  1. Hi All, I am at my wits end with a strange problem I have with my lexus. The car brings out white smoke intermittently. It doesn't smoke when you start it but when the engine gets warm and you are driving along, it may suddenly start smoking for about 20-30seconds and then stop. The drive is normal(fine) and there no warning lights coming up on the dash. I took it to a garage a few months ago and was told that there were no indications of any serious problems. I live in Chelmsford and would appreciate any recommendation of a good lexus garage. Thanks
  2. Hello all, I've just become the proud owner of an IS220D SE-L with 116,000 miles on the clock. One interesting thing i haven't investigated further is that the fuses have been removed for the heated seats and also for the ABS system. Can anyone advise why this may have been, as i intend to replace with the correct fuses as it would have been before. Previous owner didn't even know they were missing! Thanks all, Simon

  4. HI Guy's Vehicle: IS220d Multimedia Year: 2007 I hope someone can shed some light on my bizarre problem, only noticed it couple a weeks ago when my s3 car charger refused to charge my phone even though the charging indication was showing red on the s3. The charger works fine on my other vehicle. I have ruled that out. I decided to hook up my obd2 ELM bluetooth dongle with Torque Pro software to monitor what the voltage was. Here is my finding: Car switched off = 12.6V Car switched On (idle) = 14V Car switched On (Rev 1500) = 14.5V When driving, foot on acceleration my voltage drops to 12.3V as soon as i lift the foot off the accelerator the voltage shoots up to 14.1V, even if i'm in gear or while driving putting in neutral same problem when accelerating. ** For the above test Climate control, Radio/CD, windows etc,, were not in use, No load apart from engine running** I have even done a parasitic drain test using my voltmeter and that shows reading of 0.15 micro amps which i assume is normal aslong as its below 0.50 micro amps. The only thing i haven't checked is the ground straps. Can some please tell me how many ground straps there are for this vehicle and where are they located on the vehicle. I just hope its something simple like a loose or broken strap. P.S I also have at my disposal the latest TIS techstream software on my laptop..i can look at other readings in depth but not sure where to look with this problem. Look forward to your reply Thanks in advance
  5. Hi guys, This is my first post in a long while, and apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere as i couldn't find an answer myself. I'm in a bit of a conundrum..my normally bullet proof 2006 is220d SE has recently started to cough and splutter before stalling when at idle. This does not happen all of the time, oand when it does its usually after a couple of mins of the car being in idle if i am letting it "warm up" , or if i come to a stop after driving (parking up). once this happens it struggles to start up again but after a few attempts it usually fires back up. another thing i noticed the other day was that the revs jump from idle to around 1500 rpm a few times before it stalls. my most recent episode was when i was waiting at the lights and as i set off the revs started to jump causing the car to sort of bounce along. i tried to accelerate and found there was no power just the revs jumping erratically, fortunately it didn't stall and drove normal after a minute or so of going crazy. i service the car every 10k miles without fail, and last service was done approx 8k miles ago. the car has done 210k miles - but trust me when i say this, it does not feel anywhere near that mileage as it has been properly maintained, to the point where sometimes you cannot tell it is a diesel vehicle let alone a high mileage one. its just this little niggle now is causing me alot of stress...lol no error codes or lights..any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
  6. So I bought this Lexus is 220d from a car dealer 50 miles away, just as I got a few roads away from home I lost my acceleration. I was pulling out from a junction and it suddenly had nothing to give. Here is the fun part... I bought the car with the VSC and engine management light already on. My first thought was that it was going to be a simple DPF issue or something simple. The car did still have power even with the VSC light on and it still runs fine now but no acceleration. DTC from scanner: P1426, P2002 (Particulate Trap Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank1)) and P2047 (Reductant Injector Circuit / Open (Bank 1 Unit 1)). What I have done to find and fix the problem. General inspection revealed sensor from back of the engine (I think 5th injector sensor P2047) was unplugged and so was another in the DPF (I think temp sensor P1426 code). After plugging them both in the codes went away. For P2002 I took the car on a very long run after using a DPF cleaner and fuel additive and had no effect. Decided to try remove the DPF from the vehicle to have a look but to my surprise before I removed it completely I could see light coming from the other end. I think the people before me obviously removed it unless it has been broken up and inside of the convertor itself which I think would be unlikely as I would have seen some sort of broken material surely? One of the differential pressure sensor tubes that come from the DPF is blocked, I could not unblock this with a tyre compressor so I used a T connector to join the two and then used another T connector to go straight into the pressure sensor. I was worried about the sensor getting too much pressure so I decided to put a couple breather holes in the tube so the pressure wouldn’t build up even close to 14psi. This has cured my VSC light. I have done tests with the differential pressure sensor and I think it seems to be in good working order, unplugged the signal reads 4.8v, plugged in with power its 0.8v and when the car is running it will fluxuate around 0.8v. It does seem like its missing the power from the turbo as if I had a leak between turbo and manifold. I have looked for vacuum leaks but it’s been hard finding any problems. I have inspected the turbo actuator (wastegate) and it seems to move and do its job. Alternator is charging and battery is good health. Glow plugs have good resistance and volts going to them. Put paper against the exhaust to see good pressure and no suction from exhaust valves. EGR is clean and good condition the valve moves freely. While inspecting the EGR I could see a fair bit of carbon maybe oil build up on the air intake manifold. Vacuum pressure regulator seems to be working fine in regards to resistance etc. but not sure if its diverting the air to the filter when volts are going to it. I done the test while it was still on the vehicle and could read it had 12v supply while plugged in but when I blew on the hose I was still coming out of the other hose not filter, sure it would provide a DTC if it was faulty. I spoke with someone that done remapping and he said if I deleted the files from the ECU then I wouldn’t have the problem with the DPF anymore assuming all the sensors and everything was in working order, he told me he couldn’t find any problems. I paid the guy £250 to come out he remapped my car and it had no effect... Its driving me crazy I need to get this fixed.
