  1. Hello All, My car just developed interesting fault. Surely expensive to fix, but interesting in a way to investigate and nail the real cause. So to start with - few days ago (like Tuesday this week) my A/C started making some noise ... like squeakyish/grinding noise, but it was intermittent (happened like 2-3 times altogether). I had a service coming up 2 days later so didn't really bothered to investigate, nor had an opportunity. Thought, "if there was something obvious Lexus service will pick it up" and if not I will take a look over weekend. So Lexus Woodford did service an MOT, got all green except one amber. They said my drilled rotors are far too lavish, hence they put amber to accompany them (to clarify it is amber for "non-genuine front rotors and pads", they are Mintex drilled discs with Brembo OE-equivalent low dust pads - will post new thread in Modifications forum). The rest are all green including "Aircon / heating / ventilation" as below: On my way home from the dealer, I have realised my windows are starting to steam-up and the air from A/C is getting hot... clicked on "Windows Defogging" and the realised that A/C light is flashing > stopped by traffic lights and clicked "Off" and "Windows Defogging" again to restart A/C. This resulted in the weirdest thing ever in any car I have owned > the engine RPM started jumping and when I have clicked on "Off" again the engine cut-off as well (see video below). You can notice A/C light is solid while RPM is jumping. From under the bonnet it looks like compressor clutch tries to engage unsuccessfully or that compressor is actually completely stuck. Actually, I can see little sparks coming out of the pulley (see video below - sorry it is bit dirty ... Lexus panels does great job keeping all that dirt and rust inside). It only happens on idle, if I am cruising at speed then A/C light starts flashing straight away. Now based on the fault description I have found that this fault can be caused by faulty compressor clutch coil. I do believe this is not the case, because faulty coil would result in flashing A/C light and as well would fail to engage compressor, but in my case it seems it is trying to engage compressor and after multiple failures gives up and starts flashing. If I drive at speed trying to turn A/C results in flashing A/C light straight away - no impact to RPM etc. So my second guess would be that compressor itself is mechanically faulty/stuck and engaging clutch causes stress to the belt and RPM starts dropping. This would be sad news.. as replacing compressor would cost 10x more than just replacing coil. Any other thoughts? As well wouldn't you expect Lexus dealer to pick up such faults? I am not joking .. it happened 3,5 miles away from dealer after “All Green verdict”... Any help or opinion would be greatly appreciated, thanks
  2. Hi all, Anyone in the North East can recommend a really good garage in the above areas for service and MOT? Just the guy I currently use is retiring end of next month and need to find a new mechanic and garage. regards Joel
  3. The 50% wiper offer is on again from Euro car parts as a flash sale on their site .I have ordered the Denso 1@ 20ins and 1@ 22ins same as OE wipers at a bargain price Other makes are available Dave
  4. Hi All, recently noticed my Radio CD Player text lights (info on radio channel, CD text etc.) are flickering, and it flickers with the music. Is it a loose connection and is it an easy fix? Thanks
  5. My first post so be gentle. I'm 30+ male and due to moving from countries to countries for much of my teens and 20s and general reluctance living in cities, I somehow managed to live without a car until now. Happy to get my license last month and currently looking to buy my first car. My budget is under £5000. I've been looking all around, and although my head says I should stick to some standard economical Honda or Skoda to learn how things work, none of them excites me one bit. And I really love the design of the GS300 or IS250. With my budget, I can probably only afford a 10 year old model with just under 100k mileage. What do you say? Should I go ahead and reward myself a Lexus or am I blind-walking into a money pit?
