  1. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience/idea's on what could be wrong with my old IS (Which I sold to a friend of mine). Basically, from cold it has real trouble idling, with the revs bouncing up and down and the car almost stalling, which gets a little better when warm but it still not a smooth idle. Also, it will misfire and judder on light throttle between 1000-2000rpm. It seems to go ok when under heavier load. It did throw up an error once and go into limp home, so my friend called a mechanic that said it was the EGR valve and replaced it. When that didn't solve the problem, he thought it might be a faulty part so changed it again - same result. I had a look at this and plugged it into techstream. No fault codes, but I did notice that the pressure of the MAP sensor was dropping into the 50-60 kPa whereas the manual states that it should be between 85-93. So, I fitted a new MAP sensor today. Everything seemed to go well (with the pressure a little over standard in the late 90's) and importantly the car idled smoothly and revved with only the occasional stutter. However, after 3-4 hours my friend went for a drive and it has reverted back to how it was. I am not sure what to suggest next, so has anyone got any ideas? Thanks.
  2. Hey guys, I’m new to this forum and have had my Lexus is200 for a year now. the car has started misfiring from cold to warm yet when at operating temperature the misfire is gone. car only shows the one P0110 code and have changed the air intake sensor which made no difference. any helps appreciated as always.
  3. Hi, RX400h 2008 65k miles Have an issue that the Lexus guys say they haven't seen before. When accelerating hard I get what feels like a misfire. If I continue to push hard the level of charge in the traction battery starts to drop and shows empty withing 3-4 mins. No service or error lights show. On a longer journey last month I did get a service light when I felt the misfire. Lexus did the diagnostics and reset and said it was cylinder 2 slight misfire. Strangely on the journey home the misfire appeared to have gone and the car accelerated cleanly to high speed. Great I thought, its sorted. Sadly not and after 2 days the problem is back. Car drives perfectly in all conditions other than hard acceleration. Lexus have checked all major components and cant find an issue, so have said to continue to drive and see if an error can be forced. Has anyone had a similar issue or any ideas? Cheers Phil
  4. 3rd gen GS300 with 98k miles has occasional rough idle on start up as though not running on all cylinders. It clears under load quickly and is very intermittent. Car has been serviced and had new plugs about 6 months ago. No fault codes showing up. It also seems as though the transmission changes to a higher gear too early. i.e to 5th or 6th at around 1200 rpm at modest speed when it feels like it should hold it for longer. No other problems with the transmission and changes seem smooth enough and works fine on sport/manual shift mode. Seems more like electrical gremlins than mechanical. I have a got a slight blow on the exhaust at the very rear but I cant see that affecting transmission or idle at start up. Any thoughts or obvious things to check. I am not familiar with the GS300 engine and it baffles me how a transmission fluid can be 'for life' and I cant check it. Thanks
  5. It has been a while since my car was serviced so I did a few things. Changed air filter, oil and oil filter. Car runs lovely when first started and driven but if you stop and then restart (lets say for petrol) the car starts misfiring. Initially, it was cylinder 5 reported as misfiring, now it's 1,3 and 5 and a report of bank 2 running lean. I've swapped coils and plugs around but I still have the same problem. Is it just coincidence this has happened since "service" or can they be related.?
