  1. I have the same problem. It is resolved in the new Navigation system (i.e. new RX350 and IS) - but with our cars I guess we have to live with it. Do not, if you are talking the connection is stable. Also, if an incoming call comes it reconnects itself. You are only caught out when trying to make an outgoing call - when you may have to wait for a minute or so to call out.

  2. I have just taken delivery of a new SC430 to replace my three year old one which didn't have Bluetooth connectivity. On hand over at the dealers they spent 2 hours and managed to download one of my cell phone numbers. Three days later they sent their Bluetooth 'expert' out to see me. He manged to download about half of my numbers after another two hours. They then gave me the Lexus Bluetooth helpline number. The techies there don't understand it either. They tell me the system will only take two numbers for each name - but I've already got some names in with three or four numbers - so no faith in their ability or knowledge of the system either. Also the number of who is calling doesn't come up on the screen and in addition you can only access 18 numbers while you are driving unless you access them through your cell phone, so can anyone tell me what is the use of downloading any numbers at all? This system has been in one or other of the Lexus range for about 18 months now with apparently no one knowing how it works. Can anyone help please? Apart from that little rant, the car is brilliant - a massive improvement on it's predecessor. The manual override 6 speed box is a joy.

The Bluetooth system in the Lexus is not the best - and it has many "things which can be improved on", e.g. the transfer of phone numbers, which for example in a BMW is automatic.

Any way, I cannot help you with the problem of downloading numbers to your car - other than suggesting that you do them one at a time and store them as separate names (maybe by putting extra spaces at the end of each name.

Now with regards to the number not coming up when the car is moving. This is true. However, if you have the name stored with the number, then the name will come up when the car is moving (thus the reason why you should transfer numbers over to the car). Please note, however, if you transfer the number over as +44.... the name will not come up. You have to store the number as 020...

Yes, you can only dial 18 numbers (well, 17 actually as one of the 18 is a Last Dialled Number). Again, unlike the BMW where you have a keypad and can dial numbers even when moving - and can access the phone book.

Anyway, heres to hoping that Lexus come up with some upgrades to the Bluetooth system to make it more like the BMWs...

    Regards

  3. All,

Still getting to grips with this thing.

So you jump in the car and set off from the office, push the talk to me button and say "home", thinking this will set you up with how long it will take to reach the family and advise you of any traffic issues along the way. Heaven!

But you don't get "home" at all, you get any one of:

    AM

    FM

    Heading Up Mode

    Airport POI

    Parking POI

In my jag you had to say "Navigation select route home", by saying navigation first, you limited the number of words that had to be recoginised by the system, and so it's reliability was good.

In the 400h, you can get "home", by saying "homer" or "homa", but this is not reliable at all.

One idea was to set "Quick Access 1" to my home and say that instead.

Anyone got any better ideas or have people got as annoyed as me and not bothered?

    Cheers

    Jon

On my car if you say "Home" it responds with "Bowling". However, if I say "Go Home" it selects "Home" everytime...

  4. You will have seen from previous posts that I had my heart set on an RX, but it woun't fit on drive. Anyway decided to widen so it will.

Change of circumstances means I able able to consider an RX400h :D

The RX400h appeals one because most of my commuting is stop start for 5 miles each way, rarely getting over 30mph. So questions is at those speeds would it be electric all the way?

Also the bluetooth compatability, does it work with Blackberry, ie. Will it put my email on screen or just the phone functions?

    Thanks.

The BlackBerry works very well with the Lexus Bluetooth. However, you can only use the phone functions (no email or SMS) through the Bluetooth. You are unable to transfer telephone numbers from the BlackBerry to the Lexus phonebook - you will need a different phone (one off) to transfer these numbers. Also, unless you have version 4.1 on the BlackBerry handheld, if your keypad is locked, you will not be able to dial out. Best thing to do if you are not on version 4.1 is to actually use the holster.

    Hope the above helps.

