  1. How loud is this noise and are you sure grinding is the sound.

Mine made what is almost a hissing metal on metal sound not a grinding. I think some modern hard wearing pads are just generally noisier than others and its something you have to accept. I had mine skimmed and it made no difference, having an RX400h there is a certain amount of motor noise as well when I am braking and slowing down.

Thanks for the replies on this, I just had a call from my local Lexus dealer who is going to take the car for a few days and try and get to the bottom of my problems. They have also offered me a laon car.

I have to admit that the Services Dept at Lexus Bracknell have been excellent each time I have dealt with them over the years.

    Cheers

  2. I do hope someone knows what I am going to blab on about !!!

I have a MK2 RX300 (2003) and the brakes seem to grind and make a noise when braking as the car is just coming to a halt, Lexus has had the brakes out skimmed them flat and cleaned them (twice now), but the noise persists - any suggestions on this one ?

Also, when I am driving I can hear a whining noise, I thought it may be wheel bearings or the gearbox (or something), but again Lexus has looked at it and all they did was change the transmission oil, but I still have the noise. They have suggest taking the car apart as far as taking all the brake parts apart and anything else which is around those areas and giving it a good clean and lubrication, but the labour alone has been estaimated at approx 8 hours !!!!

Has anyone got any advise or had the same problems which I am having...PLEASE !!

    Thanks

  3. When this first happened to me I thought my tyres were under inflated, it is some-what annoying as you say. It is as if the rims are whacking off the speed bump at a speed of only 10mph...Not good.

I have the same problem on my 2005 Rx300. As you describe, ionly when over something like 10mph, as it comes down a spped-hump, I feel a knocking sound/thump! Really annoying me. Probnelm is, I just noticed this after fitting LPG conversion with tank where spare wheel used to be underneath the car. Any ideas???

Just a quick question on the LPG conversion ! Did this affect your Lexus warranty ? I have extended warranty on my 2003 Mark 2 and my Lexus dealer said that if I fitted LPG, the warranty would become invalid.

  4. I am somewhat perturbed to realise that I have lost £10k in one year driving an RX300. On top of fuel and servicing/repair costs.

Part-ex'd my IS200 which I had owned for five trouble-free years in July 06 for a 53 plate RX 300 SE with 33k on the clock. £24k and you assume that the bulk of the depreciation has been taken. lovely car and I am more than pleased with the image, comfort, gadgets, ride etc.

In August 07, with 50k on the clock when I enquire about getting into something a little less thirsty I am quoted £14k trade-in for it by the same dealer. Is it just me or is that a tad much? Nearly 60 pence per mile on top of fuel. Parkers tallies with the value. I must have got done last year by the same dealer.

Turns out that the 'larger' vehicle has become highly unpopular in this environmentally mental world we live in and I guess I just have to take it on the chin. So I think I will sit back and wait and see what happens. On that trend I will have a £4k vehicle come next summer so I may as well run it into the ground...

Regardless of what is said on this topic, we should all know that once you buy a Lexus (especially a RX), then you are commiting to money down the pan unless you hold onto it for a VERY long time. It does not amaize me that when you go into Lexus to buy a car, they never mention the dramatic reduction in depreciation, but if you go into trade one in, then they ram it down your throat. Once you have crossed the line then you are commited, unless you have pots of money !!!

To be honest if the depreciation was not this bad I would probably get rid of mine, but I am stuck with it, even though I loke the car.

  5. Hi, does anyone have any tips on how to fit this air filter. I have tried it, but when I slot it in, it's impossible to close the air filter compartment lid. What am I doing wrong :tsktsk:

Just a update on this. I have spoken to K&N direct and allthough their website states part number 33-2145-1 for a 2003 mark 2 Lexus RX300, it should come up with part number 33-2260 which is the filter listed for the Lexus RX330.

Both K&N and Halfords (where I bought it) have exchanged it with no problem.

  6. Mine fitted perfectly, 2001 Mk1 RX 300, K&N part no: 33-2145-1, hope this helps.

I have double checked the K&N website and for my year and model it's the same part number as yours. Can you remember when you fitted it, did you put the filter in the lid, rather than sitting on the case itself ? which ever way I try it, I cannot get the lid closed !!

