  1. Hey fellow car enthusiasts! 🚗💨 So, I've been on the hunt for a new ride here in the UK, specifically on the lookout for that tried-and-true Toyota/Lexus hybrid powertrain. But here's the kicker – I'm on a tight budget, capping it at £8K. My top contenders? The Yaris (not exactly blowing me away in the looks department), the Avensis (definitely caught my eye), and the Lexus CT 200h. I've been scouring for something with lower mileage. Then, lo and behold, I stumble upon a 2014 Lexus IS 300h Executive Edition, priced well below my budget, and it's got me swooning. The exterior checks out, and after a thorough car history check, no accidents or repair history to worry about. Took it for a spin, and it drives like a dream – no odd sounds, smooth as silk, and brakes like a champ. I'm sold... until I pop the hood. Talk about a letdown. I was hoping for a well-maintained engine bay, but alas, my heart sank. But you know what? I'm feeling adventurous, so I decided to take the plunge and snag the car. Now, before I make it my daily driver, I want to make sure I'm not missing anything crucial under the hood. Any tips or advice on what to look out for or any upgrades I should consider? Appreciate the help, folks! 🛠️
  2. Does anyone know where to get replacement wing mirror glass for a 2017 IS300H other than from Lexus direct and does anyone know if it’s the same size and fit as previous IS300H models or any other IS models such as the 200 or 250? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  3. Hi All, Recently imported a Lexus (is300h 2017) and I cannot use the infotainment system as it displays a "Unable to load data, please consult dealer" message (in Japanese). I personally don't care much about the built-in Navigation but want to use the system (for music, bluetooth, calls etc). Also I believe it has the premium sound package the car has a mouse control and not a knob and there is no micro SD card with the car. Has anyone faced this issue before? What are some possible solutions without going to the main dealer?
  4. Hi All, Can I get some opinions on tyres to put on my IS300h. I currently have Dunlop Maxx RT on all corners as I did not like the firm ride from the original Bridgestone's. They're not bad, but I find they wear a little quicker than other tyres I have had and they suffer from crawing (I think its called when it slides on the edge of the tyre when you full lock). I'm currently considering: - Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 - Bridgestone Turanza T005 (which I believe are new and softer than the previous Turanza's I had) Any feedback/opinions, would be great. Also, my car is an F-Sport. Front wheel tyres are 225/40/R18 rears are 225/35/R18 and are much more limited in choice and more expensive than fronts. Does anybody know if you can use 225/40/R18 on the back as well or it will cause issues? Lastly, I need to change a TPMS sensor. Lexus have quoted me £86 for the one ands my mechanic can program for another £40. Has anybody used a non Lexus sensor and did it work ok? Or should I not risk it? I find their parts are exceptionally expensive. It's £210 per sensor supplied and fit at my local Lexus dealership. Cheers, Ken
  5. Hello guys, I have had my IS300h for a little while now, about 4 months. I am so careful with parking it anywhere and am just curious as to if anyone could give me any insight on whether the IS300h cats are being stolen? If they are how much to replace one? Do they have any protection mechanism on them? Are these cars being targetted? Can i park in public places without fearing? Does anyone know where the cat is located in the IS models and if they are safe. Any responses would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Hi, After 185 Miles i'm getting ~30 MPG. Driving mostly in Normal mode and 60-70% of the time on urban roads. Is it normal for a new car? Thanks, Ishay
  7. Hi all, I had an issue with my 2013 is300h causing my air con to delay start while running some diagnostics in the background when I try to turn on the vehicle. This wasn’t the end of the world and was happy to live with it but then the cold air became warm. I was told the Gad needed to be recharged and so I brought it to have this done in a local auto air con specialist. He was happy to tell me it was holding Gad but there seemed to be another issue and they continued to diagnose for an hour and half. Then he came to me saying that they found the issue, the air conditioning amplifier. I got a replacement part and brought it back to the him. They then fitted it and explained it still didn’t resolve the issue and that they would need the vehicle for 24 hours. It now has a new error when started: ‘Check Grille Shutter System’ This error keeps popping up after you clear it, so it is pretty annoying. So, I have the replacement amplifier fitted and I would like to try the old one, just to see if it will get me back to the original issue, of just the diagnostics check and not the ‘Check Grille Shutter System’ I am finding it really hard to be without the car for a day as I have school runs to drop/collect three kids. Does anyone know the location inside the car of the Air Conditioning Amplifier, so that I can swap back to the original part? many thanks in advance
  8. Has anyone bought one of these and installed? https://www.dvdgpsnav.com/aftermarket-lexus-is-250-300h-350-large-touch-screen-android-display-apple-carplay.html
  9. Hello 👋🏻 Last night I discovered that my automatic dome lights don’t work properly on my IS300h. When I unlock the car, open the front/rear Doors or go past the car the dome lights should be on but they don’t work. I can turn them on just manually. I checked for being activated the switch and I saw that is working properly only the lights from the doors courtesy and the lights from the legs. I checked the DOME fuse and is fine. Someone know what the problem is? Thank you!
