cost 66euro/piece = 132euro + 70euro shipping, huge difference! Who knows, what difference between ALE20 & GSE20? I think I can use GSE20(IS250) shock absorber on my ALE20(IS220D)... Please help! thanks in advance!
  12. Hello everyone. I own a IS220D from 2007 which currently has around 97k miles. A few weeks ago it started having a lot of white thick smoke but not always and also I didn’t had any power below 2k rpms. I have been to two different garages to see what is the problem but they tester didn’t show any errors. I have been to a third garage to rempa it and remove the DPF and EGR. The DPF was removed physically as well but now is in limp mode, with no power at all, the car is not letting me rev it more than 2k rpm and I still have no errors at all. Does anyone has any ideas of what I could do next? Thank you, Bogdan.
  13. Hi I have an 07 plate is220d which to be fair has had very little problems. A month ago it was sluggish, to the point of dangerous, pulling away in 1st gear. Then the VSC light came on and the AA said blocked DPF. I had the DPF chemically cleaned but still sluggish. I had the EGR cleaned and the inlet manifold, still sluggish, I even swapped the MAF sensor with a friend who has a Toyota, still useless. I then thought back to the old days and decided that if it was years ago I would have suspected a loose throttle cable or linkage, but this car is drive by wire. I decided that it might be a faulty or dirty accelerator potentiometer, I sprayed it with a good dose of electrical contact clener whilst pushing the pedal with my hand. I don't know whether this is a permanent cure, but I can honestly say the car runs better than it has done for years, the fuel consumption has improved only slightly but I can live with that. Give it a try it might work for you. Pluffy
  14. Hi guys. Looking for an answer into the issue i have with my IS220D. it is an manual 2006 IS220D with 140,000 on the clock. I bought the vehicle in June, knowing of this issue, but hoping it’s a cheap easy fix to which I have only attempted terraclean as of yet. The issue I have, is that the car feels well underpowered before the turbo kicks in, foot could be flat to the floor and it feels like it is holding back. Asoon as the turbo kicks in it’s flying. Has anyone got the solution? Thanks in advance.
  15. Hi, I'm new on here but hope someone can help identify a solution to an odd problem with my IS220D. The car is a 2010 reg with around 80k miles on the clock. Fully serviced on schedule by Lexus. Recently needed to have the EGR valve replaced but since then, and progressively getting worse, when the engine is warm there is a marked hesitation when accelerating beyond around 2000 rpm and a complete loss of power. When the car is stationary the engine can be revved throughout its range without hesitation but the problem always occurs when the engine is under load. I can accelerate away from a junction in 1st and through 2nd gear with no problem but when the car is on the move and a similar maneuver is attempted then the problem occurs. It feels like a misfire but I'm at a loss to understand why it would only happen while driving and not when stationary or pulling away. Any thoughts or suggestions? Many thanks
  16. I really wanna upgrade my exhaust. The stock one looks ugly, single pipe pointing to the ground.. Where could i get one?
  17. I am buying a Lexus IS250 or IS220d. I live in Norway so I will not be paying more on one of the vehicles besides the actuall pay sum. So I can buy a stock 2007 IS250 or a 2007 IS220d with upgraded lightes (front and back), upgraded suspenison and comes with brand new tires. Also its a 4500£ price difference on these 2. So I know about the head gasket problems on the IS220d and the gear range on the gearbox. But are these problems big enough to close the price difference? Thanks!
