  1. Are Lexus dealers aware of this - is it a case of visiting a dealer and having the wheels replaced under the warranty?

I'm on my 4th Lexus within a year - i have had the lot:

    Replacement sat nav system

    Replacement front seat

    Various attempts to fix rattles

Then swithed to a 250 sport which had gearbox and smartkey problems

Then switched to a G.S which had dash rattle, front squeaky seat and centre console rattle

Finally returned to an IS 250 SEL on March 10th - initially o.k until the front seat had to have the creak removed, now the front alloys are cause of concern

I'm a patient bloke, but the above have really tested my loyalty with the brand

I think another visit to the dealer is in order .

  2. Had to reject my new GS due to two attempts to fix rattle all to no joy

That is a shame and must be so frustrating.

I tend to agree with Tudordoc, in that 'my dash' creak occurred in very cold weather.

I collected my car in January and noticed the creak from the passenger side during the following morning.

The creak seemed to last for approx 10 mins, i too considered returning the car immediately (especially after owning 2 rattling IS 250's since March 06).

I am going to monitor it during the forthcoming months.

I would really like to know the cause - is it something that is expanding or contracting?

    Is it a mechanical fixing?

Why is it prevalant in cold weather?

Why does it stop after the car has warmed up?

Slightly different issue - does anybody get annoyed by the noise, dare i say it 'creak' from the central armrest.

I enjoy driving in complete silence (where possible) just wondering if anybody has consulted their dealer about this.

  3. I previously posted my disapointment regarding a 'passenger dash rattle'.

It seems that the noise / creak only takes in very cold weather.

I collected the car from Lexus Norwich on 31st January, the drive home was smooth and quiet; however during this recent cold i noticed the creak from the passenger side that lasts for approx 10 mins then disappears.

I have aranged for a lexus dealer to try to ascertain the cause and provide a solution to the creak.

This morning the temperature has been between 9 - 10 degrees and there was no creaking at all.

I,m going to record the sound so i will at least be able to demonstrate to the dealer that i'm not losing it.

Is this just a characteristic during very cold weather?

Do i accept it and look forward to a creak free spring and summer.

I don't want to waste my own time, nor that of the dealer; i must admit that i am becoming obsessive and paranoid over any creak or rattle that i hear.

    Any thoughts

    P.S

The Sat Nav DVD disc i have is 2004 - 2005 Vers. 2

Has there been an upgrade, if so, does anybody know how much for an up to date disc.

    Thanks

  4. Try the US Forum as well.

As your creak is from a specific location & can be repeated the Technician's task is much easier using 4 "tools" @ his disposal i.e Lexus GB Knowledge Base,Dense Foam,Silicon spray & what mounting widgets need tweaking without resort to "Dash-Out" which can be avoided in most cases.

    Assume its not the screen?

    Tel :driving:

    Thanks Tel

I had a good look at the US Forums, sad to see how widespread it is.

The creak is from the glove box / upper dash area.

I don't think its from the dash / windscreen.

Any way its booked in for two days from 27th March at the dealer.

Will post details and and level of success in late March.

    Thanks for help

  5. Sadly the Gs can have similar problems to the IS but these can easily be remedied by the Dealers particularly if it is temperature related because it is usually the simple adjustment of a locating nut according to the Gs Forum Posts.

The IS is more refined than any Gs I have driven BUT you were so unfortunate with your IS's that my heart goes out to you.

My friend has just had a new A6 that also creaks in the cold &,to be fair to your Gs,these sustained low temps have not been with us for years .

    Tel :driving:

Tel thanks for the reply - i have put a search in but returned with a negative responce.

Do you have ant further details regarding the adjustment.

    Thanks

  6. I traded in my IS 250 Sport for an 05 GS 300 SEL on Wednesday 31st January, fantastic car ; however the dash on the passenger side, somewhere near the passenger vent creaks very loudly.

It has become more noticable first thing in the morning, especially over the last couple of very cold days.

The creaking noise stops after approx 15 mins, this is very annoying as i traded the IS on the basis of the creaks and notchy gearbox.