  7. Hi all, I have the VSC check light on. My is IS220d. I have been driving with this light on for 2 years now. The car did so far 130K on the clock. I have no loss of power whatsoever. I do a trip Swindon-Cambridge twice a week every week. I can easily do 44 MPG at 70+ mph on sixth gear. So Power wise no problem there. But this light is getting on my nerve now. I took it to Lexus dealer and they claimed that cat converter has gone and wanted £2500 to fix even though I told them what I said above. Any ideas how to fix this? or what else can be causing this light to come on?
  8. Hi there, newbie Lexus owner here 😬 Wud any of members know where the engine number is located on the engine block of a 56 plate 220d??? As I wish to check against logbook as previous owner told me engine was changed at Lexus but has no record of it..... I could ring dealer but thought I'd try u guys first. Thanks in advance Chris.
  9. Hi everyone, I have been suffered from the DPF problem during months. I brought the SE-L in April 2016 with clock 100k mils. It came out the first time with my hard accelerating with the car in May. DPF was regenerated after I added the Wynns DPF cleaner and drove for 50mils on M1. It was a hard time, with many times of stop-start on hard shoulde.. After that, I didnt add any additives till now 15/09/2016 and the same problem shows again in the congesting M25. The OCD added additional 3000 mils (80% motorway driving, normally 6th & 70mph) since the last DPF treatment. (I found that the Wynn's is required every 3rd tank in the instructions) I did the same way as before, and it is now working well as last time. I also notice the improvement of my feeling in engine and the turbo lap. I think the DPF is mainly blocked. I am planning to add the Wynn's in the next few tanks then 3rd tank as it suggest in the instruction. I also think about the reasons of it. As my driving is mostly motorway, it's very weird that I still suffering from the DPF problem. After I solved the problem, I start to looking in the data that read from OBD2. I found that the fuel consumption is actually not very high in motorway count in Liter/hour (under 10L/h, unless during my regeneration 3rd gear/60mph is 25L/hours). There wasn't much heat generated during the motorway driving (6th gear). Not the least, the exhaust pipe is longer than my friends new mini SD, and the bottom of EGR is exposed underneath, which makes the heat radiate fast. What I want to do next is using exhaust heatshield to cover all the pipe after turbo and all the DPF. I dont know how much it could help. The winter is coming. I hope it could keep the DPF warm enough. Please leave any suggestion & comments. BW,
  10. Hi All Hope all is well. I have a lexusis220d and have owned it for a year and i can say i love it. But due to lot of short commutes I am thinking of buying a petrol or a hybrid lexus. mine is a 2010 Se-i Navigation. So my choice now is to go for a 2011 lexus IS250 Advance Auto. Or a 2010 Lexus GS450h . I am sort of leaning towards the gs as it is an amazing machine. So here are my questions. . Does the GS450h match the mpg offered by IS250? lets assume i am a decent driver with light foot. (a diesel user though never owned a petrol) . Can I go for a 2010 (pre reg 59) plate GS450h se with 72000 miles but i can see one service missing for around 20,000. and most recent service history was done jan2015 so it is over due on age but not millage. the dealer will service it when selling. What should I look for? Should I buy? what are typical ownrshp cost betwn 70k to 120k miles apart from service? . Another choice is a 2011 (61) lexus is250 Advance auto Nav offered via lexus dealer but non-approved when questioned the lexus dealer said they cannot sell cars that are more thn 3yr old so they sell it via lexus but no warranty. I will have to pay 400 for the warranty. Sounds a but dodgy but it is a genuine lexus dealer i checked but advertised via sister company. The miles the car done is 26000 for a 2010 i thought it is low. It has full service history though done on time. final option keeping my 220d. only thing is my commute is around 3mils + 3mils every day. i do go out every week to cinema shopping which is around 5miles away. May once or twice a month i will go for a long distance 45miles. My car has not had any issues yet. I get around 31 to 35mpg for weekly commute around 45 on long distance please help. Thanks