  6. Hi and good evening I wanted to join the forum and introduce myself, my name is Michael, 33 from North Lincolnshire. I have just become the 3rd owner of this very very tidy IS250 SE-L that I bought from my local Marshall's Honda garage in Hull. For an old motor, wow has this got some kit! I have recently learned that it is the top spec model or very close to, it has every gadget I could possibly ask for and more. This car was bought as a 'stop gap' between other cars and I had planned on selling it after approx 4-5 months, but after under a week of ownership I think I'll hang on to this gem 😁 A few details and spec: 42K miles 2 previous owners Full and complete Lexus service history Sat Nav Reversing camera ML premium sound system Electric everything Xenon's etc etc The very first thing I did was give the exhaust trims a sorting out and polish, they clearly hadn't been cleaned since new 😳🙊 I am fitting a new pollen filter tomorrow as I suspect that needs doing, I have also just ordered a set of boot gas struts as mine are clearly worn with the effort it takes to open the boot 🤣 I am also on the lookout for an updated sat nav disc. I hope you like the car and I'll keep this updated in the appropriate section. The dealers photos: And the photos I took on the day of viewing So when I got it home - Exhausts before and after
  7. Hi guys.. Noticed some rattling during audio playback and noticed its coming from my parcel shelf. I think this unfortunately means that my Subwoofer is blown. I have seen some mentions of Mark Levision Sub-woofer blowing on other Lexus cars. Would like to know if anyone has first hand experience with this and can advise how best ro resolve. I have seen a pre-owned one going for 120 on eBay however other people mention using a repair kit. It seems as though you have to remove the back seats to get access from the guides I have seen. Would really appreciate some advise!
  8. Hello All, Just wanted to check where you guys are getting you parts. It seems there are no problem to find front caliper slider pins set: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-IS250-2005-2015-2x-Front-brake-caliper-guide-slider-pin-kits-S7291CA-2-/332227526316?hash=item4d5a4dbeac:g:7L4AAOSwAO9ZUDwl Though, I would argue £30 is not exactly cheap for few (non genuine) bolts... However, it is even worse for rear - I cannot find any for sale in UK (P/N: 04948-30210). The only ones I could find are either in eBay (from Latvia) or in Amazon (from US), few weeks wait time and £30 for 4 pins (not even genuine)... Does anyone know the place to buy them in UK? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Rear-Brake-Pad-Fit-Kit-for-Lexus-GS300-GS350-IS220-IS350-04948-30210-/191933262878?epid=1579643550&hash=item2cb01d2c1e:g:6BYAAOSwXrhXmjN2 Amazon US ones are actually genuine toyota and cheaper, but still few weeks wait: https://www.amazon.com/Lexus-04948-30210-Disc-Brake-Pad/dp/B00KWDX7V4 One question on the side - what are the size of Lexus locking wheel nuts? M12x1.5? (bloody tire place hamered my ones in place so hard I will have to extract them and replace all 4 now..)
  9. Hi all, So today we finally get a warm day in the north east so I put my air con to cold for the first time. (I run my air con all year round) however when I was expecting nice ice cold air I was just getting cold air compared to the passenger side that was getting all the nice ice cold air. Both sides were set to low but only one side gets the ice cold air. called Lexus Teesside who said it could be the Air mix servo that could be sticking and not going down all the way to low. Has as anyone experienced this issue before if so did it cost a lot to get fixed or is there a hack to reset it? Regards Joel
  10. So I was promising for a while to add pictures of the job BCS did on my calipers, to be honest I have received calipers few weeks ago, but didn't have the time to get them fitted ...and they are still in the box to this day. Just thought I am going to add before and after pictures and say few words regarding the work BCS did on my calipers, hopefully will find some time to fit them and post how they look fitted on the car. As well I wanted to say special tanks to @gaborpinter, because I wouldn't be able to do it without his help! So to begin with, I believe BCS did great job on the calipers - the "electroplate gold" finish looks great, and I believe it will match well with my brake disks (which have gold anti-rust coating as well). Overall, I would rate BCS experience 4/5*. There are few reason I am taking away 1*, and they all subjective in the way, but I believe overall justifies the rating I am giving: during the time my calipers