  1. I got a blank some time ago.

Been trying ever since to get it cut.

Seems everywhere I go. (I'm up to 5 key cutting shops now) they are unable to do it as...

    1. They don't do laser cut keys.

    2. They have not got small enough cutters. Or

    3. (This is my favourite) Did you get it from ebay? If you did I won't do it because it burns straight through those.

I have a blank that I got off of eBay that I've had for a couple of years cos I couldn't find anyone who could cut it !!

So if anyone knows anyone in the Herts/Bucks area who can do it, let me know please

  2. A few things spring to mind

1 - May need to download the updated/newer version of Activesync, some versions will need not recoginse the USB Device to be syncd

2 - The USB Drivers on your PC maybe outdated/incorrect version to allow the sync to correctly see and configure the USB Device (Service Pack 3 sometimes had this issue)

3 - USB Port or Cable faulty

Being USB, you should be able to charge the Sat Nav from the PC, I'd check this first to see if there's a connection between the PC and the Device, this would then tell you if your looking at hardware or software

You also may have to tell the device that you intend on using a USB Connection and may need to turn on in the settings

    Thanks for that mate.

    In answer to your advice:

    1 - I think I've installed the latest version of Activesync - v4.5

    2 - I have SP3 installed. How do check/update the drivers?

3 - Device charges from supplied USB cable. So I'm guessing cable is ok.

I will check if the device has settings for switching on the sync instruction.

    Cheers again

  3. Hi mate

As an owner of a SportCross for the last 3 years I can honestly say its a great car!

Reliable, well built, fairly rare compared to the saloons. Never had anything go wrong with either of my IS's.

As for boot space, we go to the in-laws regularly (wife and 2 kids) and we take a large suitcase, 2 large coolbags, 2 sportsbags, numerous carriers and a buggy. Dropping the boot floor down gains a few inches as mentioned previously.

Also, the rear seats fold down for the larger load. And additionally, the front passenger seat folds forward too!

I've actually had 12 foot wardrobe panels in mine!

Drives and feels just like a regular IS (I had one for 2 years prior to the SportCross) but you have a hatchback boot!

Don't know what year you're looking for, but I've just decided to sell mine. See here: Click Me

  4. Or that all replacement wheels have a 1yr warranty on them reguardless of what warranty if any is left on their car.

I asked my Dealer if my replacement refurbs had a new warranty when I collected mine and he said "No, the warranty on them runs out with the original 3 year warranty" !!!!

How do you know that the refurbs have a 1 year warranty of their own snake??

  5. I'm 35. On my 2nd IS. First was an SE, now got a SportCross for the Hatchback boot.

Very first car was a old R-reg (78?) Mark 2 Escort. Extras included mushrooms in the passenger footwell due to holes in the floor!! Gypos nicked it eventually!! Only took the stereo, the speakers and the Battery out when it was found!! Most valuable bits!!

  6. As a SportCross owner theres not much to add to what these guys have said.

I've had calipers and set of alloys replaced before warranty ran out in March.

Just one other thing I would look for, and thats scrapes, marks and dents in the roof lining, and the dash trim, especially round the air-vents. Why I hear you asking??? Well if you imagine, the seats go down, and you can carry long stuff home from your favourite DIY store - so interior is now subjected to lengths of 4x2 being fed from the rear, over the seats, and crashing into the dash!!!!

I had a couple scrapes repaired on mine before handing over the cash - very impressed too, a good match can be achieved. Although I missed one - on the drivers side too!!! :msn-cry: not happy!!!!

I've actually brought home a 12 foot long wardrobe end panel in mine - literally wedged over the dash into windscreen as far as possible, over flattened passenger seat, over flat rear seats, into boot, touching inner edge of boot!!!!

I agree its not as roomy as a 'proper' estate, but I can get the kids buggy in now without taking the wheels off first - which is what we had to do with my old SE !!!!

I see your in Letchworth Charles - I'm in Stevenage. Which garage is the SC at?? Might see you around!! Post some pics WHEN you buy her!!! You know you wanna!!!

  7. Cheers Guys.

In my defence, the instructions on the Dashmount website DONT mention removing the TRC Panel!!!

    LOC to the rescue again!!!

    WITHOUT GPS

Step 1: Unclip the plastic tray on top of the dashboard with a trim tool, starting at the screen side first.

    WITH GPS

Step 1: Unclip the plastic trim panel above the air vent assembly CAREFULLY with a trim tool.

Step 2: Remove the two 8mm nuts above the air vent assembly and then the assembly itself.

Step 3: Remove the two 10mm nuts above the heater control assembly and then the assembly itself.

Step 4: Locate the arm of the bracket with the two bolts on the side of the radio unit.

Step 5: Refit the heater unit, bolts and trim panels.

Step 6: Refit the heater control assembly and locate the screws.

  8. Can someone talk me thru getting the centre console dash out please, in order to fit a Dash Mount Bracket.

I managed to get the Sat Nav housing out and the screws underneath that, but the heater control panel WILL NOT SHIFT!!!

I'm gonna break something in a minute!!!!

Please advise, and do I need any 'special' tools??

    Cheers guys

  9. Been using mac's since being converted a few years ago, and now on my 3rd and think they are great.

if you think that the new ones are a bit above your budget, look for the ibooks. They've only just been replaced by the new macbook but are still really good and will be in your price budget (check ebay).

They are a lot easier to use (once you've got used to them) and your dad won't have any problems with viruses etc.

Plus you won't really have to go for the top of range spec with macs as they are plenty powerful enough. :D

I know what your saying fellas, I've been using them at work for over 10 years, but the thought of my old man having to learn a new OS doesn't bear thinking about!!!! He'll never be off the phone to me!!!

I know they're easier to learn and use, but he's had a PC now for 6 or 7 years and barely knows his way around that!!!

Thanks for all the other comments guys.

  10. My parents are moving to Spain shortly and want to change their PC before they go so I can set it up and show him the new stuff he needs to know cos I wont be there to get him out of trouble!!!

He's asked whether a laptop would be worth getting, and after looking at prices/specs it seems that you pay a premium for a laptop. I've never bought a laptop, only desktops.

Can anyone fill me in with regards to best processors to go for, spec in general really.

Only wanna spend around £600-£650 all in.

I've looked at Dell Inspirons but really have nothing to compare to with regards to reliability etc.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Cheers :winky:

  11. Can't help you on the SatNav screen problem mate, but I do know that you can't fit a bottom loader into an early IS - the connector at the back is different I think.

Someone more knowledgable should help you out soon, but I would say your better off sticking getting yourself a decent aftermarket player. Thats what I'd do anyway.
