  1. i have noticed a whistling noise from one of the driverside wheels, its constant regardless of steering etc, getting faster as i speed up, its faint and have been told cheap pads can be the cause of this but i think it could be a sticky caliper, extremely annoying so going to get it sorted asap

Let us know because we are all waiting for a answer so far. I took all the wheels off on the weekend and breaks but nothing so keep us posted. are mintex brakes clasified as cheap?? that is what I got

  2. Did you change the rear disc/drums as well. When I changed mine a couple of years ago, I had a noise like you describe, but I did the fronts as back on different days so new it was at the back somewhere. When I took it apart there was scraping between the dus shield as a groove at the rear of the disc hammered it away a bit and it went away. In fact, thinking about it, before I changed them, the originals used to make a noise only when I turned right, so I guess its cos of slight movement in the bearings.

Thanks Gareth will check the lot now on the weekend

  3. have you tried the dust shield, may have been slightly bent when changing pads, try bending it away from the disc

Good call Bazza, Ill try tonight Ta

Right I try the dust shield and nothing noise still there a getting a little louder, also when I turn left it disapeared, as soon as i turn the wheel back to straight it come back, if i turn right the noise remaind?? anymore help??

    Thank you

  4. I know what I would do...Find out what side the noise is coming from and then have a look by taking off the wheel/s and see if you can spot anything?

That would be my first steps.

Thank Abass, did that and nothing, had a good spray air gun to it, just incase it was something stock there and nothing still the same.

  5. Hi Guys, got a bit of canandrumm, recently I change brakes, mintex and they are quiet sharp, anyway. Took a trip down south to Cornwall, very nice by the way, love the people and service, we should summer more in the uk even when is winter, once again anyway, 300 miles round trip and everything fine. Park the car for 2 days and when to work, as one those with the music blasting away and for some reason something was not right. So I kill the music and there it was a funny rotating noise, the faster you when the noise it got, but not when you when around a curve, as soon as you when again on straight line it come back.

Maybe as little as dirt but I had the car for sometime now and never that noise, any ideas anyone????

My friend is mech and I always like to get it them right before him, he thinks am not good at the stuff, am not to bad actually but he does not know that. Last time when the coils when he said was the catalyst, so dont take the car to him really he has not idea.

Any help will be great otherwise to the rip off merchants AKA Toyota family.

    Thank you all

  6. Problem is "Some" testers set their own standards?

Well to be honest they were pretty knackered to be honest. They give them to me as a souvenir and there was not grease and both where really dry and loose, so this time they where correct, unfortunatly for me.

Tony Ill call you later in the week to see if you can fit me in.

    Thanks again

  7. I would go see the people that did your tracking for you,and also talk to the mot station. If the ball joint failed the mot test then it must have had "excessive" play in it. If it did have "excessive" play in it when mot,ed i would imagine it would have had some play in it when when the tracking was done, 2 months earlier and therefore shouldnt have been tracked. A ball joint wont go from ok to worn out in 2 months.

Sure the guys at WIM check for wear and play before they track a car as should anyone. If there was slight play in the joint then it shouldnt have failed the mot test to quote the mot testers manuel " check for excessive wear" yes you will need your tracking doing again, should you have to pay for it, at my garage, no you wouldnt.

So is life, I will check tomorrow with Tyre company about the tracking in the first place. I spoke to the garage about that ball joint and as per the report "Excessive play".

    Thank for the help

  8. YES !

you should replace both ball joints

then get your geo done WIM is the place to go

    Ade :D

    I have replace both already.

Just what I was afraid off, I just got done the geo 2 months ago set me back £100

    Thank you for that Ade

If we did the geo then i will re-do it for £40 if that helps.

Unfortunatly Tony i did not, I did booked with you though, but due to work commitments I had to do it in Britania Tyres Cov.

Thank you anyway, if I new before I will it made the trip in the first place.

  9. Quiet funny, I change the lower ball joint during the week, because felt MOT, anyway everything ok now pass MOT but my wheel when am on straight road or motorway i looks out of place a little to the left??? do I need tracking?? does it affect the geometric??

    Thank you in advance

  10. :crybaby: My lex is kind of off at the moment, driving back from work 5 days ago I start losing power & felt like it was juddery, like something in the fuel line ? Trc & engine management light is been flashing. I clean the plugs and check all wired and connections but not luck.

It is really odd because whe you reach 3k rpm the juddery kind of dissapear but you can still something is not right. Any help will be great.

I got a friend of a friend who is specialist on toyota so monday will get to read the management system a shed some light on the subject, that is if we get him free.

    Ta again

Ps:obd2 reader where is the best for that

  11.:question: resetting the ECU has nothing to do with your problem but anyway........ as it only started to do it after u changed the oil i would be inclined to change it again to make sure

Oil filter was change to but like you said I will change them again and I let you know the outcome.

    Thanks

  12. firstly how old and how many miles has the car done? because it sound that the hydraulic lifters are worn.

OR did the car do this before the oil change??

Actually it only started after I change the oil and sparks and before you ask I did reset the CPU by the Battery so it was total wipe out.

I used 5/50 oil only and change it every 6 k miles and he cars is done 80k, am trying to keep it on good running condition.