  11. Hello All, I never believed that such thing would ever happen, but I have "almost" recommended IS220d to my friend. Obviously, I have mentioned all my reservations towards the car. And in other hand I have always pointed out in the past that IS220d is not generally bad car, but it is not suitable for city driving and short journeys. But here is the story: Guy is looking for first car, not too expensive, not too powerful (not to much to insure) and reasonably economical, but not fort focus or fiesta or something with 1.2 litter engine. His trip is once a week drive London to Leicester on Monday (~120miles) and then back to London on Friday. In Leicester work is 2 minutes on foot, so unlikely to drive at all, maybe one or 2 trips to local shops for 2 miles. He doesn't mind diesel and actually prefers Manual. I was advocating for IS250 to him for a while, but during our last discussion I just couldn't find any arguments to kill IS220d. Especially, 2008 SE-L, with Moonroof, ML and Navigation/reverse camera, 63k miles, FLSH for £2800. I just tough you might going to be able to help me with some argument which IS220d would be still inferior to IS250, but taking his requirements I am really struggling with arguments except of being reluctant to admit the truth.
  12. Have seen some Genuine Lexus IS250 F-Sport UK Xenon Headlights (L+R) on eBay these are genuine OEM ones. are these a straight swap onto a 2008 IS220d? Here red is the item ref 182082856050
  13. Hey guys, seen on the forum a while ago that on the lexus is 06 onwards you can change the centre console display unit lights from there factory green option to white & blue - to match the speedo cluster. Does anyone have any ideas how much this is or how easy it can be done? From what i understand it involves some soldering etc. any info is much appreciated. cheers, Simon.
  14. Hi I own an is220d and I'm facing an issue regarding the driver side window on the motorway. My window is fully up but I can still hear wind coming through. Has anyone else faced this problem and resolved it? If so can someone get back to me and let me know? Thanks!
  15. Hi all. Last week I purchased a low mileage 2006 IS220d. Today I made a long journey on the motorway. At 70mph with the cruise control on I was only averaging 37 - 39mpg Is this normal? I would have thought it would be higher than that? If this isn't right, does anyone have a suggestion as to why it is so low?
  16. Hi All, I've recently bought my third Lexus - an IS220d sport after owning and loving a few IS200 sports (bullet proof) and since i've owned the car around a week or so, i've had the 'Check VSC, Warning Triangle and the ECU' light give me grief and forcing the car into Limp mode... Having dealt with it by resetting the codes via battery discount and after multiple google searches, checked the fuel cap and all that jazz - I bought myself a code reader. I was actually excited for it to come on so I could get the fault code... and just my luck it did. Anyways - i diagnosed it and i got the error code p2002: DPF below threshold bank... This wouldn't bother me so much, as it would be an obvious fix - sort out the DPF. However, according to service history with the car it has been deleted and DPF emulated from a previous owner. My question is - why am i getting the DPF error code if it has been deleted and emulated? * Emulator broken/shoddy job? * Exhaust blocked? * EGR needs some love? * Boost leak? * Other? Anyone got any advice/experience on this issue? It'd be greatly appreciated! I cant deal with this limp mode every 100 miles or so... its annoying! Many thanks, Dan
  17. Hi All, New to the club, recently purchased a IS220D 2007 and all seems fine, except one annoying thing. There is no sound coming out of the Radio, everything seems to be working except the volume function itself, as in radio seems to be playing, CD too, but the volume doesn't go up or down at all, not even via the steering wheel, no numbers going up or down on the display, the volume button switches radio on and off fine, and all other buttons seem to work too. It is just literally the volume function and therefore no sound coming out. Can any1 help? :S Regards - Riz :)
  18. Hello All, This is my first post in Lexus forum so sorry if I have missed similar thread. My main question is - where to buy IS (2nd gen.) "Windshield Mouldings". There is thread in US forum how to replace them, but first I need to find where to buy them and it seems there are nothing available in UK. (e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEXUS-DRIVER-PASSENGER-WINDSHIELD-MOULDING/dp/B00RDLRU5C) Part numbers are (at least US ones, probably EU/UK ones are the same): Right - 75551-53020, Left - 75552-53020, Clips - 75545-53011. There are few in ebay and amazon from US and the shipping costs more than the moldings themselves. Breakers are not a good option either as I assume used moldings not going to be much better than the ones I have. Additionally, it seems they are kind of disposable. For this reason I would prefer to go for a new ones. I guess Lexus meant to design them so blue clips breaks when removing and the moldings can be re-installed, but in reality every second clip of molding breaks as well. If there is anyone in UK who have replaced them please let me know where did you get them from, maybe somebody knows the price from the dealers? I guess my final option is to glue the broken molding pins to the clips and instal the clips as normal. If anyone have any suggestions or have experience with this thing please let me know, thank you in advance, Linas
