    In France we have to pay the VAT (20%) and import taxes for japanese parts. And do not think you would have to pay much more in Ireland.

    It has absolutely no effect on the noise and or performance.

I would love to see some pictures and where the parts were sourced if possible. Also wondering if it was a big job or a diy??

    I know not everyone is going to be a lover of this topic, and each to their own, but I got some great help on this site prior to my first purchase and I regularly follow this forum for tips.

    hi Kieran,

    Four of our Club Lexis fellows went for the AIMGAIN diffuser, pretty easy to paint and fit, it gives the Lexus a pretty distinctive look. I ordered 4 kits from Japan, and took care of all paperwork myself to get them up to La Havre in France. I would recommend these japanese parts ... only drawback is that they are a bit expensive.

  3. Hi, my name is John (from Sydney, Australia),

    I purchased a Lexus IS300h in August 2013 and have also experienced the transmission "rough spot" in this car. I'm a retired automotive steering/suspension engineer, and drivetrain NVH (indeed any NVH) really, really annoys me!!

    Yes, there is undoubtedly a drivetrain vibration problem in the IS300h when the engine is operating at low load at about 1200 - 1300 rpm, which corresponds to about 80 - 90 km/hr on an open flat freeway. It is most noticeable in ECO mode where the planetary "CVT" response is designed to be sluggish (on purpose). In Normal or Sports mode the problem is masked somewhat because the rpm advances through the 1200 - 1300 speed range - so you just get a shorter "kick" in the vibration.

    As one of the other LOC bloggers say, the vibration resembles a "rumble" or interior "boom" and sounds a bit like driving a manual transmission car in top gear at excessively low revs. As an automotive engineer, my guess is that it is caused a drivetrain vibration resonance, which interacts with a fundamental frequency of the air volume in the passenger compartment. (hence the audible "boom"). I wish I had my old spectral analysis equipment, and then I could tell you the exact frequency!!

    Anyway, "Mr Lexus Drivetrain Engineer in Nagoya", you have clearly missed this problem in your exhaustive testing, and there is a number of Lexus IS300h new owners in the world quite annoyed by it. The local Lexus service guys cannot do anything about it. We need an engineering fix, may be a remapping of the drivetrain ECU or changing of the transmission mount spring-rates to eliminate/attenuate the problem.

    Yes I have the exact same problem in my 300h, they definitely have to do a recall.

    Yes, I have the very same problem too. Looks like it is a design problem that all new IS have. Some drivers will notice, some won't. But before going through the recall process, Lexus engineers have to FIND a solution, and that may take some time. That may not even happen on our Gen 3 Lexus but on the future "release".

    As far as I know, it has been reproted an other Toyota/lexus hybrid vehicles.

  4. I had an IS300h out for a test drive a few weeks ago and noticed an annoying whine/very slight vibration when the car reached about 65mph.

    It wasn't particularly loud or intrusive, but it was definitely there and after a dozen miles or so became rather irritating.

    I couldn't be totally sure where it was coming from, but I didn't think it was the tyres - it felt to me like it was coming from somewhere under the bonnet (although I appreciate that's not very helpful).

    For me it was a dealer breaker, which was a shame as there was a lot about the car that I liked.

    Hi Dazed, we've moved this topic over to "Potential Manufacturing Defect" if you'd like to follow it. Everybody reporting the problem (just 3 of us so far, unfortunately, so welcome to the club!) agrees it happens between around 80 - 90kph when the engine is between 1300 and 1400 rpm, and it goes away if you paddle down a 'virtual' gear. I'm pretty sure there is a solution because most owners don't have the problem - perhaps a little electronic tweaking of the CVT. Please don't let this turn you off the car. I'm bringing mine in to the dealer in a few weeks, and will be taking all the comments with me, so watch this space.

    Hi Dazed, at least three more of us in France have reported this vibration problem, two on F-Sport and one on Executive version. And as stated on the other topic, it has been reported an other Toyota hybrid models as well.

  5. The MY 2011 should be the last IS Gen² version before Gen3 comes out late 2011.

    And as far as we know there won't be any diesel engine in Lexus future after 2011. However, Lexus should bring in a 2011 IS200d at Paris auto show next october. The purpose of this exercise being to slightly bring the price down for the diesel version of the IS which sales volumes are ridiculously low (in France at least). Toyota and Lexus dealers were expecting much higher volumes.

  6. i have to agree with "IS300", i was too lookin to change my car test drove is250 & 220d: the 220d is just s#hit, the 250 is a geat car, i like it alot, lots off toys but something keeps holding me back and i keep goin for the IS300 everytime... maybe one day ill have a IS350 or ISF(if i sell a kidney)

    I've owned two IS200, these are great gars. when came time to change, I obviously had a look at the IS250, and test drove it several times. But for me, if power is OK, torque is not, which is what you could expect for a 'small' engine (2.5).

    I then decided to stay with the Gen1 IS and since then, I have been the happy owner of my IS300 for 2 1/2 years now.

    As mentionned earlier the only real drawback is fuel consumption. an IS300 can be quite thirsty when driven hard.

    The best choice for me would be the IS350 (not imported) or even the middle east IS300 version (not imported either), while the IS-F is not for me. :winky:

  7. it is a tragedy that some politic d---heads measure the ecology of the engine only regarding with the CO2 - jesus :huh:

    In europe, producers still produce euro IV engines (say PSA with 2.0hdi in new C5) while toyota D4D 180k is on the market more than 4 years and it is euro V compliant.

    When you walk in the city, CO2 won't harm you at all, while nitro oxides etc and particles will kill you.