  5. Aficio - Did this work for you as I cant seem to do it. I cant get the on/off message to appear. If you did get the message how do you switch it to OFF ?

    Gazman :zee:

No it didn't work, I guess these "little tricks" are not allowed on UK cars

They do work. I have done with my 05 RX 300SE.

    Try the following:

turn the ODO to full meter reading (not the trip computers.

    Turn off the car

Now turn the car onwith the ODO button pressed.

    Count to 20.

On the count of 20, fasten the seat belt.

You will get a menu which says b_on

release the ODO button and press it again

The menu will change to b_off

    Turn the car off

All done. The seat belt beeping is now off.

Would love to find a trick for this phone thing. Its quite annoying.

  6. If you DO manage to find a hack for this I will be very interested.

I thought the US overide would work but alas no. Believe me, it's not for want of trying - I've searched everywhere... Even Google !!!:lol: but I can't come up with anything for the Mk3 GS European cars.

If you do find anything please let me know and I will do likewise and post it on here.

    Regards

    The Ed

P.S - Could just have a quiet word with a knowledgeable service guy and accidently drop a £5 into his hand I guess !! (Assuming they know)

I think what we actually need to do is get some kind of petition together and get Lexus GB to override it. It is not illegal in the UK to use these functions whilst driving. Merecedes and BMW dont block anybody from dialling out. Why should Lexus police this?

  7. Hi, my car's booked in for an inspection later this week due to graunching noise when braking at speeds higher than say around 60-70mph. The noise is not metal to metal and the brakes still seem firm. At lower speeds the brakes are as you would expect them to noirmally feel. I'm not sure whether it's just a large build up of brake dust or whether they're on their way out. After 17k miles though I would have hoped they would last between services. Typically I'm not someone who's heavy on the brakes and for a large degree of the 17k miles the car has spent long periods with the cruise control set on the motorway.

Those of you who have higher limeage Mk II's what life are you typically getting from your brake pads? Have any of you had to have disks replaced?

    thanks for your help.

    br

    D

I typically do motorway driving and have now done 23k. My front brake pads were replaced at the 20k service. They were about 85% worn...

  8. As you, I am in the 2005 class of RX300 and this workaround does not work for me either. I am sure there is a way to disable this protocol that dealers are aware of - it is just a matter of getting/squeezing it out ... Tony

Tried squeezing it out of the dealer - no luck. Also examined installing this:

    http://www.coastaletech.com/nav_kit.htm

Problem 1: the warranty on your navigation system will be voided if you use this...(although there is no way of them figuring out that you used this - so long as you disconnect it when giving the car to the dealer).

Problem 2: How do you fit it on the RX?

  9. Same here - I would have thought that we would have the right direction to break through the phone/satnav block by now, be it from the maintenance manuals or something !

Is there a maintenance manual for the 300/400 ?

Is there nobody out there who has some inside info on this - key is it is software driven and there has to be a code to "fix" it ......

    Tony

Well, from a previous thread, I beleive there is a scenario which may work in the RX400. As far as I understand, there are two versions of the service mode. 1 - as has been described above. The second method is if you press the Menu button and then press the top left and then bottom left a few times and then I think you press it on the bottom right to bring up the service menu. You are then able to choose an override which allows you to dial telephone numbers. You are able to access this "cheat" system even when the car is moving. The idea being you can do this should you wish to dial a number. Otherwise you can use your pre-sets.

The above does not work with the 2005 RX300 though. I know it works in the US RX400. Don't know about over here.

  10. Hi Folks.

Trying to find out if anyone knows of a way of overriding the safety feature that dis allows you to use the phone book whislt driving.

Absolutely love the car but do feel that some of the safety stuff is a bit OTT.(like that immediate anoying beeping noise when i havent quite buckled up before I pull away...anyone know how to override that one as well please?)

