Just popped out to the car to check our destination is ready for our trip tomorrow and there's no Navigation option, no maps, no Destination option, nothing... !!

This happened to me once while driving. The whole sat nav section just disappeared. After a 20 minute stop at a motorway services it was back to normal and hasn’t happened since.

I don’t think there is any SD card on these models. All the updates are done by a USB stick in the USB port. The maps can update OTA (I think) and you can also update them using Lexus-tech.eu website. Your RC is a year newer than mine though so might be the MM19 version rather than MM17.

Absolutely spot on that was the setting when he showed me! I downloaded and printed both manuals, you would have thought a premium marque would include them 🙄. Lots of pages.

Just a quick question about the car. Does it have Android Auto? I don't think it does as I can't find a setting for it but just making sure.

As already advised sadly no option to update to include android auto or car play. They do come though with 3 years of map care from date first registered as new. You should therefore be able to update the maps to the latest version if not already done. There’s more than one way of doing this but I’ve found the Lexus tech EU site the easiest. Some dealers will update the maps free of charge when they do a service, others will charge for it.

  3. There is a setting to disable the smart entry system  - presumably to reduce risk of key clone theft. I’ve used it in the past and when set it does require you to hold the key against the start button in order to start the car. You should though have still been able to open the car using the buttons on the fob but not the sensor on the car door handle. I’d have been suspicious of the 12v main Battery as well though. It doesn’t tolerate being used to fiddle with settings for any length of time unless you are in ready mode. This was stressed to me by the Lexus dealer that sold the car to me on handover.

It’s well worth downloading both manuals from the website and having a browse. There are a lot of settings that you can customise……….😂

  4. I must admit I don’t tend to notice any lag if I’m in sports mode. That’s an RC300h but I’m pretty sure it’s the same generation hybrid as the IS. For this reason I do use sports mode when I’m driving on the motorway as in this scenario sports mode doesn’t seem to affect fuel consumption (as the engine is running all the time anyway) and it’s much more responsive if you want to accelerate into a gap. If I hit heavy traffic then I’ll put it back into normal or eco as it definitely does affect fuel consumption then.

  5. I had a IS250 from new until very recently. Loved the car but awful in snow. In Liverpool though it rarely snows. I bought snow socks for it 7 years ago after the last really bad winter. They sat in my boot each winter unused until last year. An unpredicted snow storm last year resulted in a lot of roads being ungritted. I used the snow socks and they worked really well. Better traction than the 4 x 4’s BUT it’s flat round here so I did not try them on a hill. Took about 10 minutes to get them on and 5 minutes to get them off again.