I am going to mail K&N today and see what they say.

    Cheers

  7. hmmm, just got my new shape rx300 se-l serviced, they gave me a rx400-h courtesy car. loved it. i heard theres a £180 sat nav upgrade- will it make my screen look like the 400's, which i really preferred? (both uk cars). it was much clearer. i regularily go to a building 1mile south of the m27. the nav routes me along the m27 and then announces "you have reached your destination, guidance will now end" as i am doing 70 mph, miles from a motorway exit. the site i want to get to is not new. will the nav upgrade fix this? i know my way without nav (pretty much), its just annoying.

couple of other q's, can someone confirm that the nav codes don't work on uk cars? (enter address in motion). ive been playing with the USA codes for ages.

i also want bluetooth- can it be retrofitted?

anyone have a list of CBEST / C-BEST codes that work on uk 300's (v2) ? i would like doors to auto lock with key in ignition.

otherwise i love the car. ive had no air suspension problems (leaning etc.) has anyone upgraded from a rx300 v2 to a rx400-h ? was it worth it? can you do nav in motion on the 400's?

sorry for all the q's. ive searched here for the info, but think the topics could do with an update.

    thanks

    andy

When my RX300 was in for a service, they gave me a RX350 and the sat nav screen was far better, more options and looked better. I have just bought the very latest sat nav disc from www.lexus-mapudates.eu for £108 including shipping, Lexus main dealer wanted about £250 !! I was hoping that the disc would have updated the screen and functions, but all it did was update the actual map details and POI (which is why I did it). If anyone does know how to make the sat nav screen on a 2003 RX look like the brand new models, I would love to know.

  8. Hi,

I need a replacement rear wiper, as my current one has split, I believe Bosch is best, does anyone know where I can get the rear window blade ? I can find plenty of suppliers for the front wipers, but none that can supply the rear. I DO NOT want to go to Lexus (unless I really have to), as I dread to think what they will charge for a piece of rubber !!

    Cheers

I had some a set of wiper blades "in stock" from Lidl and fitted one them at a total cost of 0.99p and it does the job very well.

As Terry said just measure your old one and get them from Halfords or simialr auot shop, our local chap in Brigg when I needed front ones put on Bosch(cheaper than Halfords) and free fitting. He is also good for getting discounted parts.I only go to Lexus if no other option for specialist jobs.Just bought 8 NGK iridium plugs IFR6a 11 (new but unboxed) on e-bay for a total of £18 and Lexus wanted in excessof £9 each ???.

    Happy wiping :winky:

    Cheers Guys

  9. I have been informed numerous times that the "lurching" problem only exists in the Mark 2, the Mark 1 and from the 350 onwards it's fine. I have the Mark2 and have this problem :tsktsk:

There is a software upgrade that will correct about 90% of the 'lurching' problem. Mine was done about 6 months ago, so I know this for sure.

Where did you get the software upgrade done ? I assume a Lexus dealer. Did they do it free of charge ?

  10. I really don't see a problem with buying and selling cars on say eBay or privately. You really have o follow some very basic simple rules and be confident in handling people.

The basic golden rule has to be, that you do not release the car until you have cleared funds in your account. Insist on a CHAPS or direct bank to bank deposi of the monies from the Purchaser...its simple, easy and cost effective. Above all its in real time. No funds = no car.

Now if you get greedy and cut corners then go but with the rgace of ***...as you will leave yourself open for fraud.

Keep it simple, stick to the basics and you'll do jsut fine. Although now perhaps isn't a good time to be selling this type of vehicle as there seems to be a levle of panic about rising costs etc. for vehicles. Personally, great from a Buyers POV.

Yours looks like a lovely motor. If you stick it up I'm sure it'll sell because when we were looking to buyone in Feb this year - we looked through the Forum ehre and culdn't find one! Good luck with your sale :)

Have you tried www.wewillbuyyourcar.com all you have to do is put in your details and condition of your car and it gives you a price straight away. If you proceed, they will collect the car from you and payment is monitored and done by HSBC. It costs nothing, give it a try !!