were with them they have sent me several cheesy marketing e-mails... not that I got offended, but e-mails were not the most professional and most importantly simply unnecessary. It did not impact the quality of the work in any way, so that is I guess I can deal with that. gold finish is great, but in the places where they have polished the face it seems they could have spend 5 seconds more to make it perfect, it does not affect the function, it won't be visible - but that is exactly what separates "perfect" 5/5* and "great" 4/5*. after sending calipers I have called and asked if they can drop the hardware I have included in parts cleaner - they definitely have large industrial cleaner and dropping few bolts in it would have made no difference - the lovely lady on the phone ensured it won't be the problem, but in my package I found just a bag full of rusty bolts.... ammmmhh. Again - it is very hard to criticise them for such minor thing and it would have been free-bee anyway, but maybe instead of sending me 5 cheese e-mails they could have noted that little request and made me a favour?! finally, they asked me for additional payment of £52 for 2 things - one slider pin was stuck and one bolt was broken. I knew it was the case, however I have paid not only for "premium paint", but full "re-manufacturing" as well, as such I have expected the broken bolt and stuck pin to be part of standard "re-manufacturing" job. I have raised that and was assured that it was not the case and that I need to make extra payment for the part and bolt removal - ok, fair enough. Now I have received the calipers and I can see that they have replaced all bolts and all slider pins and that really got me confused. So was it part of re-manufacturing or not?! - I tend to believe it was, but they get it confused with painting service... maybe they just need to be more clear what is included and what is not. Anyway, total costs was £469 + £52.. and overall I think it was worth it - not 100% perfect, but still very very good. In perspective that is what Lexus would charge for standard front calipers alone. Here you get good quality paint finish and matching (if not exceeding) quality re-manufacturing (note: most of calipers are refurbished anyway). If I would have chosen standard paint it would have been £100 less, but with premium paint they give 10 years warranty. Anyway enough talking - this is what calipers looked before: And that is what I have received after: + bag of rusty bolts which took me hours to de-grease and clean:
  11. Hi folks, How do I stop my headlights turning yellow after they have been polished? Also my alloy wheels are a bit kerbed and ratty. There is corrosion on them so full refurb would be costly I am thinking of fitting some wheel trims to improve their appearance (car is light blue metallic.) Any recommendations or thoughtd? Thanks in advance

  13. Hi to all on the forum I am looking to buy an IS 250 and this is the place to get the info I need so Hello and happy forum posting
  14. Dear all, Just after a little bit of info. I am after a rear tyre for the IS. She currently has Bridgestone on her which is what Lexus put on her when I purchased her. I only need one for the passenger side as the other still has 4mm of tred left. Just wondering what everyone's opinion was. I am after a quiet tyre and eventually will replace the set once she needs them. What's your opinion?
  15. Hi all, I've been browsing the site for a little while and I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2010 Lexus IS250 F-Sport. I've had mostly Honda's and have always liked Lexus but haven't been able to afford one. I've had a good read of this thread - http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/108747-what-to-look-out-for-lexus-is250-2007-model-year/ Were any of these issues fixed in a later 2010 model that I'm looking at possibly? Or was it an exhaustive list for this model, regardless of the year? The only other thing I'm factoring in is the alloy wheel refurbishment which seems inevitable and also the exhaust which would be replaced by a Tanabe exhaust I think as the standard replacement is so expensive. Any other advice apart from what I've read in that thread? The car I'm looking at buying has full Lexus History and has under 50k mileage. I would look to carry on the Lexus servicing as it appears as though they have fixed price servicing. Thanks,
  16. Hi All, Newbie here! I used to have a 2003 IS200 which I traded in for a Saab 9-3 Aero. I miss my Lexus so I'm now looking for an IS250, I have heard that the trim levels can be quite confusing so does anyone have any tips/things to look out for? I have budgeted around £5k for one
