  1. I have the 30GB version. Quality is excellent and it's as easy as pie to operate and convert to DVD. I got from nomatica in france on the web and saved £200 versus the dixons high street price - although that isn't saying much these days. Only draw back was manuals came in every language but english so I downloaded english version as pdf and printed out.

  2. Hi there,

unfortunately this range of fuel economy is the price you have to pay for such a lovely car. I just sold my IS200 Sport and I was consistently getting in the mid 20's. This increased from low 20's once I'd had my fun thrashing around in it and started to drive it sensibly.

Thankfully the new IS is giving me 35-36 mpg and has a bigger tank so wife is not complaining as much about my frequency of filling up.

    Hope you enjoy it.

  3. 1)Hi has anyone removed their mm system from the dash yet? i would like to connect an ipod adapter that controls the ipod i had one in my old car (citroen Picasso :D ).

2)Is the head unit just a pioneer head unit? if so would pioneers cd-ib100 adapter connect and work.

    3) does anyone have any links to pictures showing the rear connections on the new is mm system?

    many thanks

Try this link it gives details of connections etc.

  4. Thanks all for the comments. I managed to get a trip down to Hull the other day and the re-route option came up.

The car is excellent, and the MM is so very much worth it.

My DVD is out of date. I have been told £100 for upgrade by Cov dealer, someone else told me it is more like £400. Has anyone ever upgraded, and what is the cost? Is there a non-dealer method which will not invalidate warranty?

  5. I have just got an IS250 with MM and am reading through the manual (ok sad man maybe). It mentions RDS-TMC which is a traffic alerting system. Does this work on the IS250 in the UK. I looked up this functionality on the web and found that it comes in the LS range.

I can check it out on a run at some point but just wondered if anyone had used it/ if it works.

  6. Thanks guys - help much appreciated. To be honest I think I might keep it and give it to my mrs - there's nothing wrong with the car and it'll be a good second car !

I'm going for an IS300 by the way

You will definately be disappointed and angry with the price you will be quoted on selling your IS200, been there with MK Lexus, wanted the new 250IS but they were struggling to offer me 9K, mine is a 51 plate with 30K immaculate in every way. I bought mine one year ago in Hadleigh for 12,850 18k on the clock, so one year on! and a heafty loss... But I like it and will be keeping it for a while yet... No real choice I suppose> :driving:

Just managed to scrape 11.5k for my 53 IS Sport with 26k on the clock. I used Glass's on the web as a datum. It includes private sale price as well. Also you could look at Parkers on the web for free although the prices tend to be a bit on the high side.

  7. you can cut the speed signal going to the system but that would probably affect fuel computer and sat nav position if the GPS signal is lost.

There is a hack for this for the new IS250. I would expect there is one for your model if you search for it. It would probably come from the US. Have a look at the IS pages on this website to see the extent of work required to get around this. It could even be that the hack would work for your car, as i expect the sat nav unit will be similar?

  8. Nope, try it... press the button down and you can move the shift out of park without your foot on the break and the engine started.

I will try and take a look in the manual tomorrow if I get chance and find the definative answer :) But as far as I can see it defeats the (safety?) interlocks to alow the car to be put in to gear.

You are right, see page 357 of the manual "steps in case of emergency". I cannot upload the manual I have - do I need to be a gold member to be able to do that?

  9. My IS200 has recently developed a slight starting problem. Its never actually failed to start, but it usually happens when ive left the car for a good few hours, in the mornings and after worrk etc.

It seems to turn over for longer than normal, sometimes for around 5 seconds, then finally starts. It turns over at the same speed as normal but seems to struggle to fire up.

Anyone have or had a similar problem???

    Thanks in advance, Rich. :D

I have had the same on my 53 plate IS 200 sport. I generally keep it in the garage and thus never have an issue. But on the odd occasion I stay in a hotel and leave it outside I do sometimes find is is a bit hesitant. I have never had an issue with getting it going though.

  10. Having just bought a 2002 IS300 yesterday I was disappointed to not get an owners manual and whilst I can manage to work out most of the controls, the SHIFT LOCK button on the auto transmission is foxing me. When I press it there is not any light displaying in the instrument panel to say if its on or not so WHAT DOES IT DO????.

