  1. Try these programming procedures:

    Procedure to program transponder/immoblizer:

    1. Make sure all doors and windows are closed.

    2. Insert Master key into the ignition cylinder. (master means you key which can start a car)

    3. Cycle the ignition cylinder from On to OFF five times.

    4. Open and close the driver side door 6 times.

    5. Remove the Master Key and insert the new duplicate key.

    6. The new key will be registered after 60 seconds. The THEFT light on the dashboard will go out, indicating that programming has been completed.

    -------------------

    Programming Remote:

1.Driver door open, other doors closed, no key in ignition

    2. Insert and remove key in ignition twice (without turning it on)

    3. Close and open drivers side door twice

    4. Insert and remove key from ignition

    5. Close and open drivers side door twice

    6. Insert key in ignition and close driver’s door

    7. Turn ignition to on then off(once)

    8. Remove key. The locks will cycle once

    9. Within 1 second after locks cycle - Press lock and unlock on the key at the same time for 2 seconds.

    10. W/in 1.5 seconds press lock on the key for one second.

    11. To stop programming- Open and close drivers door. Put key in ignition and pull out.

Other option - do search of companies who do car immobilizers programming - they are more than 100% cheap than dealer.

  2. And ? Is it sorted now ?

You mentioned that smart operates. Can you start the engine when put 'failed' key into ignition (if you do this SMART is not used just transponder in key)..

Question to Steve2006 - what when key fails to program on step C in Method2 ? I tried several times with two bought smart keys and every time I have two lock on end :( I successfully programmed both keys to start the engine - by inserting key into ignition, but I cannot use wireless lock/unlock nor SMART.

  3. Hi,

I owned LS400 '92, LS400'99 and now LS430'01 and latest model (430) is much, much better then LS400..

More comfortable, navigation is updatable (DVD), seats ventilated, turning radius improved, audio can be controlled from driver wheel buttons, more horsepower, driver seat has more options, suspension has additional mode - sport. I had two cars in the same time LS400 (very strong condition) and LS430 (need to be invested) and after two weeks of driving on LS430 I decided to sell LS400 (with no regret).

  4. I bought a new battery with 3 years guarantee from a local motor factors last november and over the past weeks the starter has got sluggish especially in the mornings all the lights were going out to start the car - so rang them - they said bring it back and we will test it - took it back this morning and they swapped it over no quibbles - no cheking - no testing. I was so pleased i gave them so more business and bought come blueprint filters from them (oil/air/cabin) - so just need to treat her to some fresh castrol edge 5w-30 and she will be good for another year.

oh yeah i had to use the toolkit for the first time ever in 4 years to change the battery over

so pleased with her - makes me smile every time i sit in her - have often thought about upgrading to the 430 but not totally convinced its a better car - sure the looks are very nice (54 onwards) but not sure about the drive and there are reliability issues - just been reading up on the for sale ones and there are failed steering motors, sat nav screen glitches etc etc - so ill hold onto mine for now......................

    1. about Battery - repair starter - I had same issue (LS400'99). New Battery was gone in few months. After I renewal starter - old Battery was like a new !

I did by myself (can share photos of disassemble of starter in LS400 if you need).

    2. LS430 is a big step forward via LS400 (I changed LS400 -> LS430 after four years) Difference in + for 430 is big. Power, brakes, steering, navigation, silence, equipment (ventilated seats), smart system etc. Get LS430 for one ride and you'll start to dream how to 'upgrade' from LS400 to LS430 :-)

  5. Hello Guys, I am having a problem with the N/S/R door sometimes when I open the car up the rear door stays locked,so I have to try 2or3times to unlock it--what I need is some information on how to remove the door panel to see what the problem is.Possibly just a clean up and some lubrication should fix it,all or any information would help. :)

    Cheers Shelldrake

    Hi,

2 years ago I repaired this issue on my LS400'99. If you want I can share photos (around 90) from step-by-step repair.

I didn't replaced small motor - just cleared it - worked with no problems till Nov '11 (LS400 was sold then).

  6. John N

    John,

many thanks for information - believe me - I found the same today via goggle search :-)

Two days ago I bought OBD2 <-> USB interface for 10 EU and read codes, but tomorrow will check procedure provided by you.

    Last update about my LS430:

    - replaced catalytic converters (both) - errors disappears and car (after EFI reset) was better till P0325 appears again and 'lex' doesn't accelerate at all.

I ordered (used part) of knock sensor - waiting for delivery - during this week will do a change (I know how deep I need to go - two years ago I repaired starter by my self on LS400). I'll make pictures and put on my picassa site.

    Regards,

    Mariusz

  7. Hi All !

I just bought LS430 2002 with check engine ON. At dealer checked on diagnostic tester three codes P0171, P0325 and P0420. Car slowly reacts on pedal depress, accelerates from 1000-2400 then PRM increased slowly to 4000 and then 'new knock' and power back. After some kilometers there is smell and filling hot under floor.