  17. Hi all, I'm new to the forum and also the Lexus brand. I've just recently bought a 2010 IS250 F Sport with 34k (now 35k) miles. It's a commuter car for work as I drive on the M25 and A2 everyday in Kent, so needed a nice auto for the daily 64 mile round trip. It's Argento Silver with a lot of options on it as I wanted one with the nav and memory seats, saw plenty without them too. Only took pics this morning, needs a good wash, clay bar and wax: Loved it so far, very smooth and comfortable. The suspension seems a bit stiffer now I'm living with it daily, but it's still very compliant. It's more the potholes or nasty ridges in the road that vibrate through the cabin. Just sorted the door unlocking last night as it wouldn't open the passenger door when I stopped or opened my door. Now the doors lock when starting the engine and shifting out of park and lock when shifting into park on stopping the engine, perfect! MPG was good on the way back from Stockport, sitting at around 40-43 mpg over 250 miles of mostly motorway. On a new tank of more realistic town and motorway, it's around 32-33 mpg which I think is very good considering the engine size and being an auto. Things I love about the car - the looks, the seats, the 18 inch alloys, rear camera, bluetooth streaming, electric seats and steering column, memory function, keyless entry and start. A quick query while I have some attention, do people use the ECT power mode switch or leave it as standard? Only just read about it last night on this forum, elsewhere and also in the Lexus manual. Any more hints and tips would be greatly appreciated!
  18. I have owned my is250 2011 for 1 year now. Full main dealer history. 58000 miles. Main service has been done. Over the last few months when braking and steering at a low speed there are a couple of clunks that sound like they are coming from the front drivers side wheel. I look it to lexus Hatfield and under warranty they replaced the shock absorber and top mount. The car seemed to be ok for a while but not long ago the clunk noise has appeared again. It also only happens when the engine has warmed up. Some people have suggested the pads are moving but the pads and discs are reasonably new so shouldn't be moving yet. Any ideas
  19. Hi all, winter is fast approaching what do people do to there cars to stop the windows misting up as soon as you get in the car?
  20. Hi all, As it’s been forecast for strong winds like an idiot I opened my bonnet to top up with washer fluid! A gust of wind managed to remove the front plastic engine covers along with clips. i know the clips are poor however are any people using alternative clips to hold down there engine covers? I know most people have some missing or all of them so wondering what are people are using. Have looked on eBay and ones I have seen look like the poor ones I have already. cheers in advance Joel

  22. I have a Lexus is250 auto 2005 which has an issue with the brake servo & brake master cylinder. Lexus have informed me that both need replacing as brake fluid has leaked into the servo. I have questioned whether this repair should be covered under the recall from 2011 even though the car was taken in for the modification. I have sourced a 2nd hand unit on ebay but i'm unsure of the part number. The part number of my unit reads: 1310B0 - 15241 and the 2nd hand one reads: 131010 - 15241 does anyone know if this unit is compatible
  23. Just bough myself main beam Osram Xenarc Cool Blue Intense D4S for £41 (standards price ~ £80). Sadly, was limited deal on Amazon I believe 2 items left, but the time I bough and none by the time I finished making the post. Can anyone advice on High Beam? I know there is part thread just above, but it seems nobody has any recommendations for high beam?
  24. Just spotted these for sale on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263058132067 Set of alloys for Is250/is300h, apparently new and unused, London E3 area Nothing to do with me, just spotted them. Depending on the reserve, could be a bargain for someone.
  25. Hi, New Lexus owner here, bit of a step change in comfort! 25 year old Mazda 626 > '57 black IS250 Petrol automatic. Trusty but finally too rusty Mazda has gone to the recycling centre. While sorting out the MOT fail my brother (trusting) lent me his IS250SE (his spare car!) for a week and a half and that did it! Loved driving it and was lucky to pick up my IS privately with 69,000 miles on it regularly serviced, it's been doing 6,000 odd miles a year for the last 5 years. Mazda gets it's Cat removed and weighed in....... Shiny black IS Brother and I work in the same office, (small scale Lexus owners club)