  19. HI, I have a 2006 is220d with 175,000. Its has 3 head gasket replacements now in the last 18months. We (my garage) decided to replace the engine, which was attempted this week. The replacement engine is also a lemon and has been taken back out. Do any of you guys know where is a good place to buy engines (not recons) the breakers we tried were varying in price, but preferably after an engine from a rear end shunt as an example. Really struggling & wondered if someone else had used somewhere good please? Jamie
  20. Hi All, I am looking to change all four shockers on my lexus IS220D as it has got advisory notice during MOT for Oil leaks on one of them. My local garage told me that existing shockers on my lexus are electromagnetic ,so these should be replaced by electromagnetic ones only otherwise error message will come up on Dashboard. I did try to find these shockers but unfortunately could not get anything on internet. though i found below post on the same topic... http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/84049-rear-shock-absorber-lexus-is-220d-alternatives/ but could not conclude whether these are electromagnetic ones or not? I wonder ,do anyone of you have got any idea about them at all? Can i use KONI FSD kit at all? anyone who might have used these on his/her lexus. I can only find below front and rear shock absorbers with their respective part numbers but not sure whether these are electromagnetic or not? Toyota 4853080413 - Rear SHOCK ABSORBER Toyota 4852059285 - Front SHOCK ABSORBER Any help regarding this would really be appreciable... thanks , R
  21. Hi, The DVD loader on my audio unit is not working. It says DVD error and seems to be stuck on bay 2 of the DVD changer (will not let you select another bay).
  22. Hi I bought a used Lexus is220d 2010 with 45k on the odo. I changed it from a VW passat highline tdi2.0 (170). Few things that I observed are The car is noisy from 0 to 30mph and very quite on higher speed. And I found Changing gear from 1 to 3 there is noise and some jugger inside the gear box. When idle the car vibrates. I can feel it on the gear stick, Seats and doors. In terms of performance not as smooth as the tdi. The car struggles on the first two gears and the 3rd, 4th and 5th are very long and 6th is only usable above 80. Is this all normal for the car?? .. I got two independent mechs to have a look and they all say it is normal. But cannot accept the vibrations in the car it is way more from what I was used to. (I do understand the longitudinal alignment could create such vibrations but it is too much of it) I wonder if there is anything wrong in the car causes this ? Has anyone has such problems. Please discuss. I also have a AR6400-D handy which I am going to use to clean the fuel system. Before this I just need to know others experience in the car. If everything I said is normal i may not bother to use it.
  23. I wonder if anyone come across with their Lexus IS220D making creaking noises from suspension when going over bumps. It doesn't creak when you drive over rough surface etc. It sounds like coming from the front area. The strange thing is noise cannot be recreated by pushing up and down at either side of the shock bar area while it is not moving. I even shake the car on MOT test plate machine. It does not make a sound. Garage couldn't find any problem with ball joint, links, coils and shock absorb bar. It is really frustrating that it creaks like hell only when you drive over the speed bump. The steering feel absolutely fine. No abnormal behavior going over pot holes or cornering. Mechanic thinks it might be sway bar/anti roll bar bushes but it is just a guess. I don't wanna be attacking the wrong target. Just to let you now, I have already lube and sprayed copper grease and Lithum grease to sway bar bush from outside but I haven't taken it out and grease it.. It doesn't make any improvement at all. Any suggestion or help will be greatly appreciated. I am now loosing sleep over it.
  24. Hello everyone.. I am new to this forum. Now I have seriously annoying squeak coming from driver side leather seat near torso area when you sit, on right hand side to be precise. Everytime car goes over bump, it makes squeak, apprently coming from foam. I think other IS220D suffered too but I couldn't find any DIY solution except from going to dealer and get the entire seat replaced which won't happen in my case. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also how do I clean foggy LCD panel on CD player? Thanks.
