  1. Just picked up a replacement for my RX400h. A brand new NX300h. I noticed when I got home that only one reverse light was working. Called dealer. They said it was... a feature. ARE YOU FRICKIN' kidding me Lexus!!!! :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: I hate this to be my first post but why is Lexus going backwards??? My RX400h had two reverse lights and (I think) two fog lights. This seems to have only one of each. When I see a car with only one reverse light I always think its broken. I always thought it was a legal requirement too...like having two brake lights. Cars have had two reverse lights since the 1960's.. Why oh why the retrograde step? I just don't get it? Feeling let down and angry...sob...
  2. Hi all, A friend with a 1996 Range Rover that also has factory fit air suspension stopped by for Easter lunch last weekend. I noticed when they left (he had his missus and his two lads) and he started the Range up, the air suspension was really fast raising the car by an inch at least at all 4 corners within less than 3 seconds. My RX in comparison would be compressing away for a good 10 seconds-ish to level the car after a 3 hour or so stop... If I leave it standing all weekend and go to drive it 2/3 days later, the compressor runs for a good 30-40 seconds. Is this normal? What do other RX's do? Mine seems to subtly raise the car without the occupants realising (other than compressor noise) the Range was so fast it was almost violent (lol) and the occupants would definitely "feel" it raise up. Thanks, Chris.
  3. I’ve now owned my 2021 RX 450h Premium with Tech and Safety packs for three months, and I’ve covered 1500 miles. I thought I’d go through some of the things that irritate me about it - there aren’t many, but I’m sure other members have things about their RX that similarly just frustrate on such a fantastic car. For me, those things are; - the rear parcel shelf. I’d much prefer a proper fitted shelf as in my previous NX. The retractable version in the RX feels cheap and is a bit of a faff to use; - the forward view. I find the windscreen pillar is in a very awkward position based on where I sit; - the location of the ‘brake hold’ button, and the climate controls. Too low down for easy use on the move; - practicality. The boot (with seats up) isn’t as big as you’d think and the sloping rear screen really cuts practicality. With the rear seats folded, it can take a LOT of stuff though. I think that’s about it. The drive, the comfort and the build quality are all superb. I’m loving RX life, and the addition of the touchscreen combined with Apple CarPlay has been a game changer for me in terms of using the tech.
  4. Parts: • 2 X Tailgate gas struts from SGS Engineering (2 X £44.10 inc next day delivery) http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/lexus/rx/gsc2619-lexus-rx400-tailgate-strut Tools: • 12mm spanner/ratchet/torque wrench • Dremel • Needle nose pliers Time: ~30 minutes Steps: First off the replacement gas struts don’t come with the ball joint bracket for attaching to the car/tail gate. So you will have to reuse your old ones. This is probably a two man job as you will need someone holding the tailgate open while you work. I did it by myself using a 6ft step ladder held firmly in place with supports. Do this at your own peril though! I turned off the auto tailgate motors from the little button in the glove box. With the tailgate open, remove the original gas struts from the car first, then the tailgate by removing the nuts. The next challenge here is the old struts are kept very firmly on the old ball joint with an o-ring and there doesn’t seem to be any obvious way to remove. I had to grind enough of the outer ball joint away until I could see the o-ring.. then prise this out with some needle nose pliers. It got easier as I did the other joints and I got more efficient with how much I had to remove. Once you’ve freed all 4 ball joints. Re-attach them to the car and tail gate. Tighten to 8Nm if you have a torque wrench. You can use some locktight on these if you’re worried about them coming loose. Remove the retaining pins from the new struts and pop them in to place starting with the tailgate end first. Re-insert the retaining pins when done. I put a small bit of grease inside each one. Try opening and closing the tailgate a few times to ensure everything works and it’s well supported. Then turn the auto tailgate back on again from the glovebox.
  5. Hi everyone, I have recently moved to NW London (HA5) and I am looking for any recommendations anyone can make for, Garages to do services and general maintenance Bodyshop which can do a deep polish and fix general marks etc Place to buy parts such as brake discs etc I really appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks in advance, Simon
  6. Hi, I owned a Lexus IS 200 early into when they first came out around late 1990s I think it was, loved it. I now have £10000 budget (maybe a bit more) for a second car and would like an RX. I’m not really interested in the other models. Clearly it’s not a huge budget so I may be limited but what would anyone recommend in this instance and what should I avoid? What do I need to make sure of when buying an older used RX, corrosion? Engine problems? I’m in the UK! thanks in advance!

