  1. Go into service mode (Info button held in and lights off > on 3 times) then pick the nav check, then sensors - shows the speed on the right hand side - need to go into service mode with the engine on, otherwise kicks you out when you start the engine. Have tried with both my old snooper (from my BM) and my new one and both read the same. Only thing I could think was that it might be calibrated for 17" tyres (on the basis that most IS will have these) but mine has 16" as it is base model.

  2. Having finally got round to setting my Snooper up, I was surprised at how different the speed on the speedo vs. the Snooper GPS speed is. It is always over reading by at least 10% - 30 on car = 25 on Snooper, 70 = 62 etc. I know speedo's typically (are required?) to over read, but this is much further out than I have experienced before - my BM :shutit: was generally within a couple of mph. Even the MM system shows the speed as the same as the snooper. Is this right? How far out are yours?

  3. Virtually my first drive in an auto was test driving the IS250, quickest way to disappoint yourself with a lexus is to drive the Manual AFTER you've driven the auto - the one I drove was horrendous - needed help to get it into 2nd. No looking back since my Auto arrived last March. There's always the power mode and paddles when you feel like razzing around a bit. So much more refined and the box can still surprise you by changing down one more gear than you thought and then launches you at the horizon

  4. If you can live with the flashing sealtbelt sign (and want to take your life in your own hands.....) you can disable the beep by doing the following (copied from another post - I would link to it but this is quicker for me than working out how to link)

    1. turn the key to the ON position (press Start 2 times), foot off the brake

    2. cycle the odometer with the trip reset button until the ODO is displayed (not trip A or B )

    3. turn the ignition to the LOCK (OFF) position

    4. unbuckle the driver's seatbelt if it was buckled.

    5. turn the key to the ON position (Press Start 2 times). when the dash lights have come on, press and hold the trip reset button and count a slow 12 seconds. (editor's note, hold it more like 30 sec)

    6. while still holding the trip reset button, buckle the driver's side seatbelt.

    7. the odometer display should read "b ON" or "b OFF". toggle the beep OFF with the trip reset.

    8. the process should be completed when you unbuckle or turn the key off

  5. As someone who had a Focus, then a 3-Series Coupe and now a IS250, I would say the Lexus is by far the nicest place to sit while driving. The Focus was awesome for handling, and indeed when replacing it, my main criteria was that it had to handle at least as well - hence the 3-series. But in terms of quality, the Focus always beat it hands down. No faults whatsoever with the Focus, but the 3-series.......seals, window mechanisms etc. nothing major but all irritating. And as far as the dealers go, I asked 2 BMW dealers to arrange test drives of the 325i, but both cancelled at the last minute and then never came back to me. So I bought a lexus, and I'm still smiling. My only criticism is the road noise - quite obvious until you put on the amazing stereo. no creaks, rattles etc - lets hope it stays this good. And the MPG is better in the IS250 than in my 318ci (not quite sure how). The Top Gear roadtest of the IS250SE finished as follows:

You can imagine the BMW engineers getting hold of this new IS250 somewhere in a darkened warehouse and torturing its secrets out of it with military-grade intrusion software and miniature toffee hammers, while swearing softly in Bavarian and trying to think of an excuse.

The less hardy marketeers have already sloped off down the pub to get slowly drunk and sing secret corporate karaoke songs about the good old days when Lexii were merely confidence-boosted Toyotas and BMW could sell you a bent piece of angle iron and we'd all pay extra for the rust.

Looks like the 3-series finally has some competition

  6. You can do a partial postcode search, If you pick town, the 5th option down should be POSTCODE (on the screen where you would choose to input the town name or recent etc) This will then limit the number of streets. Not ideal - My TomTom had full postcode seach which is far far easier, but this is better than nothing (isn't it???). Hope this helps.

Now to work out how to enable it while driving......