Has anybody had such a creak and more importantly has it been successfully resolved.

Any thoughts or coments would be most welcomed.

  7. Well now its the turn of the front passenger air vent to rattle and creak!! my daughters 4 year old Yaris is doing better than the IS The dealers must be making a fortune in warranty repairs on these cars!

    Anyone else had this one!

    Alan

Is case you guys think I am being difficult/ pathetic:

Merc class 4 years old went back for rattles=none

    BMW 320 d none

    Daughters Yaris =none

    Sons Citroen( yes citroen) one

    Lexus 4 cars lost count!

    alan

Thats why i got rid - on the 250 SEL (purchased in March 06) i had

    Complete sat nav system replaced

    Replacement seat base

    Rattles behin central air vents

    Rattles in b pillars

    Numerous rattles behind dash

On the 250 Sport ( purchased in September 06)

Problems with gears - often difficult to engage 2nd

    Creaking dash

Rattles from passenger side - difficult to pinpoint

The silver paint to the central consure began to wear off

I just became paranoid of any noise, which really became all consuming.

  8. In my opinion the GS is in a much higher league than the IS.

I already thought it was supposed to be ..... :duh: , hence the reason it costs alot more, don't forget the IS2XX is the Lexus entry model.

Think you find this is the case with other makes as well...

    Noel

I take your point, however i have owned two brand new Is 250's since September 2005 both costing over 30k from the showroom.

I don't agree that the IS is an 'entry model', which at over 30k is a very expensive entry model.

The ratles, creaking seats, clunky gearbox and general issues are well recorded.

In my opinion i had enough of the IS i wanted to stay with the brand so i went for an alternative, which i am very happy with.

Do yourself a favour and lose the .....:duh: this is just my opinion based upon some sorry experiences.

  9. maybe be in a higher league but i dont fancy your fuel bill....

Can't be much worse going from 2.5 to 3.0 I wouldn't have thought.

any way I hope you enjoy your car, I prefer the looks of the new GS to the IS but I just love the toys you get with the IS, I dont think you can get the full MM system in GS, am I right?

I agree there is an extra 500 cc - so it may be slightly more expensive.

Regarding MM - yes it does, it's an 06 GS 300 with SEL trim with the full MM system, mark levinson sound system, the works.

  10. Well enough is enough i have chopped in my IS 250 Sport (which was a replacement for a IS 250 SEL).

I'm now the proud owner of a GS 300 SEL and what a difference - no cheap looking silver coated trim, no more fighting the gearbox, no rattles from somewhere on the passenger side.

Basically i had enough of the niggles, to the point that i did'nt 'love' the car like i should.

The GS is so much more refined and smooth to drive, it also makes the interior trim of the 250 sport seem cheap.

I have driven the GS during the open days and it always impressed me; however i was taken more with the styling of the new IS and its aggressive stance.

That said the GS has slowly grown on me and i can honestly say that after 3 days of ownership i am confident that i have made the right move.

In my opinion the GS is in a much higher league than the IS.

  11. Hello all - i am a new Gold member.

I am the happy owner of a new 250 Sport, with mm package.

Unfortunately, this was not always the case, as in March this year i collected an IS 250 Auto, with mm.

After a very short handover i drove away with a smile that lasted minutes - the sat nav system did not work properly and could not track my test journey.

The next day the rattles started, the drivers seat creaked and groned.

I was assured that all would be well, so i splashed out on a set of 18 inch Hoshi's.

The car was new - it required a new sat nav system, the drivers seat was replaced and four separate attempts to resolve the rattles ended up with me saying enough is enough, it had to go.

I had the seat belt recall and the sat nav update but the rattle was intolerable.

So i plumped for an IS 250 Sport with mm, i returned the SEL to my local dealer with the Hoshi's attached (as i was told that they formed part of the deal) now i have a set of 17 sel wheels with tyres for sell in the gold section.

I collected the 250 sport in september and it is slowly loosening up, i miss the auto and leather but at least i have no rattles. I must of been unlucky and bought a lemon.