  11. You just put the new dvd in and wait for the update screen to finish and thats it.

I got mine from that lexus-europe site for £110, took two days to arrive:

    http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/

I had the 2001 DVD and upgraded to 2006-07 - its miles better, with all the latest roads and loads more POI's.

Thanks for that :D . Did your upgrade DVD change any functions or cosmetics to the options on screen, or was it just the same, except for the updated data of course !!

    Cheers

  12. Hi

Has anyone had the new style RX300 converted to LPG, i have seen people with the MkI have had it done but wondered if anyone with the MkII had, if so what has been your experience.

    Jon

I have not had it done, but I did mention it to my Lexus dealer and he said that my extended warranty would become invalid because Lexus say that it's not good for the RX 300. Of course, this could be just one dealers own personal view !! Just thought I would mention it.

  13. I have the chance to upgrade my sat Nav DVD, my current DVD is 2003-2004 V1 86271 - 24122 (70V312A) and the upgrade is 2005-2006 V1 86271 - 53030 (60V660E). I do not know what Lexus model this has come out of !!

Does anyone know if I would have a problem ? or is it just the case of popping it in and letting the DVD load and off I go ? :D

Or is that too simple ?

I assume if it is none compatible, it will just not load and I just have to put my old one back in.

I am also taking a chance, as I do not know if there is a big difference on the data between these two DVD's to make it worth while doing :excl:

  14. As part of the service your dealer should carry out a road test. If the lurching is happening regularly they should pick it up. Are you able to accompany any road test?

For info my 2003 RX has shown no signs of any such problems in the 3 months that I have owned it.

This time, for sure, I will be out there on the road test. Good luck with your RX 3003, let's hope you don't get this probelm. Thanks for the reply

  15. Hi,

Yes, I know, it's a old topic !! But my Rx300 SE 2003 is going in for it's 50k service (I have extended warranty) and I have informed the service dept that I am still unhappy with my "Intelligent Gearbox".

Last time I reported this, they said that there was nothing wrong !! I also got the gearbox oil changed to see if it made any difference (none at all).

I have informed the service dept that if "they" find nothing wrong with it this time, I want the Service Manager to explain to me in person what this "Intelligent Gearbox" is meant to do.

It has got to the point that when I have been at a roundabout and put my foot down, nothing happens, it borders on dangerous, as cars are heading towards me and I am waiting for the elastic band to unwind and get going !!

Any advice or tips which I can use to enforce this problem when I speak to them ?

  16. Could you send me his details? I need to get this sorted.

    Thanks

I have a Nokia car kit in my RX. Was installed by works phone suppliers T-Mobile.

Unfortunately been stuck with the same old promlem of not having it mute as the installer either didn't know how to mute through the stereo/sat nav or was too scared.

The speaker is well hidden though, the cradle is fine, albeit there is a very small gap in the facia where the cable goes through.

I had a Nokia car kit fitted in my 2003 RX by a guy which does them for Lexus Bracknell. I did it direct and saved a bundle. as far as I know, he is the only person who knows how to do this which does not mess the sta nav, it mutes the radio etc and comes through the speakers. So it can be done properly and he has been doing them for years for Lexus.

His name is Bob and his number is 07973 381313.

  18. Have had an RX300se nav for 18 months, experience not good to start with, but dealership responded with excellent service thereafter. Main issue is cost of fuel, around town, the proverbial 18-19mpg and at best on a run 25mpg. With a lot of my journeys around town working out expensive, plus Gordon Brown's contribution yesterday, a sign of things to come. Will no doubt only appreciate all the toys once its gone. (issues, 4 new alloys, broken adaptive headlight sensor, completely destroyed ECU, and a lurching gearbox. All items fixed without any quibble by local dealer who always offered a replacement car whilst off road. Worrying reliability though for car less than 2 years old.)

You say that you have had all your problems fixed !! does that include the "lurching gearbox" ? Lexus Bracknell have told me that there is nothing wrong with mine, but the lurching/hesitant gearbox is terrible.
