What does that red button near the gear lever do on a MK1 Aristo?

Welcome Andyob.

Nothing to do with me, but there is a full leather interior on eBay at the moment. Just thought I'd flag it up in case anyone is in need!

Still can't quite work out why you're selling your present Aristo - it has to be one of the best Aristos anywhere - not just in the UK.
I haven't sold mine yet and I might yet keep it, would it be possible to come down and have a look at yours for ideas before you sell it? I'm only in Winchester and could pop down early next week if you don't mind?

No probs, I would check aswell!!
My car is fine on all the above by the way, lol. It was all checked over by Rising Sun Performance who you might know via skyline owners club

I drive lightly modified V300 Aristo. I pay £470 via A-Plan insurance. Always found them excellent. They give you credit for past driving history and also have a scheme where you can use your NCB on a second car.
I can get their number if you can't find it.

Thanks for all the compliments. I'm trying to fight the urge to get another skyline - gtrs are SO cheap right now.
I thought it would be an easy process. To be honest, I took the car initially because it is in such good nick that I thought it would be easier to sell than the stagea when I found the right gtr - I really didn't expect to fall for a 4 door saloon!!! That top end rush and the accompanying whoosh and roar is so addictive, especially when seated in a comfy electric leather armchair.
I get the feeling I might have the aristo for a while longer than I first thought.....

It is a fresh import.
*cue long, boring story - A guy in the trade bought it for himself via a contact in Japan, but by the time it arrived he realised he needed a bigger boot and one that wasn't lowered as he lives in the country. I had a stagea RSfourV (sort of a 4wd, rb25T skyline estate) which is pretty rare over here and he contacted me and made me 'an offer I couldn't refuse'. I was really after a R32 GTR but it drives so well and is so clean I decided to do the deal and enjoy it for a while. The insurance is amazingly about £300 cheaper than a Stagea or a GTR too.
In short, I am still kind of on the lookout for a good GTR, but I am in less of a rush than I was!!!!
I've never seen tailpipes/backboxes made like this before - you are probably right and its a custom system. I shouldn't like the 'Flash Gordon Spaceship' look of them..... but I do. Yours must be LOUD???

Monster - When I first saw the exhausts my initial thought was 'those are going to have to go', but they sound glorious and I must admit that their looks really grow on you. The induction and BOV noise is also really addictive; I have to stop myself from blipping the throttle all the time. I fitted a decent head unit and I hardly turn it on!
JockSuper7 - I'm in Winchester, so just down the road form you.
Scarface - Looking at the pics I know what you mean. They don't look quite so merc-like in the flesh. I think its cause of the deeper polished rim and the proportions in the middle are different... I'm not sure they would look so good if the car wasn't so low though.

I've posted a few pics on the gallery. Sorry its a bit dirty. It looks much lower in real life.
I'll take some more in a place more picturesque than Tesco car park soon!!
Does anyone know who made the exhaust? I can't see a maker's mark easily - it is a full cat back system, not just back boxes.
Liam
looks nice mate, are wheels genuine toyota?
No they are aftermarket proper 3 piece 17" (look bigger) with deep polished alloy rims. Very good quality and really suit the car- marked 'Zauber' I think, I'll check if you want, although I expect they were very expensive new - 255s at the back and 235s at the front.

That looks mice mate :D
Thanks. It is almost perfect and seems V quick - just a small mark on a rear seat and a little wear on the gearknob. Only bit of rust is on the nut for the bracket for the induction kit!!!

I could do with the boot lifters too, mine work, but they are a little tired (or that could be me!)

As it is a black car, maybe try taking a photo on a different background ie not grey concrete/branches/sky. on a grass lawn would show off the colour and shape better IMHO. Also I really like seeing a side on view, but that's probably just me. Its a cracking car - good luck with the sale.
Liam
Ps with perfomance cars everyone wants to know 'what it does', so putting the BHP higher up might grab people that don't know what an Aristo is. The way you have it, a quick glance would show '320bhp' which is good ..... but 400bhp is better!
-
Just to confuse things. If your car has an induction kit replacing the standard airbox, the BOV will often be much more audible. In my experience this is the same for many turbo cars. Mine sounds as if it has an A/M BOV, but as far as I can see its standard.

I went to Toyota Southampton yesterday as I wanted a bolt and a small clamp to make my engine bay perfect. After bad experinces with Nissan with my skyline I wasn't expecting much and was amazed at how helpful and positive they were. Total bill is about a tenner and parts will be here on Friday!
Much is made of bad service on forums, so I thought that a good response from a main dealer deserved credit.

Thanks, I'll give them a call

Tempo, where in Bristol are you having this done? Do you have a phone number? I haven't picked the car up yet and might want to renegotiate the deal if its going to cost £200 to sort this!
thanks

Chris,
don't be such a grown up. I value my license so don't drive fast on the road, I would always chose acceleration and handling over top speed anyway, but the child in me still wants to say 'it can do 200mph' etc. I freely admit I'm a big kid, but I don't drive like one. To be honest we would probably all be better off with one litre ford Kas (apologies to anyone who's got one!) and tuning a car makes very little sense, financial or otherwise.
Have fun

Will do. I might even get my car today depending on reg plates.
I see you're not getting much sleep either - young kids or lots of work? I'm struggling with both!! Please don't say 'lots of beer' as I feel like I haven't visited a pub for years.

I didn't notice the milometer not working. I was more interested in the speedo as I was test driving it!!! I'll check.
Is this fix a relay, or chip or what?
thanks