  18. Hi, IS220 has 167000 miles on it and started to give me plenty of things to fix. The latest one has me stumped. The pulley on the tensioner keeps getting pushed off the bearing. Got a second hand tensioner and same thing. Have checked the alignment of the alternator to the crank and it seems good. All bearings and pulleys seem smooth with no wobbles. Marked the crank and looks like harmonic balancer hasn’t separated. Has anyone had similar issue or any ideas on what else I can check. Thanks
  19. Hello fellow Lexus owners! I'm new here and came to this forum looking for advice as other mechanics in my city have been hopeless in solving this mystery. I am quite a beginner to car mechanics so any help would be appreciated I drive a 2007 Lexus IS 220d and the problem is that after ignition the engine stalls after about 10 or so seconds. After re-ignition the same problem sometimes happens again, sometimes not. Sometimes its possible to press the accelaration pedal to "catch" the moment of the stalling and get over it (in this case the engine does not stall anymore). In time this has a huge load on the battery and I had to change it once already. Also, the idle RPM is ruff at times and even in the summer the RPM sometimes jumps to 1,2k in the beginning (I was told this is just a way for the engine to heat up more quickly but as it is summertime now and about 23 degrees C, I don't think this should be right). The DPF has been removed and the EGR valve has been switched off. No check engine lights for this as well so not possible to see issue via OBD. Thanks for any help!
  20. Hi, I have a 2006 IS220d which has the common issue of white/blue smoke from the exhaust. Having done a fair amount of reading up on the topic I am fairly confident that it is being caused by the fifth injector because if I disconnect the battery the issue goes away for a couple of days. I have done other checks and I am fairly confident that it is the 5th injector as opposed to the turbo or indeed the headgasket. The car is driving perfectly and is returning good mpg (for one of these) at just shy of 47mpg on a run. I am aware that some people say this is normal and is just the car doing a DPF regen, but it does seem to be an excessive amount of smoke. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of a fix to this issue permanently as opposed to just disconnecting the battery. (I know a lot of people say to do the classic egr off, dpf off, ad 5th injector off + remap, but I wont be doing that at the moment) I love the car and i'm hoping this small niggle with it can be fixed. Thanks In advance
  21. Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. I recently bought a IS220d F Sport (2010) to replace my '07 IS220d with 175k miles. The new car felt sluggish at low revs so I thought ok, ERG valve.....which I've cleaned I's say 3x previously on the old car. Sure enough, the valve is clogged with soot - worst I've seen (car has 68k so I suspect never done). However now that I've cleaned the assembly I've noticed something that doesn't seem right. The valves are not sitting in their seats on the body of the housing. It's as if the valve mechanism is not retracting fully. This presumable allows gases to pass through the valve constantly. I'm attaching a couple of pictures which hopefully show what I'm probably describing very poorly. Any thoughts very welcome. Scott
  22. Hi all, does anyone know where I can get the high and low caps that go on the air con ends? regards Joel
  23. Hi all, so I had my aircon re gassed by a aircon specialist and even though the car has taken on the correct amount no cold air is blowing out. when I turn on the ac I can’t hear then any engagement like it us too before. Also my engine fans have stopped working could they both be related. The specialist will be back out Monday to use some software that Will isolate the aircon sides of things I was just wondering has anyone had similar issue? could it be as simple as a fuse? the compressor is new as it was replaced by Lexus Teeside less than a year ago. regards Joel
  24. Hi guys, Thought I should join to share my IS220d experience. I had issues blanking my EGR few years ago as it would throw up all sorts of errors. tried cleaning but only eliminated issues temporarily. I found a company willing to do a remap. He managed to delete DPF and EGR. I then blanked the EGR with a plate and got the DPF gutted by a professional welder (mechanic) within a week of map. The car was at 120k mileage when mapped. it is now at 162k pulling strong on all gears. the economy, torque and response was an still is really noticeable. I manage 38>mpg on minor boost and 31-36mpg having fun with it. These figures vary dependent on weather and road conditions hence the large variations. To summarise, 1. hydrocarbon engine flush. (I just did it for the sake of it) 2. remap (delete EGR and DPF from ECU) 3. Blank EGR (blanking plate from ebay) 4. DPF gutted then re-welded professionally (from my mechanic) Hope this helps,
  25. Hello all, Just been thinking about all the problems associated with the IS220d and i was wondering did any of them ever get fixed from factory throughout the years of production such as a better head gasket design, more reliable injectors, 5th injector, DPF etc? I currently have a 2008 model with 101k with no problems as of yet apart from seized caliper pins in each caliper, i would of liked to keep it as long as i could but the thought of several expensive problems as ticking time bombs is putting me off. Thanks