  10. My car, when doing a slow cruise (foot off brake and gass) and just letting it roll, I hear like screeching. Some guy told me he had the same problem with his Lexus, and another told me it was because the original manufactured brakes from Lexus were "too rough" or something along those lines. Anyone else have or having this issue? P.S. I've had it checked and they said pads and discs were fine.
  11. Hi all, I have a 2013 IS300h and for a while now I have been putting up with the car taking up to 5 presses of the start button to turn the car on. I have tried a new battery in the key (I only have one key, so cannot try another) but it didn’t help any. Has anyone else managed to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance,
  12. Hi All, I have red leather seats in my IS300h which are starting to look a little dull and dry - they looked fantastic when I bought the car 3 years ago. I usually clean/condition them with wipes but I think they need a slightly more intense treatment now. Can anyone recommend a leather cleaner and conditioner I can use on them safely to treat them this summer that they have experience of? Also, can you get touch up pens for the nicks you get on the seats to get them back to the original colour and make them less obvious? Thanks Ken
  13. Hi All, I've noticed the headlamps (the clear casing) on my 2014 IS300h are becoming hazy. It's worse at the top but seems to be working its was down. It's surprising as its only 8 years old and I have a 12 year old Mercedes CLC as well which has totally clear headlamps. Not sure if the spray of screen cleaner you get when you first clean the windscreen is causing this or this is just what happens at 8 years. If anyone else has this problem on their IS300h or knows how to get rid of it permanently or for a good while at least, please let me know as its likely to make the car look quite aged as it goes on. Cheers Ken
  14. Hi there new to the forum but been a browser for a while now. Thought i would let people know just in case like me you were unsure what sizes the wiper blades are on the IS300h. They are 18 Inch 450 MM passenger side and 24 inch 600 mm drivers side. I have just replaced mine with Michelin Hybrid Stealth which have the model numbers MSW12924 drivers MSW12918 passengers for £21.95 on ebay.
  15. Hi everyone, I'm looking to fit a reversing camera to an IS300H 2015 and after taking off the boot lid cover it looks like the wiring is already there. So I was wondering if anyone can point out from the pictures, which specific wires would be for the camera. Cheers.
  16. I've had my 2014 IS300h F-Sport which I bought on 37k miles for 2 years. From 3 weeks into ownership I noticed a squealing/squeaking at low speeds and when braking. Its quite noticeable even when windows are up. As the car was in warranty I took it to my local Lexus dealership. They said that it needed new pads and discs (almost £600). these were changed at the cost of the Lexus I bought the car from as my local dealership said it wouldn't pass MOT as it was. Not long after (within a week) heard the noise again. I too the car back again when my service was due and mentioned it was still happening. They checked at service and said nothing visually wrong so couldn't do anything about it but it had been checked. Plus they said they couldn't hear anything. The noise persisted and I took it back again. This time the guy who deals with me said he'd see if there was anywhere they could grease (as someone had suggested this to me when I posted the issue in here). Again they couldn't hear anything. They gave the car back but again the noise re-appeared. Gradually it feel like the noise was getting worse. Louder and more persistent (as sometimes you don't hear it). It also seems to be more apparent after a left turn and when coming to a full stop but not immediately after starting to drive, but after 10-15 minutes when things warm up. Also seems worse in summer. I contacted Toyota customer services as I am really at my wits end with this after almost 2 years of loud squealing/squeaking EVERY time the car is driven. As it was during our last lockdown they said as soon as able take it back to the dealership and they will have a look at it. I took it in this week as my service was also due and as I drove into the car park there it was loud and clear. Unluckily for me there was nobody there to hear it. I then asked the rep I was seeing to stand in the car park and listen. Moved the car back and forth no sound. Applied the brake no sound. So I asked him to wait while I went around the block to 'warm it up'. When I returned the sound was there again but he had gone inside as they were busy! I got him back out and asked him to go around with me - masks on windows wide open. We drove around the block in perfect silence - no noise AT ALL! I was so frustrated until we finally turned into the car park and there it was loud as ever before I even applied the brake and squealing even more as it came to a stop. He said "ooh that doesn't sound right". Finally! I told him I've had to put up with that for 2 years, every day. Even my wife is irritated