  6. Hi all, i would be greatful if you guys could help me please. I have a lexus is200 2002 AUTO - running on lpg.....which is not starting. A little back ground on the issue...the car was constantly misfiing previously but driveable but one day the car ran out of fuel. Once i put fuel in it, it started, but was really shakey! I drove it for 1 mile and then turned it off. After this the car refused to even crank. RAC guy came out and said the timing belt had snapped and it needed towing. I purchased a new timing belt and decided to fit it myself. I changed the belt and as far as i know the timing belt marks were lined up correctly. Crank yellow slit on the '0' and circle on the cam pulley. Once i put evrything back together it cranked over and very reluctantly started then died immediatly after. Previous to the misfires, i changed the coil packs, spark plugs, injectors and also, decatted the exhaust. Diagnosing one thing at a time, all the coil packs are working correctly and so are the spark plugs. I have noticed that 4 cylinders 2,3,4,5 have spark but spark plugs 1, and 6 only spark once?! Then go out. Checked the immobliser and that is all fine...I have NO engine codes at all! Crankshaft sensor Seems to work as when i remove the plug the car does not start but when plugged in , it starts then dies.... sometimes it idles for 20 seconds on one cylinder and then cuts out. When revved, the car revs to around 2k revs but then dies with a loud backfire through the throttle body. Another starnge thing when check compression on all cylinders, with the spark plugs are removed and the engine is cranked cylinder 3 spits out large amounts of fuel! [maybe a seperate issue]....i hope i covered everything guys i am leaning towards the wiring loom as no spark on the plugs 1,6 but we do have voltage??....please help guys i am at a total loss and many hours/money have been spent... look forward to hearing from you guys... many thanks
  7. (Introduction: I'm a Lexus IS200 owner from The Netherlands with few technical skills) For a few weeks now, I've been encountering misfire issues. Here's the pattern: - Engine runs smoothly on a cold start. - When it warms up there are misfires on cylinder 6 (P0306), - eventually followed by misfires on multiple cylinders (P0300, P0302, P0303) as well as the P0174 error code. Mechanic replaced coilpack and spark plug for the 6 (without actually making sure it was broken), yet the problem persisted. Then a compression test was run on the 6th cylinder and it passed. Since I don't want mechanics keep replacing expensive parts without actually have found the cause of the problem, I'm hoping for anyone here to understand the nature of the problem and point me in the right direction to solve it. Many thanks, Louis.
  8. Hi Guys first time posting on the forum but wanted to share my experience. I have a 07 Is220d for almost a year now with 120k. I drive about 400 mile per week motorway driving. When I got the car it wasn't great so got it remapped. I then got it carbon cleaned through the air box and put some fuel cleaner in it to and still not great. Low revs poor. Couldn't get 40mpg no matter what I done. Monday night I decided to pull of the egr valve and it was totally blocked. The fuel cleaner and 1 hour carbon clean was useless. I soaked the egr valve in brake cleaner and also the steel pipe. Used a tooth brush to get as much carbon off the manifold. Put it all back together and I'm now getting 50 mpg at 75mph. Takes any gear at low revs. Different car. It took me about 2 hours and it's only 6 nuts. Hope this helps some of yous.
  9. Hi, I'm new on here but hope someone can help identify a solution to an odd problem with my IS220D. The car is a 2010 reg with around 80k miles on the clock. Fully serviced on schedule by Lexus. Recently needed to have the EGR valve replaced but since then, and progressively getting worse, when the engine is warm there is a marked hesitation when accelerating beyond around 2000 rpm and a complete loss of power. When the car is stationary the engine can be revved throughout its range without hesitation but the problem always occurs when the engine is under load. I can accelerate away from a junction in 1st and through 2nd gear with no problem but when the car is on the move and a similar maneuver is attempted then the problem occurs. It feels like a misfire but I'm at a loss to understand why it would only happen while driving and not when stationary or pulling away. Any thoughts or suggestions? Many thanks
  10. Hi, i'm new on this forum and i have a misfire problem on my beloved Lexus is200 sport V6 2001, that is making me going crazy and desperate. When i first drive the car in the morning (cold engine) the car drives fine with no misfire problems, soon as i stop and turn it of, with the engine already warm, and turn it on back again few minutes after starts the misfire. I read the codes with a obdII and is always the code 1301 ( misfire cylinder 1) and sometimes the code 1171 as well (bank 1 to lean). I've changed the spark plugs, coil packs, check the air pipes and still not sorted. Please any one can help me??? Thanks in advance.
