  1. You are doing the service yourself, and you don't know what this component does??

Trust me. Servicing from a Haynes manual or whatever does NOT make good sense.

I have run a garage for twenty five years, and still take my LS to a dealer, as I believe a guy who is familiar with the machine will do a better job despite my own quest for perfection, as you will probably have yourself.

    IMHO of course :D

The valve forces the fuel vapour to be retained under pressure rather than let it contaminate the environment.

This is why fuel tanks frequently hiss when the cap is removed.

    I believe around 2-3 p.s.i. is correct....

  2. Surely Hydraulic valves are self adjusting, using the oil pressure to quieten them?

I say this because I once had a 12,000 mile LS400 and left it standing for three months.

When I started it, it smoked like a bitch and ratlled like a bag o'nails for around 10 seconds while the oil worked it's way around.

    It was fine after this....

Hydraulic tappets can benefit from a good flushing fluid. We use this on every car we service, and you can sometimes hear it work on old gummed up engines!

Some engines have a combination of hydraulic and adjustors, such as the Honda powered Rover 827.

  3. It seems pointless however, to run a luxury car, noted for it's refinement, except it sounds like a bag o'spanners....

Save a few quid and trade it in for an old Rover 800!

Alternatively, give it a good thrashing with some oil flush (Tec2000 works a treat) which should quieten any hydraulic valve noises, and then see if it requires any adjustment after an oil change.

I have seen Tec2000 flush work on Fords which sounded like they required new Camshafts! 30 minutes, then silence!

  4. Pug 307.....

    Hahahahaaaaaahaahaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaa

Oh dear *** on a bike...avoid this French rubbish like a Rottweiller with Ebola.

The Honda is a nice car, but very single minded, the CRV is ugly and outdated.

    Only IMHO of course.....

The IS200 seems like a Jap 3 series to me, a good all round trad saloon with a little class about it!

This 'Image' is easy to live with long term, and the quality is too. :)

  5. Sorry, I'll be more specific....

Typical MPG per tank is 21. I drive 5 miles to work, and mainly use it around town with a trip of 30 miles once a week, which sees a good blast down a local Motorway at 150mph.

No fouled plugs for me then

I took it down the motorway at 75ish, and it was telling me around 28-30 on the digidash, so all is well. It's just serviced, and 23,000 miles, no probs..... :)

  6. Was in the motor trade since 1980, so had most things from Mini's to Mercedes with a few oddballs along the way! (Citroen DS, CX, GS, a few Saabs, Volvo's etc) which I won't bore you with.

    Recent cars include;

Skoda Fabia vRS. Perfect little weapon, can't sell it as it's too good!

Skoda Fabia 1.4 Elegance 100bhp. Good estate, sold it for vRS

Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi Elegance. A very nice car indeed.

Toyota Celica GT4. Not reliable, Drunk fuel but strangely addictive in a hairy chested way. not exactly sporty, too heavy!

Toyota PicNic 2.0. Sweet MPV, also thirsty but a nice machine nonetheless.

    Previous faves;

Merc W123's (230-280) Built like tanks, very comforting to own.

Merc 500SEL Bigger tank with more toys. Economy was surprising!!

Toyota MR2 (1600) A blast to drive, no use to man nor beast though

Rover 400 GTi Turbo. Driving was believing! 200bhp in a waffer thin Honda... :nuke: Oh dear *** did it go....

Plus loads of other stuff. Pop round and see my Holiday snaps too...