by it and she doesn't get irritated, she married me! They had the car from Monday to Friday and changed the passenger side caliper. But apparently, this reduced the noise only so they changed the other one too. I paid for the extended warranty so this went through that. My wife picked up the car on Friday as I was unwell and they said to her the problem should be solved. After having it back 3 times and suffering the disappointment of it coming back I didn't hold my breath. Lo and behold, my wife took the kids out this morning and there was the noise again! I don't know what to do anymore and I am seriously contemplating cutting my losses and trading the car in somewhere which will lose me a good chunk of the £17k I paid for it. I will of course contact Lexus again but don't know how much more they will do (they quoted the caliper change at £500 each). If anybody has any advice or has had the same issue and solved it somehow please let me know. I'm not mechanically minded so can't take off and clean anything - and to be honest I shouldn't have to as I have had far cheaper cars with no issues whatsoever. I thought I was trading up! Any help would ne appreciated! Cheers
  17. Hi All, The passenger dipped beam on my IS300h has stopped working. Lexus has quoted me £125 to change just that one side. They say its not the light unit but the bulb. Looking online I can get the bulbs for around £40 each. I also found some HID bulbs called 'OSRAM Night Breaker Laser Xenarc' which are £120 for a pair from autobulbsdirect.co.uk. Can anyone please advise if its relatively easy to change the bulbs myself or I shouldn't even attempt? Also, does anyone have any experience with these bulbs? I'm thinking if its £120 for 2 and its easy to change I may as well change both myself and get the better performance these bulbs are supposed to provide as TBH the lights aren't currently anything to write home about. Lastly, if anyone could advise if they've had any issues with error messages after changing bulbs? Funnily enough, I received no error messages after the current bulb failed (which is very strange to me) I only noticed on a reflection. If you have had error codes let me know as if it may be the light unit malfunctioning, I'd rather they change the bulb and see that's the case than I do it and they say its happened because I've used aftermarket bulbs. Thanks Ken
  18. Hi guys, I just got information from Lexus Ireland (M50 North garage) that to change the LFA style display from miles to kilometers they would need to change the full display and code the new one which would cost me more than 5.000eur. I find this really strange. How come an electronic part needs to be replaced to change this type of information? I could change this in my BMW easily, for example. I like Lexus quality but their costumer service and maintenance costs are absolutely ridiculous. Can anyone confirm that in fact the only way to change the odometer from miles to kilometers is to change the full display? Note: I'm talking about the odometer where the mileage of the car is accounted. I know that we can change mpg to kpl (or l/100km).
  19. Hi, Every time I service my IS300h, they suggest I service and re-gas the air conditioning, its required every 2 years they say. I usually resist, but after having the car for 3 years and not knowing when it was last done, I got it re-gassed at my last service in Feb. As the weather was cold I didn't really notice anything, but now its warming up I have noticed that having the temperature set to 20 degrees on auto(which is where it was last summer), the car still seems hot. I have to manually adjust it done to about 18.5 to feel cool. Mentioned it to the guy I deal with at Lexus and he said oh that's normal, he outs it done to lo when he gets in and then adjusts later? I've never done that with a car that has auto climate control. I usually set a temp and it adjusts to it. It blows out cold hard for a while and then settles down when it reaches the desired temp and just maintains. Currently at sub 20 degrees the car still feels warm. Not sure what they have done or if they are using different coolant now for some reason but the performance shouldn't be worse than it was pre service should it? If I've got it wrong please let me know, but climate control should adjust itself right otherwise what's the point? I'm supposed to take it to them to see on Thursday but I'm almost thinking what's the point? They'll probably just tell me its normal and to turn the temp all the way down then up again. Cheers, Ken
  20. Hi all, I have had my IS for around four months now and have been having on and off trouble with the radio regarding the sound cutting out. I had thought it was linked to the active sound so I turned that off in the sound settings, it seemed to have fixed the problem for about 2 or 3 months but it has happend again. It normally lasts for a day or two and then comes back on (the sound) but I would like to get this proplem resolved asap so I booked it in with Lexus. Has anyone on here at the same experience with the IS media system? and if so how did you resolve the issue? Cheers.
