Think you guys are on cross purposes on belts!

I would guess that as you can run the engine with no belt, the belt Ken is talking about is the alternator etc drive belt.

Leadfoot is talking about the cam belt.

My guess is the noise is either the water pump as they are usually driven by the cam belt, or could be the tensioner. Either way get the cam belt and both checked ASAP as you could be heading for a cam belt failure.

Sounds like the water pump.

Why dont you try something like Forte cooling system conditioner and if it improves or stops the noise you know it is the pump.

As above, if the exhausts and cats are'nt leaking, wait till they do!

Emission problems may be else where, plugs, leads, injectors etc. etc. ;)

YEAH NOW I NO 1 HELL OF A LOT OF THINGS 2 DO WITH THIS CAR NOW IT TOOK BEST PART OF 5HRS 2 STRIP HER DOWN THEN ABOUT SAME 2 PUT IT BACK TOGEATHER DONE THE TIMING BELT ASWELL SINCE IT HAD 2 COME OFF ANYWAY NOW SHES FLYING GOT HEATERS EVERYTHING GOING OK I ALSO GOT THAT MASTER KEY WAIT TILL U HEAR THIS £25+VAT FOR MASTER KEY SO MUCH FOR SCAREY STORIES OF £100 I CAN NOW OPEN THE BOOT NO PROBLEM I ALSO GOT THE LEXUS WORKSHOP MANUALS ON CD'S ASWELL AND INTEND 2 BECOME AN ACTIVE MEMBER HELPING OTHERS WITH THERE PROBLEMS ALL I NEED 2 NO NOW IS IF THESE WHEELS WILL FIT MY LS400 HOPEFULLY SOME 1 CAN HELP US OUT

hi guyz good news on 2 fronts my water pump was siezed on my ls400 that was the engine noise now its fixed were rocking and doing 140mph again i feel at home now heres the next prob i got i ihave bought a set of alloys on eBay

the guy says they are from an is200 and they will fit my 1990 ls400 they are 16 inch the eBay item number is 4588338191 can some 1 tel me if they will fit my ls400

this place has been great for all other information regarding the ls400 so hopefully u lot will come up trumps again

ok 1st things its got nothing 2 do with the belt the belt has been removed ok

then start the engine up the noise is still there its coming from inside the engine

some 1 asked me about the oil saying i used the wrong oil as fully synthetic is 2 fine an oil i should have used semi synthetic

some 1 help am readsy 2 bin here and its a pity shes goes at 140mph nps and sounds great its only when u idle u hear this noise

I thought he had a spare unit with master key from another car?

If thats right why can he not just change the barrel for the donor?

He only needs a new master to unlock the boot and petrol panel, he has an ignition key.

Or am I missing something........ :duh:

hi yes i have the spare barrel for the fuel and boot switch and i have a master key for this barrel could u please show me details of hopw 2 remove this as we broke bits taking the last 1 out ie plastic trim

The keys are different.

Master key does all, valet key does ignition only. Like a hotel door key.

Electronics are nothing to do with it. The key is cut differently.

Lexus for a new master, no option :duh:

this sounds good but how much would it cost i must also add i have a donor ls400

and have the master key for it can i do the change of the barrel where the fuel flap switch and boot switch are

hi there i have a noise now coming form my lexus ls400 1990 its definetley inside the engine sounds like a loose belt of a pulley on outside but i replaced the tenshioner and idler bearing it still made noise after that i took the belt off and the noise is still there i have done a recent oil change and used fully synthetic oil

the noise goes away if i rev it up but when i idle it screeches like hell like metal against metal so i am assuming its something on the top half of the engine

please help

sourced a 2nd hand screen today £69 inc vat theres 1 on eBay new fitting kit for $122 if any 1 is intrested search world on eBay for lcd lexus

If you have a complete spare lock and switch  unit with key from a donor car, why not just change the lot?

Once it's done and you can pop the switch out, you will hardly ever use that facility

and you can just carry the master key in your wallet, in case someone accidentally locks it.

YES BUT I HAVE LOOKED AT THE MANUAL RELEASE FOR FUEL CAP AND BOOT AND THERES NO WAY WERE GONNA CHANGE THIS WITHOUT DAMAGE UNLESS SOME 1 HAS INSIDE INFO

no the key goes in slightly same as inside with the manual release dosnt go right in only so far i need some way of getting it open i am thinking of selling it 2 many problems with these motors like getting in 2 the boot

any help would b grateful

also looking ofr a lcd display for my 1990 model

honestly i have tried that the key wont work on the external boot lock or down the right side of the steering wheel or the glove box in the manual it says u need master key 2 open these imagine how frustrating its getting because i no theres stuff in the boot and i cant open here is there anyway i can cross wires or something for this 2 work i need big help here

the thing is i have anothe rlexus ls400 that i am breaking was wondering how do u change the manual release down the right hand side of the steering wheel as i got a spare 1 with tthe master key

when you mean master key,do you mean the remote control one?.

all i,ve got is 2 normal keys,but my man at lexus said he could it get a new remote etc with the key code,if not,its a lock kit for 700 + vat(2 years ago).

This discussion doesn't apply to you if you have a 1990 model. The master key issue only applies to vehicles with in-built immobilisers in the engine ECU (1998 onwards).

Also on the GS, LS, SC and probably RX after late 2000 (Oct 2000 onwards) a dealer can program a new master key without another master key. Special software can be loaded on the Toyota/Lexus diagnostic tool to do this.

ok i dont really need the master key i think all i need is 2 get my boot opend and the door lock key dosnt work down at the right hand side of the sterring wheel as i dont have the master key 2 activate it so i can use the manual release so how do i get the boot opend or can i get some kind of key 2 let me down in 2 the lock for the petrol flap and the boot also what i have done is removed the whole thing on another lexus am breaking so i could get the barrel as i have the master key for that vehicle but not the 1 am doing up any ideas how easy 2 change barrel ther?

guyz made an arse of this ok i need a master key mine no got 1 1990 lexus ls400 its a sweety paid £150 for it and theres nothing wrong at all with it just passed mot

i also bought a spare for £150 but 1 of the wheels were the timing belt sits on is broken well destroyed looking but its still there and engine is complete i would say u need some 1 who no's engines it is for sale 4.0 v8 if any 1 intrested just the engine not the box