I checked codes and know what its means - my first idea is to replace catalytic converter on right side ? What is your opinion ?

When I reset ECU then car accelerates better (not as expected compared to own LS400), but after some time (0.5hr. of driving) check engine is back.

I'd like to check DTC codes by my self with no dealer labour - is it possible to use OBD socket and do some shorts (in camry and old LS'92 it was T0 end E1) ?

Thank you for advice (I'll not sell LS430 ;) )

    Regards,

    Mariusz

  8. Hi,

on 1st of March I was on automatic wash with my LS (of course with no engine clearing etc) as every one-two weeks.

From this time I had two days (first 1st of March, second - today 10th of March) with BIG trouble with engine :-( Between those 'faulty days' I did around 2000km with no troubles.

    When trouble occurs:

    1. Car has no power at all (engine runs on idle speed),

    2. Engine doesn't react for acceleration pedal (if I depress or press to maximum except point 3 below) the RPM is around 1000 and not changing,

    3. When I floor till kick-down is active (last 3-4cm from floor) then engine RPM goes up, but only to 2700RPM & no more and it has only 'some' power. After few seconds (max 10) power is lost again,

    4. when problem occurs CHECK ENG and CHECK VSC are displayed plus red diode is shine.

It doesn't mutter if I stop engine, remove key, start it again - problem appears and e.g. after 4 or 15 minutes all back to normal.

    I checked:

    1. under hood - all cables are connected to its connectors

    2. no any cable - TPS, MAF and rest are wet (they are dusty)

    3. in roof right side (where mobile module is installed) there was some water. I removed it, all connectors were exsiccated with special spray)

Car has no any damage, no third party equipment was/is installed there - all cables are OEM.

I tried to find how acceleration is send to engine on diagrams - seems there is a special TPS connected via cable with pedal and via wire to ECU. I think this part can be fault, but why if car was dry problem not appears ?

Any comments/ideas will be valuable (except comments of my English :winky: )

    Thank you,

    Mariusz

  9. Hello,

In my LS (1999 EU) there is navigation computer with CD reader (model 86841-50050) . I found on e-bay similar computer (different model coming from toyota avensis 08862-00840 -has DVD reader). This unit have the same connectors and I have an idea to replace my navigation computer with this from Avensis. Reason is - in Poland navigation maps are the only available on DVDs non CDs.

I think about two options - full replace navigation computer, option two - replace just CD with DVD reader. What do you think - it is a chance to work properly ?

Do you have wiring diagram for navigation computer connectors of LS400 1999 ?

Maybe some of you made similar modifications ?

    Thank you for your comments,

    Regards,

    Mariusz

  10. Hello,

I'm using GSM phone build in my LS (1999 EU) and work fine when playing with handset (I can hear perfect and other party also hears my voice). When I answer using sterling wheel button (microphone is build on the left side of it) I hear very well via left back speaker, but need to be 10cm from sterling wheel to other party hear me.

Do you know any (maybe hidden menu) options to increase sensitivity of microphone ? Did anyone of you replaced build-in microphone ?

    Thank you,

    Mariusz

  11. Hi,

is there light called 'CHECK ENGINE' on dash board of MK IV ? I can't see it during start a car (remember from previous MK I every time I turn key from ACC to start - check engine orange lamp was ON) in current car no :-(. If you have a picture of dash board with Check Engine ON and post it to me - thanks.

Second - is it possible to read ECU codes using TE1 and E1 short like in old models ? I saw that MK IV is equipped in OBD2 - it excludes 'traditional' access to check engine codes ?

    Thank you

    Regards,

    Mariusz

  12. Hello,

I own LS400 '99 from two months and looking for TV adapter to connect TV tuner or external source (dvd, PS) to navigation screen. Do you hear something or - better - have any experience in this ?

I'm also looking for pins-out of navigation module.

Do you know - is it service mode accessible from navi screen (I saw entry in service mode in RX300 on youtube.com) - maybe LS400 have/had similar ?

Today I found one switch under sterling column - near to foot light - can you tell me what is ?

And last question - my thief system arm without any signal - just one blink of turn signals - how can I trun 'bip' like in MK1 or MK2 ?

    Thank you

    Regards,

    Mariusz

p.s. My LS is EU version (bought in Germany)

  13. Hi Folks,

I not used this forum from almost year. Last month I sold old LS400(92) and bought new/used one - LS400 (99) EU version.

Car is in perfect condition, but I have question about temperature gauge.

Today was near to 40 degrees in Celsius and I traveled more than hour in traffic jam. Of course AIR COND was set to MAX COLD and after 20-25 minutes temperature gauge starter 'traveling' up :-(

When car was moved a little (100m) in jam temperature went down, but in next few minutes went higher than previous (maximum was one bar before red).

See on the picture: LS400 over heat

My question - is it normal ? Maybe I'm little in panic but...

Second - it is only one fan for air conditioner and engine heater ? And is hydraulic ? I don't understand why Japanese engineers not implemented electrical fans ?

    Thanks for help

    Mariusz
