  1. Hi everyone. I've been reading these forums and have found a lot of valuable advice with regards to the IS220d head gasket issue so far. Really shocked at the extent of it. I have an '06 IS220d with 72k miles on the clock and FSH and have been losing water out the header tank for about 3 weeks, with it gradually getting worse. I had the car diagnosed by a cooling specialist as having a blown head gasket (Lexus couldn't fit me in for 3 weeks!). The car still runs fine (I had it recovered by the AA as soon as I discovered the head gasket) and doesn't have water in the oil or oil in the radiator as far as I can see. On speaking with Lexus UK, they've stated they will not consider my case for any goodwill coverage due to the age even though the mileage is far below the maximum. I'm still pursuing Lexus to come to the party, but I'm not holding my breath. Lexus Milton Keynes has suggested that, worst case, I will need to replace the engine which will cost more than than the value of the car. They said it will cost circa £500 to determine the extent of the damage and provide a quote on the repair. I am hoping that it's just a head gasket, and not a full rebuild. Or am I smoking something to think that? I am looking for some advice on options for how to proceed with the diagnosis and repair. Is there another option other than to go with Lexus at £100/hr + VAT or is Lexus the only sensible option? Thx in advance for your advice.