    Thanks

    AlanL

To turn off the beeping seat belt noise, do the following:

    1. When the car is turned off, press the ODO button and turn the car on.

    2. Count till 20-30 with the ODO button pressed.

    3. With the ODO button pressed, now wear ure seat belt.

    4. You will now see a menu on the ODO meter which says b_on. You can change this to b_off by pressing the ODO button.

Would love to see if anybody has found a "cheat switch" to be able to dial the telephone when the car is moving.

Its a bit silly that you cannot on the Lexus whereas you can on the Merc and BMW.

  11. Hi

Just checking with regards to the Cruise Control. On every other car that I have driven, if you set the cruise control at a certain speed, say 60mph, and then the car comes to a stop (but you don't turn off the engine, e.g. in a traffic jam or at an intersection), and you "re-accelarate", you can normally press the resume button on the cruise control after a certain speed (normally around 20-25mph) and the car resumes to the set speed, i.e. 60mph.

Not so on the Lexus. On the Lexus, if you stop, you have to re-set the cruise control to your desired speed. Is this normal? Can this be turned to what is normal with every other car?

  12. I’ve had my RX400 SEL for just three days and I absolutely love it.

I'll happily write a long review at some point, but meanwhile I wonder if anyone can help me with a stupid phone problem:-

My BlackBerry 7100 connects fine via Bluetooth but (as some of you may know) BlackBerries cannot send data via Bluetooth – only voice.

So I can’t download my address book direct to the RX400.

“Never mind”, I thought: “I’ll just manually enter names and numbers into the RX400 system’s phone book..”

    But I can’t!!!!

I simply cannot find a way to enter a number, give it a name and store it in the phone book.

Surely it’s possible? It must just be me being stupid, right?

But I have spent about an hour on this so far, and have read the manual front to back.

Please don’t tell me this can only be done via Bluetooth from a cell phone…

    Thanks for any help!

    Martin

    Martin,

It can only be done iva Bluetooth from a cell phone!!!

I would borrow a friend's Sony Ericsson and transfer the phone book. If that is not possible, buy a Sony Ericsson phone, transfer the phone book and then return the phone!

  13. I have an October 04 RX 300 with Sat Nav.

Is there a way to overide the syetme so that it can beused fully when moving.  Currently I have to be stationary to dial a number or key in a route wit the sat nav.

I dont want to use it at full speed when when crawling in traffci it would be hjandy.

    Any ideas - thanks.

Your best option is the following: http://www.coastaletech.com/nav_kit.htm

Having spoken to Coastal E-Tech they state that they cannot guarantee functionality with a Lexus - although the Lexus and Prius navigation system seem to be the same. They will ship worldwide.

I have not gone for this/tried this as you will void your warranty of the Navigation system if Lexus/Your Dealer finds out.

  14. I suffer from the same problem with an 8 month old RX300SEL and a V3.....doesn't happen all the time, but usually cuts the signal within the first 10 seconds, if you pass that period the call goes ahead as normal.

Never had a problem with a Nokia 6230, so I assume that it is a random compatability problem with V3's as I have pretty much everything apart from bluetooth switched off on the phone including the voice activation function.

Would be very interested also, if somebody has a fix!

Have spoken to Motorola about this problem and they said: "a motorola phone's Bluetooth is only fully compatible with Motorola Bluetooth devices. Although Bluetooth is technically supposed to be universally compliant there are various versions of the Bluetooth technology and Motorola can only guarantee full compatibility with other Motorola Bluetooth products."

  15. my V3 works fine - just the K770i Sony phone that can't connect.

I wonder if there might be a problem with your handset & my K700i handset because other people have had no problems with their k700i handsets

Could be...I am now tempotarily using a k700i to see if the problem continues on this...if it does then I presume its a problem with the Lexus

    I've got the same problem with the 400 & the V3 - sometimes works & sometimes doesn't.

Also, has anyone managed to transfer the phone book over from the V3?

You can transfer the phone book from the V3, but you have to do each entry separately. Its best if you can borrow/use a Sony Ericsson phone and transfer the entries from that as you can transfer all the entries in one go.