    RX450h

Hi all - we’ve joined the world of Lexus ownership with the purchase of a RX450H last week.. One frustrating thing is that the previous owner had the towbar kit fitted, but the detachable neck is missing.. I’ve been having trouble tracking one down. Any help would be welcomed.
  8. Hi everyone, I really need some advice on a pretty bad situation. I recently bought a 2010 Lexus RX450h from the UK, the car interior and body is in great condition but there is severe corrosion on the under body. None of this was declared by the garage and I have gotten the vehicle accessed by Lexus and they cannot even quote to repair it the corrosion is that bad. Here is the report which also includes a video of the car and effected areas, https://triage-eu.superservice.com/home/en-au/customer-authorisation/#/IZ08yJ&RDjuNJ;SUU= i was wondering if anyone had any experience in this area or offer any advice? Appreciate it and thanks in advice. Simon
  9. Does anybody suffer from torque steer on their RX450h? I know the weather is rubbish at the moment but a couple of times today had that violent tug from the wheel when attempting to pull out a junction quickly. Most of my cars have been rear wheel drive so this is a new sensation for me Is there a way to lock the car in 4 wheel drive mode to reduce the torque steer? Don't think it's an issue with the tyres as its running Bridestone Duelers all round, although I'm open to suggestions.
  10. Hi all, I'm looking at RX 300 and RX 400h examples (all without air suspension) from 2004-2006 and I can't decide which version I should buy. The RX300 non hybrid is rarer than the RX400h in my preferred price range here in the Netherlands. But I am a little bit anxious to buy a hybrid of that age, because I feel more can go wrong with it than with the 'simpler' pure petrol version. Any insights and tips are welcome.
  11. Hi all. I have just ( unexpectedly ) changed changed my RX ( for another younger model! ) and I now have 4 tyres going spare. (My new one has 20" wheels.) They are Vredestein Ultrack Satin, 235 X 55 X ZR 19 XL 105W. I am located in N.E. Lincolnshire, if any interest please PM me. Cheers Bri
  12. Hi i have had my white RX for 6 months or so. I am thinking wrapping my roof black. Has anyone done this? Any thoughts on wrapping the roof bars too? I have the sport with the gloss black wheels.
  13. Has anyone tried/got/liked/not liked one of these type, DAB radio adaptors at all? 🤔
  14. My apologies in advance, I have seen this thread somewhere but cannot find it ... Driving home tonight in my beloved RX300, the amber engine management light came on and the VSC light. Stopping and starting made no difference. Once home I did undo the petrol cap - - no whoosh. I'm not sure if that's significant or not. Happy to take it to the garage but are there any obvious checks an incompetent DIY'er can do? Regards, Piers. 😧
  15. Hi all, I've been investigating alternatives to purchasing air shocks/struts/bags individually from Lexus at between £700-800 each! Now I've found many suppliers of components but no-one that makes an aftermarket unit or it's constituent components specifically for the RX. Ideally, I'd like to get a failed sacrificial unit to strip down, measure the air bag and shock damper to see if I can contact good suppliers directly (Dunlop, Bridgestone, KYB etc.) and hopefully make a DIY refurb guide. Unfortunately I'm not made of money but would be willing to buy a failed rear unit if anyone has one in their garage? From what I can ascertain, the front units are different air bag "types" to the so there would have to be 2 guides. On a positive note, many people state the system is scary and complicated - before my research started I would have been inclined to agree but the more I learn, the more I see how simple the setups are! The big problems are lack of decent RX information and suppliers. Full aftermarket air strut kits (ie: 2 x Front, 2 x Rear units) for the RX are available at £1200 BUT before leaping into the unknown, I'd like to see if a refurb of the Lexus/Toyota parts are possible to keep things as stock as is possible. If anyone can provide further info, ie: front and rear air bag dimensions, types and if at all possible the original manufacturer (as Toyota/Lexus don't make air bags!) then that would be really useful. Thanks all, Chris
  16. Hi all, New on here, just after some owner views on the RX400h, I’m after a bigger car, liked the look of the RX for ages and am finally looking to take the plunge. Any views on driving, common things to look out for when buying would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
  17. Hi All, I have a RX450h 2009 Premier with the LED headlights. Does anyone know what the section marked in red is actually for? Can this section be wired to be constantly on so as to be used as a DRL and if so what are the wiring colours that supply the LED in there? The headlight is supp;ied by a block connector with the following wires, L/Blue, Black, White/Black, Brown, Gray The side light is supplied separately as is the turn signal.

  19. Can anyone here advise, especially if you have a Lexus Service Plan. My wife had her RX MOT'ed and Serviced today. Her book was stamped, she received an invoice for the reduced cost MOT, But she didn't get the usual service parts and labour breakdown page Should she - the one that lists labour, parts etc ...?
  20. It's snowy here today. Nasty snow; ice, snow, compacted snow, slush. Lots of stuck cars, spinning cars etc. We were both fine. Nokian Weatherprrof on hers, Michelin Latitude Tour HP - both all season. We both felt safe and secure. Cars were getting stuck on the slightest of inclines. I felt I could have stopped on a hill and started again, easily. It felt good. And safe.
  21. Just a shout for Japex in Kings Langley, Herts. Was there this morning with my lovely RX. GREAT service as always.
  22. Just wondering ... Does anyone here rotate their tyres. My fronts are slightly more worn than my rears. And with Winter coming... [ Still have good tread on both ]
  23. Hello, I bought some RX car mats in error ( wrong year ). They are these. They are free to anyone who can collect (Herts) . Ideally with a nominal donation to a charity...? Regards, Piers.
  24. that... the SatNav on my RX has a compass. Yes, I know it sounds obvious, but I just never realised it before!
  25. Drove to Luton Airport this morning. All fine. 3 hours later to go home, car unlocked, then dead. No lights, no ignition, nothing ... Called Lexus Assist ( AA). 30 minutes later, they arrived and the car has started. The problem? The connection to my battery had come loose(!), so it was effectively disconnected for maybe 3 hours. It took about a minute to be fixed. It's never let me down before, so I WAS surprised! I guess the car has to re-learn stuff now. Certainly some of memory settings have gone... But a happy ending. Top Tip: Keep a coat in your car. I had one ( a high viz ) and was I grateful!
