Hi peeps
Any special tools required to fit Front brake pads to 2001 RX300?
Thanks
SL01 xx
Update 280406 - Purchased front brake pads but they do not look at all like the ones that are on there! far too square. Anyone know whether the new ones will fit? (Can't seem to get the old ones off yet!) - Any advice from someone who has done this job will be gratefully received.
Thanks

I think it's a great idea - beats F1 hands down at the minute (I haven't watched F1 for about 4 years now - got bored with the 'procession' that it became). Love the idea of racing for your country, that all the cars are basically the same etc. I really hope it catches on.
And me a mere girly.....................

What I am referring to is mothers on a school run who blatently do not need a car of this type - its just for effect. As a personal note I too hate the school 4*4 run but not because they are environmentally unfriendly but because many of the journeys are uneccessary and clog roads and also because many drive/park badly. This is an observation that has stood for many years except then we complained about mums in their big estate cars.
Hmmmmm................... I guess they must mean me! I drive the school run in my RX because:-
a ) It's the only car I've got
b ) The school is 5 miles away and as my kids are only 6 and 4 I wouldn't want them to walk, now would I? Not with all them mad men about (and I use the word MEN advisedly, I don't think anyone can argue with the statistics on paedophiles and the like, they are in the majority the male of the species). So I think that the journey is entirely necessary.
I do, however, park legally, unlike many drivers of much smaller cars ( and they are not ALL Mum's!) and I do not drive it "for effect". My reasons for choosing the Rx were simple, It was roomy, it was incredibly comfortable and it will pull my caravan off muddy fields! Why the caravan? 'Cos with kids at school it's the only holiday I can afford during July/August. Which sort of takes us back to the original point.
Would I pay an additional tax for owning the car that I do? Probably the answer would be yes, as it would still be cheaper than going abroad during school hols!

When I enquired the other day about getting a towbar fitted to my RX, the guy said that Lexus recommend that a cooler is fitted (at a cost of approx £800 :o ) - but he said no-one ever bothers! I guess that if it is 'recommended' and you didn't get one fitted then you could possibly invalidate any warranty?

So guess who didn't notice the zoom thingy until it was too late! Now when I zoom I appear to have placed deepest darkest Northants in South Wales - oooops.

SJT et al - Towsure no longer supply Towbars for Lexus models. One towbar fitter that I have spoken to has advised me that Lexus 'advise' customers with RX300's that when fitting a towbar that they should fit a cooling system as well. This will be at an approximate cost of £800 . He then went on to quote £311 for standard and £411 for detachable.
I can't find anywhere where I can purchase one for DIY fitting!
Can anyone help?
Thnx

According to Towsure website they do not do towbars for Lexus' So what now? Will I have to pay £400 to get a detachable one fitted - or does anyone know of anywhere else I can get a fix-it-yourself one!

I bought my towbar from Towsure for about £120 all in. It was so easy to fit!. The car has captive nuts already built in so you just bolt it on..... no drilling! and no problem with alignment.
The electrics were also easy using only a small multimeter bought for about £4. I took my time and all works perfectly.
I know nothing about cars so was well happy with result.
Time for a LPG conversion i think!

Thanks SJT - that is really helpful - think it's time to have a look through the towsure book! I had been quoted £400 for getting one fitted :o - yeah right!!!
Thanks to everyone else for the welcome - good to know that Cambridge at least give some discount - might have to become a gold member!
Cheers

Sorry but looks like you might have a bit of a drive for servicing
So does anyone know if Cambridge is any good? Do they do discount? What about Essex?, I've a bruv in Brentwood I could visit, thereby killing two birds with one of the proverbials.

Cor - This is turning into a 'small world' chat - MacRS200 - I spent my formative years in Letchworth!
Bought the car from a dealer that is an end of lease outlet for Grosvenor Leasing. I think my nearest dealer will be Cambridge. Can I get it serviced by Toyota? That'd only be in Northampton then!

Hi people
Just joined having picked up my 2001 RX300 SE on Monday. I have to say it's like driving around in your armchair! Neighbours are , heehee. Can't wait to get the towbar on and see how it feels with the steel box on the back! Anyone know how hard it is to fit a towbar yourself? I'm thinking mainly electrics being the problem?
Thanks

Front pads now changed - first set didn't fit and had to be swapped for set that would fit. Happily, the set that fitted were £10 cheaper!!!!! But.................................. How to stop the squeaking sound? Handbook says that squeak occurs when pads are low and should be changed (what's wrong with a light on the dash???????) - but they are still squeaking with the new pads fitted.
Pls help!!!!!!!!!!