Also does anyone know where I can get a photocopy or original of the Owners Manual ??

It lets you move the transmission out of park without the engine running or the break pressed. Useful only if you want to change out of park without the engine running or your foot on the break. iirc :)

I was told by salesman that this was for towing? Allows the transmission to be disengaged he said. Although if you cannot tell that it is on or off this could be quite a concern.

  11. I too had the same problem, pulled the seat belt out to put it on and it did not retract to tighten, so had to drive home with a loose seat belt, but after driving a short distance the belt seemed to rectify itself.

This happened five days into having the new car and has not occured since. If it happens again I will go straight back to the dealer.

I have issues with the baby's car seat in my IS200 when i put the seat belt round it. The belt locks and I cannot pull it out any further to remove the baby seat. I have real job getting it sorted. Basically I have to remove the whole seat base unit, allow the belt to fully retract and then it works again. Never happened in out other car (a fiat  ).

I would guess it's something related to the inertia reel system which may have moved over the new IS 250 as well?

  12. Help required, I am looking to lease company car, possibly IS220 se or sport with mm, just wandered what others thought of with regards to company car tax. Other options are Jaguar x-type, BM320d, Passat 168bhp sel all diesels.

Any body had any good lease quotes on IS220d se or above 36 months 20k average per year and non maintenance.

Check out www.avail.co.uk - you can get quotes for almost anything - don't know if they are any good though.......

  13. Hi all I just registered with this forum. Lots of useful and interesting comments on here.

Hi Rogers and welcome to the club.

£2700 seems steep for the MM but it is well worth the money. Not only do you get an excellent Sat Nav (best in the industry I believe) but also a cracking Mark Levinson sound system which sounds awesome (300 watts, no distortion), six disc DVD player, the ability to play DVDs with the 5.1 surround sound which goes with it, a very good rear parking camera, Bluetooth phone connection which works seamlessly and finally, voice activation of the climate, audio, phone and sat nav systems.

Dunno about the Sport with an auto, somehow I cant really see Lexus doing it. What is it that you like about the sport ? I believe the 250 se-l is pretty close to the sport in terms of equipment levels and I'm sure you'll be able to add some of the sporty stuff as aftermarket; 18 inch wheels, pedals etc. You'd lose the seats and the suspension though.

Yes, I have read more and more about the MM and am coming round to the idea of it. I have a sport now and I know mechanically it's not really much different, but on the IS200 i just love the little details like the spoiler, pedals and kick plates. Also I guess I am trying to optimise my choice to get everything I want below £30k.

    Cheers

  14. Reversing beep was fitted to early UK manual IS200's in my experience. Don't know about later models.

My dealer told me it was done to prevent you accidently selecting reverse while accelarating hard. The gearbox is so slick and the reverse doesn't have a solid gate on it, so it is easier than most cars to select reverse by mistake - not such a good idea when gunning it!

Lorry-like beep inside the car was irritating though....!

Not sure about your choice re. value for money. It depends which make it is. Did you see my Auto Express link. earlier on this thread?

    Cheers,

    IanB :D

when i first got my LEX i was always wondering why i beeps

But was i got used to the gear box a couple of times at lights i did slip it into reverse

So i am glad it has the beep

I too accidentally slipped into reverse at lights and just realised due to the beep. My salesman said there were some serious incidents and the beep was then fitted as standard. I would be wary of removing it

  15. Hi all I just registered with this forum. Lots of useful and interesting comments on here.

I am just getting ready to trade in my IS200 sport for a new IS250 but cannot make up my mind on which to go for. I'd like a 250 Sport with Auto gearbox, but that's not available. Is there any chance one will come along later? Also had anyone tinkered with the auto gearbox change settings apparently you can adjust for faster / slower changes. I haven't read that anywhere yet though.

Biggest disappointment to me is the cost of the multimedia option which is a bit over the top if all you want is the sat nav. I like the rear camera as even my current car is difficult to just when reversing, but at £2700 it's quite a chunk of change....

Keep the reviews coming - they're excellent.

  16. I have an IS200 and am looking at which IS250 I will get. My boss has just bought an Auto IS250 SE which he says has functions for setting up the gearbox for faster or slower changes. I haven't heard anything about this functionality anywhere else. does anyone know if it is a useful function?