    This is makes very clear, why EU has problems and will have problems

    I fully agree with this statement, politics are clearly pushing Diesel engines forward which is a major mistake for our future.

    In a fisrt phase, the IS220d came in two flavors, standard gearbox ratio = 168g/km and pack Sport gearbox ratio = 195g/km.

    Then for a number of reasons (some of them being customers complaining) , Lexus decided to go only for the sport type package with the "short" gearbox ratio and therefore associated with the 195 g/km emission level.

  9. In France, Lexus has clearly missed the fleet market of company cars, mainly because its high CO² emmisson level (195g/km) which leads to very high costs when compared to a BMW 320d.

    For the first year, here are the significant differences:

    At the end of the first year, that makes quite a huge difference between the two cars.

    The ECO Bonus/malus is 200,00 € Bonus (you actually get money back) for the BMW and a 'malus' of 750 € for the Lexus, at that point there is already a 950.00 € difference.

    Then the yearly tax (TVTS) based on CO² emission level. 640 € for the BMW and 2925 € for the Lexus. Then the gas mileage is really bad for the Lexus as well. So at the bottom of the spreadsheet, the Lexus clearly lost the war. :duh:

  10. Regarding the 5th injector, I am in touch with some people with IS220d here in europe, and nobody has ever had problems with 5th injector - when I take into account the consumption problems, I still hardly suspect that you in GB have bad diesel quality.

    Anyway, even if it seems to me that europe doesn't have problem with 5th injector, we got it changed.

    You must be kidding, who have you got in touch with to state this?

    Among ou members (Club LexIS France), most of IS220d owners have had the problem of the 5th injector. And some of them several times. And the gas mileage is a MAJOR issue too. Unfortunately we must admit that car is LEXUS first failure.

  11. Next fall at the "mondial de l'auto 2008" motorshow in Paris, Lexus should introduce either the new IS convertible or the new IS coupe.

    I have read in a magazine something that has been rumored for a while : there won't be any IC220d, and the reason is that the IS220d has no future.

    The IS220d will remain as the only attempt by Lexus to fit a diesel engine in a Lexus chassis. I tend to believe this. It will then put an end to the endless arguments and discussions you have and we have as well over here on what we already consider as being the only major mistake Lexus made.

    I was discussing the other day with the manager of a major Lexus dealership in west France, and he told me "that car is crap". Even hough things have (slightly) improved, the IS220d has ruined in two years a part of the "pursuit of perfection spirit" it took 28 years to Lexus to build.

    Today in France, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are more than happy, A4, Serie 3 and Class C sell like hotcakes.

  12. I have found an universal exhaust with the followings details:

    Technical Spec:-

    Inlet size - 50.8mm

    Outlet size - 4.5"

    Overall length of box - 435mm

    Box diameter - 160mm

    Tail pipe length - 135mm

    All dimensions are to nearest 5mm.

    How could i measure all this to make sure it fits, anybody???

    You will have no problem with the right hand side box, the problem is with the left hand side, where there is nothing in today but a plastic cover.

    And there the hard part is not the diameter, but the overall length of you new box plus the pipe.

    So if you want to make sure it will fit, get under your car, remove the plastic cover and measure the space you actually have.

    That is what I did on my IS300. However, keep in mind that fitting a dual exhaust requires some time if you want the job to be done properly.

  13. Do you use aircon a lot (and does your relative too?). 15-17 seems ok for a sporty driver and 19 is nothing out of the ordinary. Much more can only be achieved with the less powerfull IS 200.

    We're talking about UK mpg or US mpg? :) I was referring to UK/imp. measurements.

    19 mpg (imp./UK) = 6.72 km/l = 14.8 l/100km

    ...which seems pretty much for a european car (I assume... was driving a BMW 330d (yeah, diesel) before, much more aggressive than Lexus and fuel consumption never was more than 9.5 l/100km (=+/- 10 km/l = 29.7 mpg)

    I was hoping for something like 11-12 l/100km (official Lexus fuel consumption WITHIN a city is 11.7 l/100km!) in average, which equals 23.5 mpg and 8.3 km/l...

    And I was somewhat off on the fuel consumption: my relative gets out of his car: it's 26-28mpg... and he's a sporty driver.

    Thanx for advice all, I'll drive it to a Lexus dealer on Wednesday to read out the computer for errors and I'll examine it thoroughly later in January (they're fully booked with repairs untill late January :| )

    On a trip back from Strasbourg to Paris last week on A4, driving at 140 km/h all the way I got 10.61 l /100km with my IS300 (sorry I can't convert into UK mpg), which is pretty close from what I was getting from my former IS200.

  14. Well My shiny new IS 220d in Black with black interior arrived yesterday.

    Looks fantastic, only driven a a few miles mostly in traffic but so far so good. Much quieter, more comfortable and quicker than the outgoing Saab.

    Other things Things i like so far:

    Its got a Longwave radio so i can listen to the ashes on the way to work!

    6 CD's worth of MP3's

    minor things I'm not so keen on:

    Need to learn how to park again as i've given up the park assist.

    Can't reach out the side window to swipe into the carpark as its so high.

    Going to loose my license unless i get used to how quiet it is at 90+ mph.

    Congrats on the new car - same colour combination as mine.

    With regards to the licence you can set the orange speed warning to come on at, for example 85 mph. I use this as a visual when I'm forgetting how fast I'm going. You will also (allegedly) see the red circle of light at 100 mph ;). You also get a blue flashing light and audible warning when you reach 140 mph, but I've not tested this yet :lol:

    On an IS220d I got the red circle at 125 Mph (200km/h), it was at night and was a bit surprised, but did not see any blue flashing lights (not even those from any police car) when reaching 137 Mph (220 km/h)