  21. Hello, I was wondering if it would be possible to change my rear bumper and put the one of the 200T + diffuser, of course i would like much more the MY2017, but the one before would also be ok. Does anyone know if it would be possible? As in Spain we don´t have the 200T version it is also very difficult to get one, and from Lexus Spain they say that it is not possible to order it if i dont have the chassis number of 200T, so im not able to try it neither My idea is if it fits, try to find the rear bumper in UK websites or try to look for someone that can order it for me. Thank you in advance
  22. Loaner car given to me for a day in comparison to my other past cars and Gs 450h mk4. 220 BHP, the naturally aspirated 2.5 Litre 16v Inline 4 petrol engine with electric assistance accelerates this IS 300h to 62 mph in 8.4 seconds and on to a maximum speed of 125 mph I’m now glad I didn’t buy this model given the chance as I find the is 300h as someone who is 6’3 height to be not as snug or spacious as my Gs my left leg hugs the centre console. Originally I was deciding between a Is or Gs and choose the Gs 450h f sport. Also this spec has no mark leverson system and the difference is night and day the mark lev system is a must for audio connoisseurs like myself. It’s the first ever car (I’ve got it on my work truck) I’ve used with active radar cruise control and I loved it wish I had this on my Gs I just have normal cruise control. The is made me feel relaxed knowing the car was keeping its distance by itself wish was nice experience I didn’t test what would happen if there was a stopped car in front on me though. Acceleration is decent but I found in normal mode I was just plodding along tortoise/Sunday driver I had to have it in sport mode the entire time to get any serious sensation of normal spirted speed I’m used to. The infotainment system felt a step backwards bearing in mind my cars 2012. I found the menus bland smaller to read and the physical selector I found i did not like at all it’s similar to the Gs joystick but very very different and I got frustrated the stick was super stiff I did not find it immediately intuitive on how to navigate. On the Gs the stick moves free like a joystick and whatever you need to do you just think and do it where as the is was not so it requires you to twist the circle joystick at various times to go up and down various menus even selecting music left and right was awkward. It seems like they buried the random folder button in a sub menu but if there’s a simpler way to select random play then someone can correct me. The Gs random play option is right infront of you while your in the audio music playing screen which is great and simple! The steering whee controls I also found where not great for me as I have big hands and big fingers on my Gs volume etc have big simple and obvious buttons for their usages and their purposes which I love which I did not find on the is with the tiny wee buttons and several of them on the is 300. Visibility looking out was fine I note the centre mirror seemed extremely Xl large vs any other car ive driven which was good. The thing I hated the most was the pedal physical handbrake near to the brake. Now to be fair I’ve never in fifteen years of driving driven a car with this so alien to me. I struggled to get my head round it and didn’t like even using it. So at red lights I just physically moved the gear stick to park every time instead vs my Gs which uses a no brain work auto electric park break at red lights and when stopping and I don’t have to touch the gear stick at all unless stopped for a few minutes (maybe five minutes?) the car then forces you to put into park physical moving gear stick as a safety feature. The seats where non electric and the side mirrors u have to physically press a button inside the vehicle EVERY TIME to fold them in when you park vs my auto fold in mirrors on my Gs when you lock the car. I do love the look of the car from outside it looks fast and expensively prestigious. I do this review with a pinch of salt as I know this is a base model without all the trimmings of a highly speced model.
  23. Hi, I'm new to the Club, and new to car ownership in fact. In other words, amateur hour here. I bought a 15 plate IS 300h Advance in April with 58k on the odo. In part it was sold to me on the strength that it had 'excellent' tread depth, which was one of my main concerns in general when looking at cars. The dealer sent me a video of the car and demonstrated with the front right the excellent condition of the tyre, zooming in on the treads, and just casually showed the rest. When I received the car, I walked around it, looked at the front right (why of course), and saw they presented it in a nice condition - although the body and windows had dozens of small chips and imperfections, I expected that much. Because it was a Lexus dealer, Lexus Exeter (Snows), which is generally well-regarded even among Lexus owners, and also because I'm a rookie, it never occurred to me that the other tyres might be old. Which they are, just realised today. Worn, cracks along the grooves. Also, this means that the front axle has mixed tyres with different characteristic due to make and age. Is that even legal, and even if so, up to good standards? I'll raise this with the dealer but would also like to ask for your input here. What's my legal position here? Why would only be 1 tyre replaced? Might this imply something, some issue with the axle? Now I'm asking myself what else did I miss, and if I should take it to an independent checkup? How much is that roughly? Thanks for any help, Daniel
  24. Has anyone on here driven a VW Golf GTE? I’ve been looking closely at these online and they look like they might be a very decent replacement for my current CT200h. 28 mile round trip for school run could be pretty much done on electric only at the cost of just over £1. Loads of tech in the highly specced Advance model. All the benefits of an electric car when driven locally with no range anxiety for longer trips when it can be used just like a traditional hybrid. 200HP too and up to 80mph on just electric. The trouble is I really do like my CT and like owning a Lexus.
  25. Hello, Im owning a 2017 IS300h Executive model and planning to place Wheel Spacers in 18 Inch rims. Can some one please let me know what would be the perfect size should I place? Thanks a lot!
